3 out of 5 eggsReview #2

Pros: Good board, has a lot of features such as crossfire/sli support. Nice color scheme (except for the stupid post/power lights). Cpu overclocked nicely for me. I had the voltage to auto. Got i7-930 up to about 4.0ghz on a decent voltage.

Cons: The post/power leds are really, really bright and ruin the color scheme of my HAF X. One of the annoying lights is green and the other blue so even if you wanteda blue scheme, then the stupid green can still be seen! urghh. Runs extremely hot! At first, my temps were not bad. Then, I added a 5970 for trifire with a 5850 and the stupid board is running 85C idle and 95C load (very close to its 100C limit). I hope it is not throtteling down the speeds or anything. Also, my 5970 seems to not overclock well with it; any voltage increase causes it to artifact (may not be the board, but I think it is since I am running a 1000W kingwin psu). Also, it would be better if the fourth pci-e 2.0 would be x8 and throttle the second down to x8 when populated.

Other Thoughts: Not a terrible board but the temps are just outrages! I may try to use some new thermal grease on the board to lower temps and maybe a spot fan but it is really frustrating that I have to do the extra work because it wasn't done right the first time! Just gonna deal with this board until I can afford to upgrade to a decent board like Rampage or Classified or until new chipsets come out. Annoying to be stuck with a somewhat faulty/broken component :(

My system:
i7-930 @ 4.0 Ghz.
Noctua NH-D14
Kingwin 1000w PSU
MSI X-58 PRO-E MOBO
6GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3 1600
HAF X
Win7 Home Pro
Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB HD
Sapphire 5970 (825/1175; no voltage increase because of my artifacting problem) and XFX ATI Radeon 5850 (775/1125) in trifire

4 out of 5 eggsGood board, but QC seems lacking

Pros: 7 slots, USB3, 7 internal SATA, 1 eSATA. Not many boards offer all of that. The top slot is usable with most cards as they will clear the X58 heat sink.

Efficient multi-phase power supply (can be overridden for overclocking). 30W lower Idle than my stock Q6600/780i with a i7930.

Cons: Poor X58 cooling. Stock was 80C+ at idle. Replaced with Arctic Silver and put a 40mm Scythe fan on it and it'll stay around 60C idle. This is a hot chip, and is rated to 100C...but throttles down when it gets hot. The X58 uses 25W and good cooling is needed. ICH10 uses 4.8W max and doesn't need a heatpipe.

Bad QC. 1 board bad as 2/3 memory channels worked, then the board stopped posting. Many others are getting defective boards, too.

Only 1 of the USB3 slots seems to work. Also, the PCI-E slot is x1 only, so it doesn't have enough bandwidth for full USB3 (though I don't think it'll ever be fully used by a HDD)...you really need a x4 card (many out there). The USB3 was more of a bonus as this was cheaper than the pro-e without it (same board). I will probably get the Asus US36 card eventually. I have no USB3 devices at the time.

Other Thoughts: If the board didn't have QC issues, I would give 5 eggs for the price. That was $12 shipping and 2 weeks. It does seem to be a pattern with this board that the pro-e didn't have.

I want to overclock, but realize a less expensive board is going to limit it. I really only care to go up a little on stock voltage.

This board has plenty of room for a CPU cooler. I run a Coolermaster 212 and it clears everything with no issue.

1 out of 5 eggsTouchy board

Pros: Not sure yet

Cons: Very touchy board. I should have spent the money $35.00 it has already cost me for shipping charges on a better board.

Other Thoughts: Very touchy board, RMA'ed 2 boards due to not posting, due to the time it took for first RMA I could not RMA the third board after it failed. Third board posted and was running great for 2 days, then I decided I would try the easy OC switch and as before after plugging the power supply back in nothing worked. I have sent this board to MSI we will see what happens.

1 out of 5 eggsSecond RMA, Do not buy this product!

Pros: None.

Cons: I had to send the first board back because it couldn't POST. I received a replacement from MSI, but low-and-behold, it couldn't POST either. Two bad mobos in a row is downright terrible. I'm guessing they're selling a bad batch somewhere. Gonna RMA it again.

Other Thoughts: After reading several forum posts of users with similar problems, I don't t hink I'll ever purchase another product made by this company again. Their quality control standards leave much to be desired. I wouldn't be surprised to discover that the replacement board is actually the same board.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

Pros: It seems like a great board for the price. But the verdict is still out until I receive a functioning unit from MSI.

Cons: The board was dead on arrival when I did a breadboard test. No post, no beeping, nothing.

3 out of 5 eggsDead

Pros: I won't know until I receive one that's functioning. Seems like a great board for the price, but the verdict is still out as far as my situation.

Cons: I discovered that the board was dead on arrival while doing a breadboard test. No post, no beeping, nothing. Waiting on RMA at the time of this typing.

5 out of 5 eggsGets the job done!

Pros: Gets the job done, fast, like that it has 2 pci slots running at x16, what else can I say about it?

Cons: Wish the PCI slots were not so close together because it would be a tight fit for a second or third GPU.

Other Thoughts: My System:
i7-930 @ 4.0 Ghz.
Noctua NH-D14
Kingwin 1000w PSU
MSI X-58 PRO-E MOBO
4GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3 1600
Azza Orion 202 Midtower (I know this case is bad and I am upgrading to a HAF X next week)
Win7 Home Pro
Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB HD
XFX ATI Radeon 5850

5 out of 5 eggsCorrection

Pros: The previous 1 egg review was mine. The issue was not the motherboard, but a garbage PSU. Jumped the gun, the board is fine.

Cons: none
