5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal

Pros: Excellent motherboard. Has lasted me quite a few years without any hiccups.

Bios is easy to understand and navigate.

Haven't had any problems except needing to upgrade. Well worth the price.

Thanks!

Cons: Is not Intel.

Other Thoughts: Yay!

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: *Cheap

Cons: *Buggy
*RAM slots are close to CPU

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a decent mobo if you are in a pinch, but I would recommend saving your pennies for better board. It is pretty buggy and core unlock is finicky at best. Granted core unlock is not a guarantied process but after 4 months of occasionally flipping the setting I finally got the core to unlock. Seems like a better motherboard should have been able to do it in a single try, not 30 times over 4 months. I have had a SATA port go dead on me, move the cable, that one die on me, and have the original port magically come back to life. Sometimes I get random USB problems. Also RAM slots are very close to the CPU, making it very difficult to install a decent sized CPU heatsink.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Unfortuntaely, core unlock is not guaranteed since the processor is the main factor here. You have to have the right processor with good quality in order to get unlock.
And depending by models, not all models have hidden cores.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks fine at first

Pros: Worked fine for the first two years. Fairly stable motherboard, nothing to really complain about. Got the job done.

Cons: All of a sudden it just stopped working. Everything will power up, but the motherboard won't start the BIOS process or provide power to any of the onboard interfaces (USB and ethernet don't seem to have power). Seems like it just randomly decided to die. Newegg said that there was a 3-year limited warranty on it, but I can't find anything about filing a claim on the manufacturer website, and the link to manufacturer support on the product page just gives me a 404.

Other Thoughts: I've honestly been very pleased with this motherboard. I'm just very disappointed that it died, and more disappointed with how difficult it is to get any warranty/service information from the manufacturer.

2 out of 5 eggsSlow death after 10 months of use

Pros: Out the box? Worked great, easy set up, nice layout.

Cons: Stability problems seem to crop up after awhile with this model.

Other Thoughts: There is no reason for this mobo to be slowly dying on me after 10 months of lite use. I very rarely game more than a couple hours at a time a few days a week. Lately been BSOD like no tomorrow. Memory sticks are fine, hard drive is fine, video card is fine---very irritated! This is my first MSI board (I've been building my own rigs since 2000), and it will likely be my last.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsMy First build

Pros: I used this mobo for my first build over a year ago, and It still runs great. When it was available it had an amazing price. I did have some BSOD at some point, but that was due to some incompatible ram I was using. This thing has been a workhorse. With my setup I've been running games like Sleeping Dogs, Transformers Fall of Cybertron, and just about any other game on high to ultra settings. If
you want a budget built PC that will hold its own then you can't beat this mobo.

My rig
MSI 870-G45 mobo
AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE
Radeon HD 5770
Diamond Extreme 7.1 audio card
10gig Ballistix ram
750 watt PSU
Raidmax Tornado case

Cons: NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE!!! I planned on building more budget PC's for some family members using this mobo. Guess I better look somewhere else.

Other Thoughts: The blinking link can be annoying if you have a see thru case. My suggestion...put more lights in it!!!

1 out of 5 eggsOk while it lasted

Pros: It ran ok in the first 10 months, not many problems, no bsod's, stable.

Cons: Self destructed. Literally saw flames shoot out of it. Luckily, didn't damage anything else. However, after RMA with MSI, second board had a failed DIMM slot, so on my second RMA. Not happy....

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if they could maybe not make you pay for shipping, and only charge you if it wasn't their fault.

2 out of 5 eggsSlowly dying off

Pros: Super quick setup, was exactly what I needed when I bought it.

Cons: What I certainly didn't need when I bought it were blue screens left and right. After about 4 months, I noticed consistent blue screens and narrowed it down to my RAM. I thought it was a pair of bad chips, but I swapped my pair of chips from the slots recommended for single sets to the other sockets. Apparently this is a common problem with this board after viewing other reviews on this page. I had no more blue screens for about 10 more months. Now, my computer restarts randomly giving me a "Hyper-transport sync flood error" on boot, which numerous people claim are extremely common on MSI motherboards. This has been ongoing daily for about 2 months and no matter what fixes I try or which extra parts I substitute in, nothing fixes it, so once again I'm stuck with another unknown portion of my motherboard that refuses to work properly.

Other Thoughts: This certainly wasn't what I was looking for in a motherboard that boasts superior quality and reliability. I've had several people whose computers I've worked on have problems, and more often than not, it's due to an MSI motherboard. I was hoping the improved quality that this motherboard supposedly had may change my opinion of things, but unfortunately it still remains the same - I will not be purchasing MSI products in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
Hyper-transport sync flood error is usually a processor problem and you will need to contact AMD to get it replaced.
However, it can be caused by a defective board but it's rare, but if you are sure if it's the motherboard, then please kindly visit the URL below to set up a RMA with the following information.
