5 out of 5 eggsMSI - Still rockin on 4th year.

Pros: this has actually been one of the most if not the most reliable rock steady boards ever without a hint so far of showing degradation. i have used winxp, win7, ubuntu, kde, and mint. many of the different flavors of linux and always the board was good with them.

Cons: its too bad there are so many people that are unhappy with this board.

Other Thoughts: i really do think that alot of problems people have with motherboards is using cheap power supplies. i have had many mb's with low ratings according to custumer reviews but mine have functioned great.

1 out of 5 eggsRMa'd replacement dead in less than a week!

Pros: NONE!!

Cons: PLENTY!!

MSI!!

QUALITY CONTROL INVOLVING repairing or replacing motherboards!!!

Other Thoughts: Guess what MSI, this board mysteriously died today. no warnings...and the power supply wasn't even plugged into anything...period..It worked perfectly for one measley week!

If you're reading this MSI..I have already left a message for " rene" and you have my shipping address, email address, phone number and have 3 weeks from tomorrow 3-20-2013 for me to receive from you all a BRAND NEW am3+ socket motherboard...

That is the LEAST you can do for me considering the hassles I have been through with communication before the sale, after the sale, and this epic FAILURE of an RMA process.

This board was to go to a customer of mine's pc. He decide to change his mind about buying from me THANKS TO YOU MSI!

I am fed up. Can you tell?

This is not up for discussion or debate

NEW AM3+ motherboard....in 3 weeks from tomorrow..or I contact the better business bureau! No customer should have to deal with two dead motherboards that he did nothing wrong to for them to die mysteriously.

Apparently Q C is not in MSI'S vocabulary.

Rene...get me the new am3+ board or I contact the b b b again you already have all my information you need.

Don't waste my time trying to lie to me or talk me into another used/refurbished board because it's obvious you all don't know how to repair a motherboard..let alone quick accurate honest communication.

New am3+ motherboard...3 weeks..Or else I contact b b b

1 out of 5 eggsFailed completely @under 2 years

Pros: Basic functions worked.

Using 1090t 6 core phenom amd cpu at 3.6ghz then went back to 3.2ghz stock, no voltage adjustments, 1:4 ram ratio with kingston hyper x ddr 3 1600mhz at that speed with all auto other settings

Cons: MSI RMA "LACKOF" service and communication!
MSI CALL CENTER staff!
MSI ...PERIOD! I'm going Asus or Asrock, gigabyte or others from now on.

No real overclocking stability beyond 3.6ghz regardless of the settings I tried ( NO HELP from MSI ..their response was and I quote " sorry you're own your own even those the oc switch is something we put on the board and not something that you conjured up" ).

Board mysteriously died for NO REASON. ( no electrical storm, and this was AFTER I went back to stock settings in all bios settings for precisely 9 months straight until late february when the board died.

My k8n neo platinum motherboard using my clawhammer 2.4ghz amd cpu is STILL running like a champ to this day..

Seems msi's q.c. has tanked and they don't care if customers suffer.

Other Thoughts: Nothing else in my home had an electrical issue either. My psu powering this board was plugged into a monster brand power strip that i have been using for over 4 years issue free and NO..I have nothign else but pc, monitor and pc speaker system plugged into this power strip.

Had a professional electrician test how " clean" the electricity was coming from the outlet I have kept this power strip connected to and it was just fine.

as instructed by " jOhn" I put the motherboard on it's cardboard box, plugged in only cpu power, 24pin power, cpu works in another am3 board i have so it's not the problem. Did the paper clip test with just psu powering fan...did it again with it powering my big video card, all four blu ray burners, all case fans .worked easily. motherboard is the problem. John seems to be the ONLY rep I can ever get at MSI's HORRIBLE and lack there of customer service and tech support line 626 271 1004 in Walnut California WHEN I can actually get someone..otherwise I'm put on a silent hold and hung up on or " bumped" ( I"ve worked call centers for years. i know how this idiotcracy works. ) until I get someone's voice mail box..leaving a message only to NEVER get a call back. " RENEA I'M TALKING TO YOU..I left you a voice message just minutes ago expressing how disappointed in MSI that I am and I'm ready to contact the BBB!

YOU, MSI, NEED TO CONTACT ME WITH A TRACKING NUMBER TO MY REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT ( whichever it is since you all DON'T communicate jack to me your customer for over 10 years). I can't even find out where the #$% my package is now let alone IF it's even been repaired, replaced..or what i'll be guessing on NOTHING done as other's have experienced from MSI' incompetent horrible tech support

MSI CONTACT ME NOW!! ASAP!! THIS IS NOT A JOKE AND I AM NOT AMUSED at this poor excuse of communication from you all with a customer of 10 years and more than one thousand dollars of purchases motherboards- worth!

AND DON'T!! ASK ME , RENEA" FOR MY RMA AND SHIPPING ADDRESS INFORMATION..BECAUSE I'VE GIVEN YOU ALL THAT INFORMATION THROUGH THE RMA PROCESS " And' multiple times via the voice messages i've been leaving you all countless times TODAY and march 8 2013 when you shipped it using ups

UPS tells me I must have a reference number or tracking number to find this package..

I MUST GET THAT FROM YOU...MSI!! this is common sense!

CONTACT ME NOW RENEA!!

5 out of 5 eggsStill kicking

Pros: Have had this board in my father's build since January 2010 and it's still going strong, with no "real" issues to report. Onboard video still works, though it's terribly outdated. Going to throw in a Radeon 6750 or low end 7xxx card to bring it more up to date.

Cons: RAID failed after several months. We thought it was a bad HDD, but the MOBO just wasn't stable in RAID.

3 out of 5 eggsDead

Pros: Worked pretty good while it lasted.

Cons: Unlocker was never stable with my 3-core Rana. Lasted 2 years, 5 months. It's now dead as a doornail.

Other Thoughts: Can't RMA, it had a 1 year warranty. My last MSI board (from 2003) is still chugging along with an old P4 in it. I guess they don't make them like they used to. Replacing with an Asus.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Leroy,

We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with this motherboard. However, our boards do carry a limited 3-year warranty. Please email me directly at usreview@msi.com with your motherboard's serial number so we can assist you further.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Have not had any issues with this mobo. It unlocked my Phenom II x3 720 BE... but it was not stable. Easy over-clocking works great too. I like that it has HDMI onboard, didn't have to buy a separate card to watch HD video

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: have had it since March 2010

5 out of 5 eggsGreat MB

Pros: Have used it for 9 months now. Works great with no issues. Put in 4 gigs of the fastest DDR3 RAM it supports. Makes for a great speedy system, mainly used for software development.

Cons: None.

2 out of 5 eggsI love this board, when it is working. Had to RMA 2 times SO FAR.

Pros: This board is a great HTPC board which is how I am using and it was less expensive than the Gigabyte that I should have gotten.

Cons: I got a good deal on it but have since paid to RMA TWICE! The RMA process is easy and pretty fast but having to pay shipping 2 times makes this motherboard essentially cost more than a better (Gigabyte) motherboard. You'd think they would care that they sent me a bad board after I already had a bad first one but nope.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to like this board but since it keeps breaking I would avoid it.

5 out of 5 eggssolid value ALMOST Everything works well

Pros: Had this since September and still going strong.
M-Flash=fairly easy to back up and update bios, Use 1 usb for backup & 2nd usb for bios update( you DONT have to download any special usb formatting tool. Make sure usb drive you're using has no bad sectors or issues), Southbridge chipset never gets very warm at all, all SATA ports and onboard physical features work first time and still work with no issues still today, board has no problem accepting AHCI mode" after performering tweak from valid internet instructions in windows 7 registry". ddr3 1600mhz settings work perfectly at 1:4 dram ratio settings with or without setting dram voltage at 1.63, 1.67 or "auto" voltage. YES YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY SET THIS! THIS IS "NORMAL" in all of today's boards for 1600mhz settings and faster. please get over it all you whiners!

Cons: 1. Maybe I'm missing very simple but I can't seem to figure exactly how to make the 4-phase system change how it uses power. It always shows 4 blue led lights on the mobo itself.
2. MSI'S SLOW and PITIFUL SUPPORT! They were once ( back in 2004 to 2007)quick & polite responders to any and all questions/inquiries. Took them over a week just to acknowledge my email question about how to enable ahci mode after a win 7 clean install. then after waiting additional 2 weeks, I emailed them again asking " hey..anyone home? i didn't think this was a difficult issue for MSI. If you don't know to help me then it's ok BUT LET ME KNOW SOMETHING AND DONT JUST LEAVE ME IN THE DARK!" then i get a response email 4 business days later " we apologize blah blah. We don't use the auto-reply email system". Um k. Well here's a thought MSI If you are SHORT on cs staff. HOW ABOUT letting me know ahead of time so I can consider that. I can't read ya mind. I'm the customer & that is not my responsibility.

Other Thoughts: Never got the help I needed on that issue. I figured it out on my own from googling it. I just hope this board lasts as long as my k9a2 platinum (bought 2008) and the k8n neo platinum (bought 2004). Both are still running fine.

2 out of 5 eggsunreliable

Pros: Good price. Nice onboard GPU/HDMI for an HTPC setup. I bought two of these. The one that's working has been working pretty well.

Cons: I bought two of these and the second board was bad. I had it for about 4 months during which time it was extremely unreliable, so I RMAed w/ MSI. It was relatively painless to RMA, but they just sent me someone elses bad board with bent jumper pins, gunk-covered back panel, and a northbridge heatsink that's halfway detached. Sure enough, this one won't even boot. After all of this, they just expect me to RMA the board again and see if I can get lucky. I do tech support, and that is HORRIBLE service. Something else needs to be done on their part. They need to do the right thing and send me a new board, not another reject that some flunky ran through a couple of tests and verified as working.

Other Thoughts: My opinion of MSI has forever been changed. I always viewed them as a more reputable brand, but I've never had this many issues with even the "bargain" brands like Foxconn, Jetway, and Biostar. In fact, I can count on one hand the number of times I've gotten a dead board(I've probably built about 1,000 systems both at work and at home), yet MSI just sent me two bad boards in a row! Like I said before, I'll probably stay away from MSI next time around. I may even sell these boards and get something I know won't break on me again in a few months. These boards were for HTPC builds. Because of MSIs poor products and service, my big screen TV has been unusable for about 4 months.

BTW, none of this is Newegg's fault. They've been rock solid as usual.
