3 out of 5 eggsBad OC Voltage drops

Pros: Nice clean pretty layout, sturdy enough for waterblocks and backplating. I also like the ethernet controller which can prioritize programs and an in-os bios menu that you can use to toggle bios settings. Great for running things on stock. Like the clear cmos button on the back

Cons: The bios programs are crud. Liveupdate is crud. I manually installed the latest drivers myself. OC genie is terribly conservative with its overclock. I cant ramp up the cpu voltage past 1.49v and maybe its my amd 8350 but im getting bad stability. Looking at my voltages they fluctuate uncomfortably for overclocking past 4.3ghz. Motherboard does not display stock voltages only "auto"

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend to pay up for the crosshair v formula, or anything else. The bios menu is crud.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, until the MSI BIOS flash fails...

Pros: -Decent layout
-Looks nice
-Worked amazing....until...

Cons: The only con I have had so far with this board is a BIOS flash program failure which killed my board. So when I RMA'ed the board I had about 2 weeks downtime at my expense for shiping, replaced the board and now I get the "connected/disconnected an audio device" popup almost every 15 minutes (average), sometimes more sometimes less. I had to disable all notifications and turn the sound off for the particular notification to keep the annoyance to a minimum. I also get about a 1 sec pause every time it does it. My previous board worked perfectly until the MSI BIOS flash program this board has this really annoying issue.

Other Thoughts: Great board, just wish the new board i received didnt have this annoying issue....

3 out of 5 eggsGreat for a while

Pros: USB 3.0, OC Genie II, Crossfire & SLI, Click Bios.

Cons: I have had the board for 8 months and it was a dream and I was very proud of it until last Sunday when it won't get past error code 99.

Other Thoughts: I have looked on the internet and Error Code 99 is a killer, I have done everything I can think of and everything I have seen on the web and the board is dead. I'm going to buy a new board but not one like this as it is way more board than I need.

5 out of 5 eggsAll is well

Pros: Everything about it. I RMA'd this board back to MSI about 7 months ago due to a failed bios update. MSI sent me out a completely new board. They sent me the 990FXA-GD80V2 board which is the same board but with completely updated bios and better drivers. havent had any issues with this board since.

I'm running a FX-6100 CPU overclocked to 4.0Ghz stable 100% of the time.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Thinking about grabbing another one of these

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Motherboard.

Pros: Mostly worked at the start.

Cons: Motherboard randomly hung from day one. Three weeks ago I started getting 20-30 second hang ups for no reason. The issue was my primary drive (SSD) was sitting at 100% highest active time even with disk usage was <10MB/sec. Spent three weeks checking every possible issue since this happens with SSDs. Today windows failed to start, and I cannot even load up from an install CD. I've eliminated every other issue, this motherboard is the problem.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because the last MB I bought from Newegg died six times in three years and took 6 weeks to replace every time and I was finally fed up since this caused issues with my work. Now this is past the 30 days Newegg will replace so I have to take weeks to get it fixed. I want my money back because I'm sick of terrible MBs.

5 out of 5 eggsworks as intended

Pros: works
great priceq

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I am not a techie, but I have built computers before. That is why I was a little scared as I have not built one for 10 years, but I made the right choice with this mobo, and I have not had any problems with it.

5 out of 5 eggsBeast

Pros: this is msi's high end amd board... i got it open box for 60 less... no problems other then just got board and i/o panel that they seemed to make sure i got... dont be afraid to buy open box for the discount.. as of now 6.9.12 thes boards are new and if they are returned its probaly because some kid forgot to plug in the 8 pin power header and wouldnt boot.. lol.

Cons: none.. its beautiful

Other Thoughts: 3 6950's.. ultra on any game... the 4th pci slot is worthless unless you are using water blocks and im assuming if you use 4 vid cards you would be running them anyhow... 1055t stable at 4.2ghz with just upping the fsb and lowering the ram back to around normal speeds.. if you dont get drivers disk with openbox just use another comp and get the ethernet driver of the msi site and usb it.. then install and go to site on board and download the rest.. liveupdate works great in windows mode for bios updates.. 6th board and no problems doing bios flash threw windows mode on live update..

5 out of 5 eggsGood mobo

Pros: USB 3.0, lots of PCIe ports, OC Genie, comes with lots of cables/bridges. I haven't used the OC Genie function yet, but it seems nice, and the BIOS isn't bad. I also haven't tried to update the BIOS yet, as I heard people were having some issues with that. I picked this board with a Crossfire setup in mind, and specifically for the number/position of the PCIe ports, and it's working out well.

Cons: USB 3.0 header is wierd? It's an expansion slot mounted card that plugs into the mobo header, and apparently it won't boot to Windows if I have my 1TB external plugged in there. Could be my fault, but I can't figure out what I could have set up wrong.

Other Thoughts: Good motherboard overall. Booted right out of the box, no issues at all with drivers or anything. Had to reinstall Windows, but not that big of a deal. Only comment I have is that the adapters for the power/reset/led/etc. pins are kind of gimmicky, and don't seem all that necessary.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks Great...Except Onboard Audio

Pros: Works Great, No Errors, Very Quick and Stable. Seems to be very well built, and well designed.

Cons: Onboard Audio has some issues. It works, in the sense that it provides sound BUT its' maximum volume level can be far too low.

I updated to the latest drivers available on MSI's website(as the ones on the Drivers disc are from August of 2011) and that didn't resolve the problem.

I am using a pair of Razer Carcharias headphones for gaming, and the fact that I frequently have problems hearing people in youtube videos(despite having my volume set to 100 and the in-line volume control on the headphones set to MAX) tells me there's an issue with the onboard audio. Thankfully, I don't have problems with the games I play but this is a rather big issue.

To be clear I'm using the connectors on the back of the motherboard, not front panel audio. This is NOT a case of PEBKAC.

Other Thoughts: Up until last month I was making due with an Asus Crosshair along with a FX-62 CPU. I'm now running the MSI 990FXA-GD80 with a FX8150 CPU, the difference in speed and gaming has been astounding. If it weren't for the issue with the Audio I'd easily have given this board 5/5 eggs.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice board

Pros: Great product! Can't go wrong with mil. spec. Got this board as a first ever install. Board doesn't get above 36C on a load (playing games like Starcraft II, Guild Wars, Vindictus to name a few) after playing at least two hours of play. This board has many options for future add-ons I may do. Also the use of a mouse on BIOS is great.

Cons: Wish it had two USB 3.0 Plug ins. my Case has a usb 3.0 built in and this MOBO comes with one to install as option. But i'll live. Hope this review helped.

Other Thoughts: System:
