3 out of 5 eggsNot an easy install MoBo

Pros: USB 3.0 backwards compatibility with USB 2.0
SLI capable
PCI slots for a high-end audio card
Works with SSD out of the box
Nice heat sinks for north and south bridge
Click BIOS is nice

Cons: Initially I setup this board in a mid tower ATX case with a tight fit not only on the board and case in terms of the mounting holes but, also when installing the video card and audio card into their respective slots. This was not the case with the older board where everything fit snugly and I didn't feel uneasy using extra force to seat a card. I began to have trouble getting it to stay in Windows 7 64 bit home for more than 20 seconds after the initial build, adjust the BIOS to AHCI. Not sure what the issue there was as it would BSOD and loop. Flashed the BIOS to most recent version which remedied this but, unable to overclock my processor and adjust voltage to specific numbers as of the most recent BIOS. On top of this, I was sent the European manual with many languages BUT absolutely no explanation of all the features and acronyms contained within the BIOS and what they do. I feel very aggravated in needing to research all the unfamiliar terms and their respective uses when all of that information should be documented in the first place.

Other Thoughts: First board had bent processor socket pens. RMA'd, free shipping to and from courtesy of newegg. Shoddy manual. I am using the same hardward from an MSI P67A-C43 board, purchasing this one to use it for SLI gaming and amazingly, it boots much slower than my previous board using a 128GB SSD. Old time was 14 seconds, now its 26 seconds to hit the desktop from POST. Compared to the MSI P67A-C43 board, this is unworthy of the difficulty to get it working plus the interface of the BIOS has changed and been convoluted to a simpler but confusing array of options. If it ain't broke, MSI, Don't fix it.

3 out of 5 eggsBIOS outdated as shipped!

Pros: This seems to be a very high quality and solid board with tons of features for the price. I have purchased numerous MSI P67A-GD53 in the past with great results and the GD80 looks to be of the same high quality. That said I will have to ding MSI for not recalling this board and updating its BIOS or at the very least having its re-sellers note that the board will not function as shipped with Intel's 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge Processor. The board works great with the 2nd Gen Sandy Bridge and is a solid performer.

Cons: Fortunately for us we had a Sandy Bridge Processor handy to do the BIOS upgrade on the four P67A-GD80 motherboards we ordered from Newegg. It was a bit of a possess but easier and more time saving than RMAing the boards or Ivy Bridge processors back to Newegg or the manufacture.

This problem is noted mutable times in the reviews section for this item, and I didn’t think to read the reviews as the board had a decent rating. That said, I do believe that due to this boards incompatibility with the Ivy Bridge Processor as shipped, Newegg should note this in the description or at least have some sort of information listed in a more obvious area for this item.

5 out of 5 eggsFix for Boot Loop

Pros: Just wanted to say The reason mine was doing the power loop is because for some reason It did not like my hyper 212 cpu cooler when I put the stock intel fan back on it booted up fine .. Then I bought a H50 water cooler it was doing same thing boot loop I had to loosen the cooler to get the boot loop to go away .. So most likely the boot loop is caused by the Cpu cooler ..... also the first time you boot you should only have one ram stick installed ... Hope this helps

Cons: Cpu cooler Problems

4 out of 5 eggsFor the Price, its aaaall right..

Pros: fast, lots of expandability, THX on board, so far so good

Cons: DOA first board out of box. of course newegg was quick to correct it but still was disappointing. so far no performance issues im aware of. fast video conversions, gaming etc

Other Thoughts: the only bummer was the DOA. just RMA'd a new one and ive been gaming on pretty much every game now high settings (with a nvidia 550ti, 8 gb ram, i5 2500 sandy bridge) since.. this came with a new egg package that included the RAM, gamer tower case, mobo and processor and after 3 weeks of research i ended up settling on it and so far havent been disappointed with the performance. was a good deal with the package for the performance im getting right now and everybody is jealous of the in game results. havent even really turned on the overclocking yet and i dont know how to check at the moment if my sandy bridge is implimented, that's next for me right now. so just out of the box and into the game so far so food.

3 out of 5 eggsSandy Bridge Only!! No Ivy Bridge!!

Pros: The board has plenty of ports and utilities although because of the cons I can't say how well they work.

Cons: I bought the board along with and Ivy Bridge processor. The problem occurred when I found out that the board WILL NOT WORK with Ivy Bridge processors straight out of the box. If you are purchasing the board make sure you have a Sandy Bridge processor. I would also do a little more research to make sure that the Sandy Bridge processor model you a buying will work properly with this board.

1 out of 5 eggsMore trouble than I want

Pros: Looks pretty and has potential

Cons: I ordered this mother board as part of a package that NewEgg had put together. I was initially pleased with the reviews on all the items. I showed this package to my buddy who was going to help me put it together and then the negative reviews about the mother board's infinite loop.

I thought I was in the clear when MSI responded to those with negative reviews and made it seem as if the problem was that the owner wasn't using a Sandy Bridge processor and the package I purchased had a Sandy Bridge i5. But here I am dealing with the infinite loop and zero guidance online on how to fix it or any solution apart from sending it to MSI and (from what I've read below) wait a month to get replacement and even then I may have the same issue.

Unfortunately for me I decided to wait until the weekend to build my new pc and MSI customer support is closed on weekends, though I can't knock them for that, it just adds to the frustration.

I'm tempted to just order another mother board (don't know which one yet) and get a refund on this mother board but that will really depend on my conversation with MSI customer service. If they just tell me to send them this and they will replace it I wont be too pleased.

Other Thoughts: Another add to frustration and this is more of a "poor me" thought. I used to game quite frequently until I got this job 5 years ago and lost the time/energy to game as much. I was approved for a week long vacation (rare event in this company) and looked forward to being like one of those teenager that game so much they forget to eat and get sick...

1 out of 5 eggsDOA X2

Pros: Unfortunately I cannot even get to a boot screen

Cons: Stuck in infinite loop. I cannot even boot. RMA'd and have a second board with the same problem. All other components have been checked in another computer. Now im stuck with a bad board and have to deal with MSI.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
Please be advised that the board was originally designed for 2nd Gen Sandy Bridge CPU with part number 2xxx, then we've added support for existing owners to upgrade to Ivy Bridge processor through a new BIOS update which was released earlier last year.
Therefore, all Ivy Bridge processor will not work with this motherboard right out of box without a new BIOS update.
If you want a functional system right out of box with 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge CPU then you will need to purchase Z77 motherboards.

Finally, please kindly visit the URL below to set up a RMA with the following information and we can update BIOS for you free of charge.
http://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/rma_form_new.aspx

1. Full name (first, and last)
2. Telephone #
3. Physical address
4. Email address
5. Serial number (located on the box, or underneath the motherboard, eg 601-xxxx-xxxBxxxxxxxxxx)
6. Symptoms you are having onto the Special Remark section (as detailed as possible)

Once your information and warranty coverage are verified then we can proceed with this RMA for you.
Our turn-around time is typically about one week once the board arrives and our system will notify you at every stage of your RMA process.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the product, received the unit back from RMA but are still having issues, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at usreview@msi.com and we will be more than happy to assist you, thank you.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Be Fooled

Pros: It's a motherboard

Cons: The board I received was basically DOA. Installed it, and when I tried to power up my computer, it powered up for about 15 seconds and then shut off, and it continued to do this over and over. I believe this is called an infinite power loop. The worst part is that a friend of mine ordered the exact same board and had the exact same problem, so he had it replaced with another, of the same board, and still had the same exact problem. We've both troubleshooted the problem and all signs point to this motherboard. Don't be fooled by the specs, MSI obviously has some issues to work out with this one.

Other Thoughts: Extremely disappointed I have to pay to ship back a product that's defective. This was supposed to be a reasonable Christmas present, but it's turning out to be a real hassle.

1 out of 5 eggsA whole lot of Awful

Pros: It has blue on the motherboard

Cons: RMA'd 2 boards and my friend had to as well. It powers on for a few seconds and then just shuts off (Infinite Loop). Steer clear of MSI boards!

Other Thoughts: The sad part is that i have to keep paying shipping costs.
