2 out of 5 eggsDying ...

Pros: 1 button overclock; 4 RAM slots; USB 3

Cons: After only 1 year SATA ports 3 and 4 are dead/dying. They recognize my drives about 50% of the time, and they often cut out in Windows - requiring a power-off, wait, reboot, check if drives are in BIOS. On-board USB 2 dying, I've lost 2 ports so far.

Other Thoughts: When I bought this board it was highly rated. I think on re-evaluation a lot of people will have intermittent hardware problems with the integrated circuits.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.

50% of the time in the BIOS? Sometimes detected and sometimes are not?
Have you tried resinstalling the OS?
If you can confirm that the board is defective, then we can help to issue you a RMA#.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat mobo....horrible RMA service

Pros: Awesome color scheme.
USB 3 support
Was able to overclock my i7 2700K to 4.7Ghz
OC Genie feature is great for beginners
Reasonably priced
USB 2 power port

Cons: Heatsinks might interfere with CPU cooler
Only 1 front USB 2 header
Bad fan header positioning
USB port is pretty loose.
Bios update failed
HORRIBLE customer serive

Other Thoughts: I bought this board for my first build in September. Worked great, but when I got a new keyboard(Corsair K90) it would not let me go into the Bios. I read online the updating the BIOS may help. So I proceeded to update the bios using the way stated on the MSI website. Unfortunately the update failed and the mother board stopped working.

So I ended up sending the mobo to MSI for RMA. According to them they got the mobo on Feb. 20 2013.
It is now Mar. 17 and I still do not have the mobo back.
This is over their max turnaround time of 15 days. When I called up their support team the only thing the guy could tell me was to wait a couple more days, but they still have not shipped the board.

I am going to stay away from MSI for my future purchases, hope fully my MSI 660Ti does not die on me.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
The keyboard issue had been resolved since BIOS v4.1 and the latest version is 4.3, see below URL.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I like pushing one button on the motherboard to overclock the CPU.

Cons: This board is discontinued. Didn't realize this when I purchased it. It will not use the new intel cpu's.

Other Thoughts: After purchasing, I found out that the bios would not support the new intel cpu's. So I sent my new board to MSI to have the bios flashed. Almost 3 weeks later I get a board back (not my new board). Got it installed and could not get it to post with 16gb of ram, 4x2gb. After much head scratching I came to realize Dimm 1 and 2 do not work. Dimm 3 and 4 with 2gb in each dimm will post. This means I can only run half of my memory that I wanted to. Tech support said to get an RMA and send it back. Went online to get an RMA and when I enter the serial number of the board that MSI sent me, It says it is invalid and I can't get an RMA number until I put in the correct number. Double checked the number on the box and on the board and the match and are correct. I gave up and ordered another band of motherboard from Newegg today.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

3 out of 5 eggs???

Pros: Nice mainboard easy to setup and enough nice features..
Great for an average user built' my Mother in this case
I am a Computer programmer and engineer since the computer infancy working for a major PC Company for the last 24 yrs.

Cons: From the fifth day the board started acting weird..
It will power on and then power off intermittently without actual provocation.
User was using it sparingly approximately 30' per day

Other Thoughts: Had same experience with a Gigabyte board back in 2011 and it turn out to be a barely bend CPU Pin.. I think this is the problem on this one, will try to get it replaced

5 out of 5 eggsThis board is not for the newer 3rd generation Ivy Bridge processor, only Sandy Bridge!

Pros: Great price.
Lots of features, like easy overclocking.
Full-sized.
Four RAM slots.
Six SATA ports.
Eight rear USB 2.0 ports.
USB 3.0 ports in back and a separate cable for two more in the back of your desktop.
Came with several SATA cables.
Lots of instructions.

Cons: Six of the SATA ports are close together and face the back, which makes it difficulty to loop the excess cable.
Only one internal USB 2.0 connector.
No other complaints.

Other Thoughts: Got a great price since it was an older board. I thought I knew it all but realized too late that this board WILL NOT work with the newer i5 or i7 Ivy Bridge processors, it will ONLY WORK with the older 2nd generation Sandy Bridge processors!

That's why everyone is slamming this board. If you put in a newer processor like the Intel i5 3570K, which is Ivy Bridge, it will not work. It will start, beep 4 times then re-boot. It will do it again and again. There is no easy way around it.

It you get a newer processor, get a Z77 board, which will take advantage of the built in video capabilities of the newer Intel cpu's.

I found out the hard way. Just built a desktop and when I started it up, I would hear the computer start, then 4 beeps, and the computer would re-boot. It would do this over and over again. I checked the web and did research, which told me that this board is for the Sandy Bridge i5 or i7.

I am very happy with what it can do and it's not MSI or Newegg's fault that I got the wrong processor, which I bought after I ordered this processor. It's a lot of bang for the buck.

1 out of 5 eggsOld Bios ver. 1.B shipped

Pros: Works after updating Bios, Newegg shipping

Cons: MSI needs some workout, possible new CEO. Whoever allowed them to list the newer CPU with 22nm build under this motherboard supported processors page was technically ret* and needs evaluation. My Board purchased 10/12/2012 got an older bios with ver. 1.B dated 2011-04-20. If you don't have another 32nm in stock or older CPU build up. DONT buy this board, I will be cautious from other MB's that MSI sells.

Is that hard to recall the remaining boards from their resellers and update the bios for them? Is MSI reputation that somehow worthless for them! It cost millions to build trust for consumers.

Other Thoughts: I should have left technical comment to help others in their conquest for a good board, instead been wasted for some neglect from Manufacture to pin point at their support page, that this MB needs a bios update before running 22nm CPU.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
Unfortunately, this product is not intended to be sold and bundled with Ivy Bridge processors and we do not plan to recall them at the moment.

Please be advised that the board was originally designed for Sandy Bridge platform using 2nd gen, 2xxx processors and we've added support for existing owners to upgrade to Ivy Bridge processor with BIOS update which was released earlier this year.
Therefore, all Ivy Bridge processor will not work with this motherboard right out of box without a new BIOS update.

Please kindly visit the URL below to set up a RMA with the following information and we can update BIOS for you free of charge.
http://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/rma_form_new.aspx

4. Email address
5. Serial number (located on the box, or underneath the motherboard, eg 601-xxxx-xxxBxxxxxxxxxx)
6. Symptoms you are having onto the Special Remark section (be sure to mention Ivy Bridge BIOS update)

Once your information and warranty coverage are verified then we can proceed with this RMA for you.
Our turn-around time is typically about one week and our system will notify you automatically at every stage of your RMA process.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the product, received the unit back from RMA but are still having issues, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at usreview@msi.com and we will be more than happy to assist you, thank you.

Pros: None.

Cons: MB will not post to BIOS. Have tested all peripherals, power supply inputs, switched from HDMI to VGA to DVI and nothing works.

I will never purchase another MSI product.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA board, terrible QC

Pros: nothing

Cons: DOA

Other Thoughts: MSI stopped testing every board before sending them out?
This is unacceptable...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
Please note that the board will not POST right out of box if you are using a 3rd generation (Ivy Bridge) processor.

1 out of 5 eggsReview RMA update

Pros: None anymore...

Cons: This is an update to the review I posted about my RMA procedure. Things have changed drastically. I just received my 3rd replacement Motherboard from MSI. Another one that does not work. I have to admit that noe of the issues have been the same. The 1st board was just plain DOA, not working from day one. 2nd board actually worked and I was happy at last ...for 8 days. Then it would just cycle on/off in 2 secs, no post, just power up/down. 3rd board I got today. I figured that someone would make sure that this would never happen 3 times in a row...Well, I guess they really don't care, or are really just overwhelmed with things to do...This board does power up and posts outside of my case, however, once inside it simply does nothing but power on , flash the power phase lights, then get so hot that I thought it would eventually cook my processor if I didn't turn it off. I understand that they are probably using refurbished boards for their RMA's I'm sure all of the companies do. But this is just ridiculous...Funny thing is I remember thinking when I first bought into this platform that I was tossed between the MSI and EVGA motherboards. Well, I bought 2 EVGA gtx470's and have them sli'd to this day! YEs, there was an RMA in the 2 years I have had the cards, but only 1, not 3 or 4...

Other Thoughts: I honestly have no idea what to do at this point. I have absolutely no faith and confidence that they will ever get this right.

I should have just went with all EVGA parts.....

If you are trying to decide about buying this brand...make sure you read all of the posts on MSI products...

I for one will never purchase another of their products again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
It's hard to believe that the boards you've received failed to work.
Have you verified that your components are working? If not, then those are also the things you should look into.
