5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid board, its been running for 5 years now. Just built a whole new rig recently, but this will still be used as a secondary computer until it dies.

Cons: None for its age

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Board

Pros: Build #1 using this board has been working at theoffice for more than a year. Steady as a rock. Recently completed build #2 using this board. Writing this review on it. Comes with a faceplate for the rear ports, which in turn aligns perfectly with the opening in a Winsis WN-19 Micro-ATX case. I have a third build just ahead using this same board again, but pre-installed in MSI's MBOX barebone because less expensive than separate mobo + case.

Cons: None, really. Reading manuals and installation guides helps a lot. The drivers supplied on CD were outdated, but will at least get the machine going. After POST, BIOS routed video to the PCIEx16 graphics card instead of the onboard video port. Took me a worried minute to deduce that. Probably normal behavior, but ignorant me would have liked to find a mention of that "feature" in the manual.

Other Thoughts: Connect the mobo ends of the IDE and floppy disk cables to the motherboard on a flat surface before installing it into the case, to reduce risk of flexing. Maybe put the RAM in as well, for the same reason. Connect front panel wires before installing graphics card, unless your hands are *a lot* smaller than mine. I

3 out of 5 eggsOK

Pros: I just plugged in everything and did not experience any problems. Few features, but what is there works. Overclocked my X4800 from 2.4 to 2.8 ghz just fine even without a voltage increase option. Reasonable price.

Cons: If I have a stick of ram in the second slot, the board is incapable of rebooting without giving a BSOD before the log in screen in Vista. I have to completely turn my computer off and on (and yes, I have tried different types of RAM). Also, MSI makes flashing the BIOS into a HUGE chore. You cannot get the files from their site. They require you to use their auto update software, which did not work for me.

Other Thoughts: For the price I won't complain too much, but really I doubt I will be purchasing another motherboard from MSI.

3 out of 5 eggsBoard Works - Mostly

Pros: It's inexpensive. It works once you figure out what to turn off in the BIOS.

Cons: The BIOS is amazingly short of features. Why did they omit the ability to turn the sound card on/off? That's EXTREMELY annoying.

As with every other motherboard I've ever bought, the BIOS features are severely under documented. I couldn't get the system to boot until I started turning stuff on/off (and I forgot what I actually did to get it to work).

Other Thoughts: I got this to build a system for my sister(she's in New Mexico, I'm in Texas). I saw that someone else said that to enable the sound, you have to jumper some pins on the board.

I now have to find out which pins to jumper to get the sound to work, and then try to guide my non-technically-minded sister in how to find the pins to see if they're already jumpered. Not only that, but I have to send her a jumper via snail mail because MSI didn't provide the required jumper.

If it turns out that the motherboards sound stuff is broken, it will be less hassle just to buy a sound card instead of getting a replacement motherboard. I am pretty sure I can talk my sister through installing a sound card, but installing a motherboard is WAY over her head, and I'm not inclined to have here ship the system back to me so I can do it.

I certainly wouldn't buy one of these for myself.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good Board

Pros: 2 IDE, Nice onboard sound, onboard vid. I overclocked my Athlon 64 x2 4600 from 2.4- 2.7 and no problems! Good Price as well. I like the bios alot its awesome

Cons: Well 1st it arrived DOA. but as always with newegg's outstanding customer service got my replacment fast... there are only two SATA ports and they are 1.5gb not 3.0. i guess thats it oh and you can only put in 2 GB ram max... But hey you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: Paried this thing up with Athlon 64 X2 4600+ OCed to 2.7ghz
2 GB gskill ddr2 800 ram and an old nvidia geforce 6600 GT makes a great light gaming system!

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board; Bad Docs / Audio Problem

Pros: Packs a lot of features into a small footprint.

Cons: Audio - The rear jacks on this board will not work unless the internal audio header is jumpered, and no jumpers are provided. MSI apparently assumed everyone would just use front panel connectors - which my case does not even have! (If I hadn't had an old hard drive lying around to scavenge jumpers from...)

Documentation - For the audio drivers to work properly, you have to install Windows XP Service Pack 3 - before - you install the Realtek drivers. If you install the Realtek drivers first, then SP3, the audio will not work. This is not documented anywhere in the manual (unless it's not in English)!

Other Thoughts: Go to "MSI HQ User to User Forum" to get additional info on setting up this board properly, or what to do if you loaded SP3 after the Realtek drivers.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI K9VGM-V AM2

Pros: Is a very good basic motherboard. I have used this on many builds for customers with NO problems. MSI makes a very good product. Will buy again.

3 out of 5 eggsok

Pros: Cheap, functions. A few overclocking controls.

Cons: Onboard video sucks tacos. But it's good for what its being used for, browsing the internet. It can even handle a few of the older games.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy!

Pros: None.

Cons: Couldn't get sound to work with XP on either of the two mobos I bought from NewEgg. MSI tech support was absolutely useless.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate to commets below

Pros: see last...

Cons: Cannot adjust the memory timing for this board. BIOS set the values to 5-5-5-15 when should be 4-4-4-12. It appears changing memory timing is not an option for this board, but you can adjust the voltage. If you need to adjust memory settings other than voltage, I do not recommend this board.

Other Thoughts: Running stable on default BIOS settings, but wish it could be better.
