1 out of 5 eggsWorked decently until BIOS update Bricked It

Pros: At the time of purchase, it was one of the first motherboards that supported Sandybridge Processors. Overclocking was great(for both RAM and CPU). USB 3.0 rear ports worked well. The front ones not as well.

Cons: Updated the BIOS a few days ago(it said successfully) and it bricked the motherboard. Now it comes on for a few seconds, goes off, and repeats the cycle. Called MSI support and they said I'm out of luck since the warranty was expired.

Other Thoughts: Bought an AS Rock Z77 Extreme 4 as a replacement. IMO if a BIOS update kills a motherboard, the company should fix it regardless of the warranty status.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Please try the below tips out;
1. Clear CMOS, Power down system, remove the CMOS battery for 1 to 2 min and reseat battery retest.
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

5 out of 5 eggsNevermind, board was totally fine.

Pros: I'm stupid. Disregard previous review. The motherboard is still perfectly fine.

Cons: None that I know of. The issue did not involve the motherboard.

2 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Good layout. Plenty of PCI slots, PCI-e slots and SATA ports. BIOS is easy to use.

Cons: Died after 3 years.

Other Thoughts: Long Story: Computer started bluescreening about once a month in the 2nd year of its life. Then, last month a graphics driver installation locked up and the next reboot caused bluescreens on every boot attempt (right after the windows 7 logo). Formatted hard drive, bluescreens during windows installation. Replaced hard drive and stable for 1 month, then suddenly keyboard stops working and upon reboot the bluescreens start again (unbootable). Tried switching SATA ports, changing SATA cable and checked everything on the motherboard. There is nothing visibly wrong with it. A friend suspected the SATA controller may be broken and is writing garbage data and corrupting windows files but have not confirmed. Can boot OS from disc and optical drive is plugged in via SATA so I'm not sure if that disproves that theory.

Short Story: It died.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2).
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

3 out of 5 eggsA lot more happy

Pros: Very courteous technical support - MSI is taking back the motherboard under warranty for a BIOS reset. Score raised to 3 eggs!

Cons: Previous OC Genie comments still stand. Will attempt manual OC next time around.

1 out of 5 eggsBig disappointment

Pros: Nice layout, good mix of PCI-e and PCI slots, Great overclock (when it worked.)

Cons: BIOS issues from the get-go. Had to reset to factory setting after running OC Genie otherwise the mobo went into a BIOS startup loop. BIOS bricked after several OC genie rounds so it's now in the trash can.

Other Thoughts: This was my first bad experience with MSI mobos (I've built several rigs over the years - all very reliable) The change to a windows based BIOS may not be such a good idea.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
OC Genie is overclocking tool and its result cannot be guaranteed due to its complex nature.
However, you can clear CMOS to revive the system.

2 out of 5 eggsBad Mobo

Pros: Every single thing about this mobo is perfect, and in the definition.

Cons: I might have been the unlucky one here... I have had 6 sticks of ram, 2 CPUs, 1 GPUs, and 2 PSUs fry. I have never overclocked this build, not even to test it.

After I replaced it with an ASUS mobo, I have yet to have a single problem with the computer, and it's been almost as long now with the ASUS mobo.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Stable
OC Genie II
solid capacitors

Cons: UEFI BIOS

Other Thoughts: This has been a great board for the year plus that i have had it. My only complaint is with the UEFI Bios. While it works it could be better, the latest version fixed a couple of bugs with it. Overall I would purchase again.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst MB I ever owned!

Pros: Nice Feature List

Cons: Board is not stable at all. Constantly crashes.

Other Thoughts: First board I received was DOA. No problem Newegg replaced it. Thanks. Second board has been a stability nightmare since I installed it. I am trying to use all Sata ports, but unfortunately the board can't seem to handle it. I get BSOD's all the time. I've RMA'd every single drive in the system (6 in total) due to failing, but now I think it was just the MB.

System just crashed this morning and can't get it to boot anymore. Either locks up at Windows logo or BSOD's. Just before it failed I started getting Event ID 129 "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0" and now without a PC ... Again. No more MSI boards for me. I done. I need a reliable board. Not one that crashs every few weeks. Frustrated!!!
