2 out of 5 eggs?????

Pros: I purchased this board on 2/8/12. The board booted on the first try with no problems. Win 7 installed with no problems and the computer was much faster than before when paired with an AMD Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition 3.6 Ghz. cpu and 4 GB of Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1333 memory. This computer was never OC'd.

Cons: After about 6 months the honeymoon was over. The computer started having random crashes but they were just an annoyance at first. The crashes became more frequent and then in Dec. after a MS update the computer would not boot into windows without crashing. Since there was a laptop available for use I have been troubleshooting this on and off since then. At first I couldn't even boot into safe mode but eventually I was able to. Recently the computer even started crashing in safe mode and last month (March) my second raid array went offline for no reason. If that weren't enough, tonight ( 3/6/12) I found out by accident that the partition table on the second raid array is corrupt. To make matters worse now the video has started failing when you try to boot into safe mode or anything else.

Other Thoughts: I have built 4 different computers and upgraded them all using MSI motherboards and AMD cpu's on the initial builds and on upgrades and the only problem that I ever had like this was a 4-5 year old board that failed. I have sold the motherboards that I upgraded and never had a complaint. As a matter of fact the computer that I am using now has a socket AM 2 motherboard which I purchased in 2007.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enough

Pros: Ive had the board for awhile and now and have only had 1 issure with it. Had computer in Hybernating mode for long period of time, and it wouldnt boot after that, simple had to clear the CMOS and it began to work once again. OC genie is a rediculously stupid program, Oc'd system by myself from 3.1 to 3.59, have 21 degree idles with a 1 fan heat sink. Use OC genie and it automatically bumps it up to the exact same clock, Yet with idle temps around 47c. Not very fawnd of this program nor MSI control center. MSI after burner is a different story. Love After Burner. Over all the customer sevice with the product was decent. But i would never purchase a board for only 70 bucks and ecpect everything to go completly right. Dont be cheap, spend only 70, and then complain. Its your own Fault.

Cons: North Bridge gets hella hot. OC Genie is Awful, Board is Flimsy,

Other Thoughts: MSI is one of the best out there. It would be the same if you spent 70 on a ASUS board. Their both Amazing companies, But In order to have a Beast Comp you have to spend at least 1300

1 out of 5 eggsCompletely useless!

Pros: None, as it never really worked.

Cons: Well... none either, besides the fact that it has no video output. At first when I got it, I tried plugging in a DVI cable on my GPU, no video then, however I remained hopeful that I just needed to install the drivers for my GPU, and sadly, due to unforeseen financial problems, I was unable to test out that theory, before now, by buying a monitor and a bunch of conversion cables for the MOBO's VGA output(which is a 9 pin VGA MALE, and most monitors come with a female HD15 pin VGA, and a male2male cable). Sadly it still did not work. I tried pulling out the RAM sticks, removing the CMOS battery for a while, and made sure that each cable is connected properly, and after all that it still did not work. I know, that gives two choices left, its either the CPU or the MOBO... So I tested the CPU on a different computer, and it worked. When I turn on my machine, everything works just as it should, all fans are spinning, all the LEDs in my case light up, etc..

Other Thoughts: I am very dissatisfied with MSI motherboards. This was a computer that I have been working on for quite some time, and it was going to be my first truly earned gaming rig... I guess that's what I get for going for the cheap parts like this...

2 out of 5 eggsreally

Pros: i was one of the lucky ones my board worked great for almost a year.

Cons: dont ever use the live update software it flashed my bios and bricked my system, there is no getting into a boot device manger to even try to boot form usb to reflash the bios. so newmother board here i come, not a msi.

Other Thoughts: why have a program from the manufactor that will mess up your system. when you got to the website it even says dont update they bios this way. if you cant do it that way take the option out of the program.

1 out of 5 eggsMSI let down

Pros: The color scheme is nice, as I am a fan of black and blue. The specifications aren't bad for the price (I paid $80 before newegg dropped the price and discontinued it, which I'll get to in a moment why they did)

Cons: First and foremost, I believe that MSI's track record is going down further and further. I used to believe that MSI was a strong brand, with good customer service and reliable products. But, after purchasing this board, I would not go too far to say that Dell is better. It's that bad. When I originally recieved the first (keyword: first) board, I initially didn't have a single problem. I recieved what I paid for. Then, using MSI Live Update 4, it tried to update the BIOS, which caused in a bad BIOS flash. So, there goes $20+ USD in shipping, because MSI doesn't believe that the customer deserves a waiving of the shipping fee (even though their program caused it) Over a month later, I recieve a "brand-new" board that was "swapped." I spend all that time plugging everything back in only to find that all of the SATA ports are bad. I contact MSI customer service explaining my grief. Their response? "Sorry, but that was tested thoroughly" delaying another RMA I refuse to pay to ship.

Other Thoughts: I don't blame newegg at all, because what they sent me was actually working. I do, however, blame MSI for having poor customer service times and representatives that believe arguing through email about how its IMPOSSIBLE that the board is defective and must be the customer's error. I give this board one egg, because I can't give any lower than that.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear coolrick92,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
Have you verified the board outside of case to confirm that the SATA ports are truly defective?

Regarding your 2nd RMA, we can provide a prepaid shipping label for you to return the board back to us.
Or we can help you to arrange a cross shipment and cover 2-way shipping. (Subject to availability and a VISA/MC card is required).
Please kindly get in touch with us at usreview@msi.com with your previous RMA# and we would like to assist you in getting this issue resolved satisfactorily, thank you.

1 out of 5 eggsYet Another Defective Board

Pros: None that deserve mentioning.

Cons: To date, out of the last lot of five boards we purchased, two have failed within several weeks of being placed into service—I just received a call this morning from a client whose PC went bell-up—and a third was defective out of the box with no sound and a dead SATA port.

Although Newegg is no longer listing this product as available, I suggest to anyone who happens to read this review to carefully consider from which vendor you are about the purchase a board. There's a pattern to this, I believe.

Other Thoughts: MIS has reached a new low in quality control with what, in my long memory, has proven to be the least reliable motherboard made since the Abit KG-7. My partner and I are contemplating the removal of MSI from our motherboard vendor list. It's too bad. We've built hundreds of workstations with MSI boards. That will be coming to an end if MSI doesn't get a handle on their quality control issues real soon.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have had this card for about 4 months now and I have had zero problems with it (knocking on wood).

Cons: I do have on the front of my case a 1394 plug. The motherboard does not support this. There is no place to plug it in. I wish there was.

Other Thoughts: I am still happy with this board.

4 out of 5 eggsSLI - ??????????

Pros: OK board for running 1 video card..........flimsy......only 6 mounting holes for install.

Cons: If you're buying this board to run SLI as I did ( & I'm sure most others have), be aware that it does not come with the SLI connector. Don't know if this is an oversight on MSI or just cheap on their part. I don't know how they expect you to run SLI without it. 1st Board I've bought ( or seen) that didn't supply this. Guess it doesn't pay to assume the obvious. Guess you're supposed to go out & buy one & hope it works.
