World-renown mainboard and graphics card manufacturer, MSI, has attracted the attention of major worldwide media and power users since the launch of its Xtreme Speed P55 mainboard series. Not only does this series boast a total feature set and specs, but the Xtreme Speed P55 features many MSI-exclusive performance enhancing designs. The series has received wide media acclaim for its outstanding overclocking capabilities, especially the P55 series’ flagship product, the P55-GD65.

Featuring DrMOS, SuperPipe and OC Genie, this mainboard's overclocking capabilities are truly amazing. The Taiwan overclocker, Coolaler, was able to overclock the Intel Core i7 860 CPU (2.8GHz)to 5.39 GHz with MSI’s P55-GD80 mainboard, breaking the world record and pushing the processor 92% past its set frequency. This performance surpasses the competition, and beautifully demonstrates MSI's P55 series overclocking prowess.

The MSI P55-GD65 owes much of its outstanding overclocking ability to its equipped MSI-exclusive technologies, such as the one second auto-overclocking feature OC Genie, the SuperPipe cooling system that effectively drops the operating temperature by 50°C, and 1>4 phase total DrMOS power supply design. Other features include the real-time overclocking function Direct OC, BIOS update and backup feature M-Flash, Power eSATA that acts as both a power source and an eSATA port, etc. These features coupled with the mainboard's spec set and performance make the MSI P55-GD65 the hottest P55 product around.

  • newegg Intel P55 Express Chipset for Intel LGA 1156 CPU Based on the Intel P55 Express chipset, the MSI P55-GD65 Intel motherboard supports Intel's latest LGA 1156 processors including the Intel Core i7 and Core i5 processors.
  • newegg Superb Overclocking Performance The MSI P55-GD65 Intel motherboard combines three unique technologies to provide superb overclocking performance: OC Genie – Auto OC to boost performance in 1 second; SuperPipe – advanced 8mm copper heatpipe for the most effective cooling; DrMOS –3-in-1 chip to provide a stable power supply and high overclocking capability.
  • newegg Scalable DDR3 Memory Four 240-pin DIMM sockets support up to 16GB of unbuffered DDR3 memory at speeds of up to 2133MHz (through overclocking), ensuring ample capacity for any application.
  • newegg NVIDIA SLI & ATI CrossFire Multi-GPU Technology Support With the fabulous compatibility, the MSI P55-GD65 Intel motherboard supports NVIDIA SLI and ATI CrossFire Multi-GPU technologies, enabling two or more discrete graphics processors to work together for boosted system performance and breakthrough gaming experience.
  • newegg Dual Gigabit LAN The integrated dual Gigabit LAN design allows a PC to serve as a network gateway for managing traffic between two separate networks. Dual Gigabit LAN means rapid data transfers from WAN to LAN without any added arbitration or latency.
  • newegg SATA II with RAID Support The second generation SATA interface delivers up to 300MB/sec transfer speed, doubling that of the first generation Serial ATA. The on-board seven SATA II ports support RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 for better performance, enhanced data security, and flexible capacity upgrades.

4 out of 5 eggsMSI P55-GD65

Pros: Price was good at the time I purchased it.
Over Clocking the processor is a snap, first one I had that you could OC on the fly.
Lots of options.
4 memory slots [but see cons & other thoughts]
Although it only came with a 1 year warranty, it was ranked #1 on about every tech site I went to before I purchased it.

Cons: Holds 16gb memory but when the board is working right, it only shows 15 gig's.
Common problem with this board is if you have 4-4gb memory modules, it only shows 7.99gb usable memory
Same if you have 2-4gb modules, it reads 3.99gb usable.

Other Thoughts: I haven't got into the BIOS yet to mess with the usable memory but I believe you have to manually setup the memory instead of setting it at "Auto". According to the manufactures website forum, that's the advice given to people who have the usable memory issue which sucks since this board was like $350 & with all the options that come built into the board like over clocking the cpu while it's running you'd think that by now they would have had a BIOS update to correct the memory issue.
I built this system & gave it to my grandson for gaming & just purchased a better graphic's card a couple weeks ago. After I found out that it was giving the BSOD, I was about to RMA the graphic card but figured I'd try pulling 2 of the 4 sticks of memory which fixed the BSOD & rebooting 3 times before it would boot into the operating system.

I told my grandson that it's easy to use a computer [I taught him how to use one when he was 4 years old] Now he needs to know how to read the manual because this motherboard is loaded with options but in order to get the most out of it, you have to understand the BIOS & what you need to do with the settings to make this board sing....
You can still find these boards refurbished so if you have a older processor & want to set it into a board, this model is pretty good. With that said, just try using all 4 memory slots to see if it's working correctly but if it doesn't show all the memory & you've done everything that the tech support says to try with no luck then rma the board because the board could be bad.

4 out of 5 eggsOC and Setup is somewhat hard

Pros: The dual Gigabit Lans
Cost
Features

Cons: Features- Floppy drive and PATA connectors. For a fairly recent board why does it need those. Almost every new drive is SATA, USB, or Firewire now.

OC-Genie isn't perfect and the first turn on you don't know if its enabled until after windows won't install.

Other Thoughts: The board is a little hard to work with in an Antec 900.

5 out of 5 eggsGood board so far

Pros: Very slick looking board with many nice features. Posted right out of the box. The "Overclock Genie" is a very nice tool for people who aren't very sure about overclocking there processor safely. I would recommend this board to anyone.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: What can I say, MSI is on a roll lately with superb hardware. The best mid-high end MoBo for the 1156 socket. I've disabled most of the features that come with the 1156 socket CPUs and the GD65 mother board but I can assure you that they work as intended.

Cons: None that I can think of. If you do find a con there is usually a way to fix it in bios (bright Mobo LEDs)

5 out of 5 eggsA..mazing

Pros: I went away from MSI for a while and now I am wondering why I ever did it. This is one of the easiest motherboards to install. I hate plugging in LEDs but MSI fixed that when they gave you a small connecter so that you can plug them in all at once. No more holding my breath and trying to install LEDs or praying that I got them right.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Excellent board. Installed a I5-750 processor, an MSI N460 GTX Vid, and 4 ea DDR3 10600U Non-ECC Samsung 4GB 2Rx8 1333. Win 7 pro 64 works perfect.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: Stays cool.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY THIS MOTHERBOARD

Pros: nothing good about a mobo that doesn't work

Cons: doesn't work

Other Thoughts: I had one of these motherboards and it would randomly crashed. After waiting 3 weeks for them to replace the motherboard I installed the replacement and guess what? It didn't work.

After searching the net it seems that I am not the only one with this problem. Other people have similar problems and there are even other people who received multiple broken motherboards.

If you are looking for a reliable motherboard buy another brand. Not happy at all with MSI

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The OC Genie had me worried as I'm a bit leery with new automated overclocking technologies, but it was able to find the perfect settings for a stable, fast overclock. The board is obviously a higher quality wafer as it's thicker than most I've seen. The layout is really thought out with regards to real-estate and placement of I/O devices.

Cons: Getting the SATA connectors seated firmly in for my DVD drives was a bit tricky as I tried to seat them after I put the mobo in my case (should have inserted them before installing the tray), but doable with some proper cable management.

Other Thoughts: Great value for the money. MSI has always had a solid product and this motherboard is no exception. I was able to update the BIOS, overclock my system and install everything very easily. Newegg support was able to help me with my shipping concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.

5 out of 5 eggsStable P55 Core i5 Mobo

Pros: This board has been in my system for a year now and is in my view a awesome stable motherboard for the Core i5 series of CPUs and i7 Series that use the 1156 socket. It has plenty of USB and SATA ports and is capable of 16Gb of DDR3....Awesome. This board also supports both ATI Crossfire and Nvidia SLI which is a huge bonus because you are not locked into a graphics technology. You can use either type. I've also been running Windows 7 x64 non stop since I bought and built this system a year ago.

Cons: None works great. Minor gripe is no USB 3.0 support but this board has a sister board that has USB 3.0

2 out of 5 eggsTripping out of the starting block.

Pros: -Good looking.
-Easy as pie to mount and fit.
-The features look nice in the manual.
-Good price.

Cons: Went to give my new build its first boot (i5 quad/4gb DDR3/Palit GTS 450) and it keeps rapidly toggling power to the whole system. Called tech support and they said it was either the PSU or the board (The 800W PSU was new as well) so I tried a brand new 400W PSU as well with only the board connected and it still just sits there toggling power. My case is not huge, nothing pops out easily and I'm not looking forward to the 1-2 week wait to try again.

Hopefully one of their techies sees this and can give me a second opinion, TS is closed for the night otherwise I would've called back.

Other Thoughts: This is my first build from 100% scratch and all-new parts. It is entirely possible I'm missing something, but if I can't even get it to run as a lone MB and PSU sitting on my desk I doubt there's a realistic fix.
