5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: Incredible motherboard when you have the correct power supply.
I was running an excellent power supply XFX 850 but it's not enough for this board.
I replaced it with a Seasonic 1050w runs like charm.

Cons: None ....just be ready to feed it plenty of power.

OC Genie not for me. Overclock in the bios.

Other Thoughts: I have 7 computers 2 intels 5 amd. The more power the Intel's get the better.

With 3 sata 6 SSD's this machine is almost instant no matter what you do. By the running running Intel Gulftown

1 out of 5 eggsWon't buy MSI again

Pros: Originally, I would have given this board 5 stars but things have gone downhill since originally buying this motherboard.

Cons: MSI RMA support is a joke. The motherboard originally worked fine and I had a raid 0 setup with 2 Western Digital RE4 hard drives and a third drive as backup. About 3 months later the third drive disappeared from BIOS and Windows, so, thinking I had a faulty drive I replaced it, then 3 months after that, the raid failed because the secondary drive was unrecognizable. So I went and bought new hard drives and for some reason was unable to get raid setup to work, so I just used one primary and a secondary. Then a few months after that, the backup drive disappeared again.
Well, what I eventually figured out, is that the motherboard sometimes decides to not recognize a drive but if I changed the cable to a new sata port, it would work again for a month or two.
So, I decide to contact them and after working through tech support they tell me I need to have the motherboard RMA'd so I requested one on-line and get an e-mail saying I have to send my board to them and wait 2 weeks. -more-

Other Thoughts: I decide to call their RMA number and get someone who tells me that RMA policy is not to cross-ship or send a new product, I have to send mine and be without a computer for 1 to 2 weeks AFTER they receive the board, and of course i'd have to wait for shipping to come back. On the phone with them I was basically told it wasn't their problem and that's their policy and too bad if i'm without my computer for up to 3 weeks.
I have never dealt with a company that works this way, when my Thermaltake power supply went out, they cross-shipped so I had a new power supply in 2 days.
I'm now out close to 600 dollars in replaced hard drives and a motherboard that doesn't work and too bad for me.

I will never buy another MSI product again.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board

Pros: The board has some good features and it works well.

Cons: The board itself is very thin and bends quite easily and it may have Military grade components but it doesn't have Military grade pcb. When putting the cpu cooler on the board started to bend and I was cioncerned aboult it working well but it turned out allright. The Overclock Genie is a joke and doesn't work , I pressed the button as directed by the instructions and the overclock failed and the bios was reset to default. Had to overclock by hand. The cpu used was an Intel 980x. I deducted one egg for the overclock Genie fail.

Other Thoughts: Overall it's a decent board just a little lacking in features.

5 out of 5 eggsBIG BANG

Pros: Nice board. Well thought out design. Everything is in its logical location. Running cool so far. Room to expand. I do recommend this board.

Cons: My only complaint is there isn't a plug on the board that accomidates the USB3 ports that came with my case. The USB3 on the back panel is all you get.

Other Thoughts: Glad I choose this one.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: good mother board lots of slots and expansion room good quality

Cons: BIOS is not at highest firmware on ship

Other Thoughts: I didnt pay attention and didnt realize that to get those ram speeds you would have to overclock - however I am happy with the unOCed speed. Also I had to flash my bios to the newest revision in order to pick up more than 2.99GB of ram

5 out of 5 eggsMSI Rocks

Pros: This was my first computer build since the budget build I did in 2006. I wanted the new build to last so I went with an I7 940 CPU and choose this motherboard. Built incredibly well, $60 rebate and Newegg had it on sale for -$25.

I'm not sorry. This is some motherboard. I was apprehensive because I was building a deluxe system for myself and spending what my wife considered "a lot". Took my time and when I finally powered the system up for the first time, it booted up without problems.

I love this MB!!

Cons: None that I've encountered. Oh, I do have one niggling complaint: The Antec case comes with an internal cable for the top mounted USB 3.0 ports. It's supposed to plug into the motherboard however there is no place to plug it in.

Other Thoughts: - Antec P280 case
- 12GB Mushkin enhanced "Blackline" DDR3 memory
- Cooler Master Hyper N520 CPU fan
- Plextor 64GB solid state drive.
- 320GB WD AV-GP WD3200AVVS hardrive
- Keytronic Designer-P2 full size PS2 Keyboard.
- Asus 430 GT video card. Not top of the line but pretty good for what I do.
- Corsair Professional Series 650w power supply. This is the modular type (highly recommended) and it has 7 year warranty.
- Plextor CD/DVD burner/player

I don't plan to overclock this board. Just wanted to built something that is super-quick and will last a long time.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your time or hard earned cash on this one

Pros: Runs two cards in SLI both at x16. OC'd my i7-950@4.2GHz.

Cons: If you like using the S3 sleep state ony your rig, pass this one up. When on any kind of OC, resuming from sleep changes the voltage on the memory causing an error and forcing you to reset BIOS. Really MSI?!? BIOS v1.6 is the latest which was released almost a year ago?!? This is known issue and its being ignored by the MSI staff apparently.

Other Thoughts: Should have stuck with Gigabyte or Asus.

5 out of 5 eggsSweet Board

Pros: The PCB is 5 layer and all the Caps, MOSFETS and such are true Military grade components. This is a very stable board. Over clocking features are off the wall crazy. In addition to being able to over clock, this board also has dual 8 pin (EPS) for providing enough power for the extreme over-clocker. An Intel Extreme edition can draw up to 480 watts and that's enough current to fry a lot of other motherboard circuit paths, hence the reason MSI provides the dual EPS. This motherboard also supports up to 16 phase power for the CPU!!!! Talk about stable!

Cons: The OC Genie is lame and the XMP profile doesn't work like it's supposed to. So, be prepared to put in your own timings and multipliers. Another con is the green power features. How Lame.... Trying to provide "energy savings" on a board designed for extreme over clocking is just stupid. In addition, my PC would go into a loop when I would reboot. I would go through the BIOS, then start again.... So I went into the BIOS and disable all the green features and keep all 16 phases at all times. Way more stable and not a problem since.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this board because of price. There was a $60.00 rebate when I purchased this board making it the best bargain for the X58 chipset. I love the layout of the board. There's 3 slot spacing if running crossfire so there's lot's of room for air flow. I am using 6 ATI HD 3870's (single slot). Don't try this for gaming because crossfire doesn't scale that well. I am using the 6 GPU's for distributed computing (folding@home) and this machine is just crunching away. Real sweet!

On other thoughts, I would like to say I hope everyone that reads the "bent pin" reviews ignore them. NewEgg or motherboard manufacturers doesn't mail out motherboards with bent pins. It's just something that doesn't happen. More than likely, people bent their own pins and tried to make NewEgg pay for their stupid fat finger mistakes.

If You're thinking of picking an X58, the BigBang X-power should be a board to consider if your wallet can handle it. MSI is a good manufacturer and NewEgg is great!

3 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Big board, beautiful, high quality, lots of room for expansion. more bells and whistles but for 300 dollars there should be alot of features.

Cons: RAM posts at 1066Mhz, I purchased GSkill Trident 6Gb @ 2000MHz, in order for it to run at that speed it must be overclocked............ well overclocking RAM on this motherboard is confusing, attempting to overclock my RAM resulted in board failure, had to call MSI tech support, tech support was wonderful, got MB up and running in time for MW3. However still running really expensive and fast RAM really slow, and I am not sure tech support new how to overclock the RAM. When I asked they suggested I contact GSkill.

The board would get 5 eggs if it wasn't for this. Would still buy this board over ASUS Rampage III.

Other Thoughts: Core I7 950
MSI Big Bang XPower
G Skill Trident 6GB 2000 MHz
Crucial C300 real SSD 120GB SATA III
WD Caviar Black 1TB, SATA III
MSI R6870
Corsair H50 cooler
Antec TPQ 1200
ThermalTake Xaser 6 Full Case
Cyborg RAT 7 mouse.
Thermaltake esports keyboard
