5 out of 5 eggsThe most reliable motherboard

Pros: So reliable after a year running great.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Runs my Samsung SSD perfectly and Win 7 64 bit without a problem. I have 2 of these both are awesome with AMD 970 CPU's.

1 out of 5 eggsBIOS issues and poor support

Pros: I would say the board is full featured. The OC dial is nice, as well as easy power option for testing scenarios. Was an amazing board, sometimes.

Cons: FIrst call was about a year into ownership. I was recieving blue screens across a number of games and narrowed it down to the motherboard after switching out parts one by one. The BIOS was clearly incompatable. Called MSI, they referred me to the developer of the game. Narrowed it down again, not game issue BIOS issue, call again, denied, third call got to someone helpful and recieved a custom BIOS. The msi BIOS that came with it hardly supported FX series processors, though they advertise it.

Second issue came about 2 years into owning the MB that has a three year warranty. Not posting, Tested all parts again, no post. CPU socket has failed, call in, RMA is only option. Okay thats fine. I am expected to pay for all shipping. so a failing part, within warranty, will cost you all shipping, handling and insuring the package delivery. Perhapes this is "standard" though I've only seen it with MSI, anyone else sends a box.

Other Thoughts: Okay board, bad for FX series processors, MSI support is a terrible experience andd shows a lack of concern for customers. very cold, no empathy.

1 out of 5 eggsMSI not so good...

Pros: Board originally worked very well, aside from randomly freezing when trying to enter BIOS.

Cons: Board died during a BIOS flash using MSI Live Update tool. I had to have the 1.15 BIOS to install my new FX 8350 CPU. RMA'd the board, received a refurbished one a few weeks later.

The refurbished board had the 1.15 BIOS on it, the 8350 would not post at all, although my old PII x4 955BE would fire up just fine. I updated to the MSI 1.16 beta BIOS and still had the same issues.

I have since RMA'd the CPU and am awaiting a new one, as I don't have another board that supports this CPU to verify whether the CPU works or not.

I have also discovered that on this refurb'd board, the analog audio ports on the back panel do not work. I've tested with 3 different sets of speakers. My USB headphones and my monitor plugged up with HDMI both have working audio, the analog ports just do not work.

Other Thoughts: When first contacting MSI about my board being dead, the support agent could only say 2 words. "Clear CMOS". He just kept saying that over and over. Eventually he said to go to MSI website and request RMA. I've thus far had nothing but headaches with the refurb'd board they sent me, and cannot get any help from MSI. You may want to steer clear of MSI products!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat board, need BIOS improvement for Vishera!

Pros: Lots of PCIe, support USB 3.0, support 32GB, compatible with AM3+ processor, SATA 6 and whatnot.

Cons: Oddies I got between BIOS 1.14 and 1.15:
History:
I have 2 monitors and 2 video cards (Monitor A Video 1 / Monitor B Video 2)

Using Phenom II 1100T:
BIOS 1.14: I can POST on Monitor A Video 1 all the time
BIOS 1.15: I can POST on Monitor B Video 2 all the time

Question: Why upgrading the BIOS makes this change?

Using FX 8350:
BIOS 1.14: Not supported
BIOS 1.15: I can POST on Monitor A Video 1 all the time

Really MSI?

Other Thoughts: After I upgraded to latest 1.15 BIOS I upgraded my 1100T to a FX 8350. I booted up in fail safe configuration in the BIOS and everything was fine until I run Prime95 or play a game: computer was either crashing or restarting.

After troubleshooting I discovered that when set to automatic, the NB/CPU ratio gets way off on this board. Basically, the 8350 (and probably all the Vishera CPU) gets crazy changing frequency and voltage on behalf of a greener future. Using Hardware monitor, I have seen the NB going up to 2900MHz to accommodate the CPU speed. Knowing for a fact that I couldn't OC the NB very well (2200 was the max for me), I decided to lock it up at 2000 (200x10 multiplicator) and it worked!

Since, my memory is set back to 1600 (1/4), my NB/CPU is set to 2000 (I'm sure I can go a bit higher but don't care) and everything is back to normal. Prime95 runs for hours with no issues and I can finally play my games!

Hope this helps if you run into the same issue.

MSI please fix your BIOS!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board owned it for 2 years

Pros: This board is great I love it. There bios is easy to use and can handle so many stress tests I accidentally shorted it out so many times when I first got it because It was my first board I ever had when I made my PC and I've had absolutely no problems with it what so ever except for my error trying to install it it thought it was defective but it wasn't and once I got it running I couldn't believe how fast it was. I also love the dual an ports it's able to handle double the data transfer from my PC to the internet especially when I host game servers my players experience zero lag but that probably because if my internet speeds too. Every time one of my friends is interested in a PC I. Always recommend this board I love it.

Cons: it can hold only 16 GB of ram max. Which already max out all my ram because of my game servers I host and all the multi tasking I do with my computer at the same time. Also another con I found is that the board is discontinued I was going to buy this for a friend I can't buy it now and I've tried to find a better board that is as good as this but better and I can't find one. I gave this board 5 because it deserves to be moved up in the rank because this board deserves to be on the top of the list. And a way for MSI to recontinue this great legend that probably won't ever come back

2 out of 5 eggsAvoid if using for AM3+ processor

Pros: When it worked, it worked well. Not fantastic, but good enough.

Cons: Newegg recommended this board along with an 8-core AM3+ processor. Zambezi 3.1 GHZ. It took me months to get everything to work, which included flashing the BIOS to an updated version with a USB card. I only have average tech knowledge so doing this took some intuition. I can't imagine a novice being able to do the stuff I had to do to get it to work.

At first I thought it was Windows giving me the problem, and I installed it like 20 times. It would always randomly reset at certain points. Also, it would give me FF error right off the bat a lot and I would have to reseat the memory and mess around with it a little, then all the sudden it works.

Finally when I updated the BIOS it let me install windows, and I had only a few problems from there on. During the time it worked I had some harddrive issues where it would suddenly turn off about 20 minutes into use. Fixed that.

Then after it working for about a year, where I played a game with just a few random shut downs, I downloaded a new game and tried to play it. Within 5 minutes it shut off. Then again the same. And again. I tried to fix it and it started to just shut down during startup. Went crazy again and tried to fix it, after a few days of just reseating everything and trying it magically works again?!

I am typing this review now and I am just waiting for it to shut down again. Not really what you want when you spend $1400 on a brand new computer.

I see it is discontinued so luckily no one else can buy this. I will now avoid MSI because of this experience. I found there Live Update thing to be difficult to use. Just an overall terrible experience.

Other Thoughts: Avoid this, and if you have it, go buy another MB from a different manufacturer. I keep seeing MSI sending these responses to peoples messages telling them to contact them and blah blah.... a waste of time. Just AVOID!!!!

Pros: The board it great ive had no problems with it at all i must have been lucky plus it gives off alot of heat so in the winter my room is warm :)

2 out of 5 eggsBig Mistake

Pros: none

Cons: Had immediate issues with this board, should have scrapped it from the very beginning

Other Thoughts: Arrived and had issues with the memory sockets from the very begining, ended up only being able to use 3 of the 4 slots. Then 2 of the sata sockets acted up as well I should have taken that as an omen and sent it back. Now just over a year later the MOBO is failing. No more MSI for me.

3 out of 5 eggsmsi

Pros: quality of the product is fine

Cons: Their technical support is horrible - the agents are arrogant (not to mention they are stupid) and rude. Found the standard answer - it is someone else fault. After getting the regular runaround I found the answer myself. If they tell you to reinstall windows - don't belief them - I didn't and it saved me the giant nightmare of having to reinstall windows 7 and the upgrades.

5 out of 5 eggsFine board

Pros: Liked the seven SATA connections. Recognized everything I threw at it. Overclocked my Phenom II 1055 and OCZ3P1333LVAM4GK 4x2GBs to within a hair of 4.0GHz. I got it to 4 for a bit, but it was unstable. Good BIOS, but then I was using Windows and not configuring much.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I'm switching to Opterons, so won't be using MSI anymore.
