5 out of 5 eggsK8NGM2

Pros: Worked well right froom the start, installed Venice 3200 and retail fan which stays below 35C. Fan is very quiet. Quietest AMD computer I've ever built. Using 1GB Buffalo DDR stick, 160GB Samsung SATA2 HD and onboard video (it even has DVI). No quirks and Passmark score about 380 vs about 270 for older XP1700 with Radeon 9000 and ATA100 HD with 512MB DDR. I'm sure adding a PCIe video card will really let this set-up fly, but I just don't play 3D video games. I'll save my money for more memory.

Cons: Zip

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Reliable. Good features in BIOs. Overclocked my Athlon XP 4000+ from 2.4 to 2.8 Ghz without a problem (using two 512 Patriot 2.3.3.5 DDRs).

Cons: None so far, although the onboard video is about the same as the GeForce 5200 I had on my old machine, even with a much faster chip driving it. I'll be purchasing a card for it in a second...

Other Thoughts: Go for it, nice board.

5 out of 5 eggswhy this is better than FID

Pros: We use theses motherboards for our buisness class machine bescause they are STABLE. This motherboard is desined to last (15 month lifecycle) over standard (5 month)

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: the FID has firewire...which means instability.

Buy this mobo, its a great product and the moron that gave it a bad review should check and see that the boards LOOK the same but the drivers are NOT cross compatible. Moron

4 out of 5 eggsBeware BIOS flashing

Pros: Good features for HTPC, onboard video with DVI output, cheap.

Cons: Bios updater tool said I had version 1.10 and that was most recent, but MSI's website said 3.5 was available for my model, so I downloaded that and manually flashed it. DO NOT DO THIS. I had to RMA the board.

Other Thoughts: Be extremely careful when flashing BIOS. Listed BIOS updates may not work as advertised.

1 out of 5 eggsDON'T BUY THIS!!!!

Pros: Great board... great features... BUT... (see below)

Cons: This board is more expensive than the MSI K8NGM2-FID and is the EXACT same board (I now have both in my hands)... same revision of the board... same everything... EXCEPT that the FID has a bunch of extra features. The SI3114 RAID controller on the NBP is arbitrarily crippled to not allow RAID 0+1 or RAID 5 or JBOD... it only does RAID 0 or 1... which (updated a couple of days ago) MSI's website will confirm. Basically they lied and told everyone that the board did RAID 0+1 and RAID 5 but it doesn't. The FID also has a bunch of great extra outputs (digital audio, svideo, component video, etc.)

Other Thoughts: DON'T BUY THIS BOARD... buy the exact same, more functional, FID version instead. Trust me. I've been wrestling with this for weeks now. SOOOOOO frustrating.

4 out of 5 eggsMotherboard OK but NOT MSI Live update

Pros: I like the board and put an Opteron 165 and it works fine. I have been satisfied with several MSI boards (I ordered this by mistake, I wanted the FID version with firewire, but I can live without firewire)

Cons: The MSI live monitor offered me the wrong BIOS and used it without reading carefully. I can still boot, but can only edit BIOS by using a PCI video card. I expect this will be taken care of since I notified MSI and will load the correct BIOS again.

Other Thoughts: I don't expect stellar tech support or manuals that are grammatically correct, so I blame myself for jumping too quickly at a BIOS update...at least I can still use this motherboard and the BIOS issue will eventually be resolve.

5 out of 5 eggsHands down the best...

Pros: The only thing this board does not have is Firewire support... but who needs it. Installed in minutes with a XP 64 3000+ processor and 2 Gigs DDR 400 RAM. FAST, STABLE, PACKED with features. Im gonna build more systems with this board.

Cons: The only dissapointment I have with this board is its onboard video does not seem much more powerful than my old Geforce 4 MX and it still limits you to only 128 Megs of memory. I have 2 Gigs in the system and I would like to dedicate 256 but that option is not available. Other than that, this board is awesome for the money. Best bang for the buck.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if they gave you more than one Serial ATA cable but that was enough for me right now. My experience with NewEgg has usually been positive. This one was okay. Shipping seemed to take forever. Next time I will overnight or 2 day it with FedEx cause I hate UPS.

5 out of 5 eggsWho could ask for more?

Pros: Everything you need for a budget system all on the mobo. It has survived my use with flying colors and great stability. I especially like the firewall.

Cons: I've not had any luck with onboard video driver updates, and for gaming, the onboard video sucks. But then, who cares? That's what a real graphics card is for. Also the PC monitoring software that comes with it just plain sucks.

Other Thoughts: All in all it's been a better board than I expected it to be. So far I haven't had anything to really complain about. Make no mistake though, it's still a dinky budget board lacking high-end features like SLI, Firewire, any real expansion room, etc. And take my comments with a grain of salt as I've yet to test the RAID or the sound in anything other than a simple 2 speaker setup. Those upgrades come once I have money again.

4 out of 5 eggseh, ok

Pros: BIOS is nice and flashy. It does work great for me.

Cons: Northbridge heatsink is loosely attached. It also is tiny, and gets extremely hot, enough to burn your finger. Highly recommend adding a fan to it (I did). Some SATA cables will get stuck in the connectors; I had to litterally crush the cable to get it back out! The supplied cables have tabs on them to push on to release them. Thanks to whoever designed that!

Other Thoughts: Biostar's T series boards seem to be of higher quality. But, this board for the crucial capacitors uses Rubycon, the best. Fix the Northbridge cooler and you will get a 5.
