2 out of 5 eggsOK board, STILL poor customer service

Pros: Pros: A very low price for so many features, including support for legacy products (3 PCI slots, even RS-232 serial and parallel printer ports), has 4 DIMM slots.

Cons: MSI tech support is still "less than perfect" and still can't tell me if the newer Ivy Bridge BIOSes are compatible with Sandy Bridge CPUs. All they do is say, "We don't recommend upgrading the BIOS unless necessary," often multiple times during the same phone conversation, sometimes even from the same person/robot.

Other Thoughts: MSI advertises "TOP QUALITY & STABILITY" but doesn't quite mean it. And a boot & BIOS video problem that's supposedly due to some of my old monitors being obsolete does not exist with my much newer MSI H81M-E33 ver. 2. Shouldn't it be less compatible with old monitors, not more compatible?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

BIOS V5.2 is compatible with both Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge processors.

CPU support list:
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z68A-G43--G3-.html#/?div=CPUSupport
Celeron Sandy Bridge G540 100 2.50 512K 2M Q0 65 7750v50.zip

V4.X series is no longer maintained, but V5.X is, if there are going to be any fixes in the future.
Thus, it’s recommended to update to the new BIOS if you are going to upgrade the processor.
But if you are having any stability issue at the moment then it’s not recommended to update it.

2 out of 5 eggs50% failure rate

Pros: Two of the four boards I ordered worked.

Cons: Ordered four boards and two worked, two did not. Tried all sorts of component switching to no avail. Requested an RMA. I tried a Sandy bridge CPU but no luck on either. FWIW, the ones that did work were with an IVY bridge.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
Did you get any kind of beeps from the non-functional boards?

If you have any questions, or need a RMA#, then feel free to reach us at usreview@msi.com, thank you.

1 out of 5 eggsterrible... move along

Pros: none, it doesn't work out of the box and I purchased it six months ago so now I have to PAY FOR EXCHANGE with 0-days of use.

Cons: everything... system is DoA per MSI but it sat in stock on my shelf for six months so they will only warranty repair it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
Which process do you have?
Please be advised that the board was originally designed for 2nd Gen Sandy Bridge CPU with part number 2xxx, then we've added support for existing owners to upgrade to Ivy Bridge processor through a new BIOS update which was released earlier last year.
Therefore, all Ivy Bridge processor will not work with this motherboard right out of box without a new BIOS update.
If you want a functional system right out of box with 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge CPU then you will need to purchase Z77 motherboards.

Finally, please kindly visit the URL below to set up a RMA with the following information and we can update BIOS for you free of charge.
http://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/rma_form_new.aspx

1. Full name (first, and last)
2. Telephone #
3. Physical address
4. Email address
5. Serial number (located on the box, or underneath the motherboard, eg 601-xxxx-xxxBxxxxxxxxxx)
6. Symptoms you are having onto the Special Remark section (as detailed as possible)

Once your information and warranty coverage are verified then we can proceed with this RMA for you.
Our turn-around time is typically two weeks once the board arrives and our system will notify you at every stage of your RMA process.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the product, received the unit back from RMA but are still having issues, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at usreview@msi.com and we will be more than happy to assist you, thank you.

1 out of 5 eggsBIOS Update Failed!

Pros: was inexpensive - on sale - with SATA 6/USB 3

Cons: unable to boot IB CPU after update to BIOS version 5.2
neither IB nor SB CPU would POST

Other Thoughts: MSI BIOS utility failed the test.....

1 out of 5 eggsRMA

Pros: none

Cons: This motherboard has some real issues. Constant BSOD's when playing games.

Other Thoughts: I sent it back because I put the video cards in another computer and that corrected the problem. Don't buy this junk if you want to play games.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
BSOD is very likely caused by a faulty configuration therefore it can be an easy fix.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother DOA

Pros: None so far

Cons: Motherboard was DOA. We'll see how MSI's replacement works out. I sure would like to use my new machine.

Other Thoughts: It looks like a lot of the other reviewers are complaining of this issue--maybe more than would be coincidental. Be advised that the buyer is responsible for paying shipping to MSI for any RMA. I guess the rebate is to cover any shipping cost you may incur given the seemingly high likelihood that you probably will have to.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Problem

Pros: After buying this Motherboard I hurried and got a copy of the book “MSI Motherboards for Dummies“. I was ready when the board arrived from Newegg in just a day. I installed a Core i3 2120 Sandy bridge cpu and made all the connections, when I pressed the power button, it posted and booted to the Windows 7 install, everything went well and I did all the Windows 7 updates. Now is when I booted into the bios to have a peek and noticed that I had bios version 5.0 and ME 8... (I must be seeing things I thought) Oh Well.
Two days later my Core i3 3220 ivy bridge came in mail and I was ready to do battle and get the new Ivy bridge cpu to work without fabricating a brick. I had all the downloads ready in several locations, I laid the cpu and fan in nicely, with everything secured I held my breath and pushed the power button……the machine did a few updates on its own and that was it, done, and running Ivy Bridge. Oh the joy!

Cons: Everything In my pros comments is true, exactly the steps I took. The only thing that is not true is, there is no such book "MSI Motherboards for Dummies",

Other Thoughts: My board worked with bios version 5.0 and ME 8 with BOTH sandy and Ivy. Nobody told me it would work.
I say MSI gets an attaboy from me. Maybe direct tiger is lion about the cpu's their selling.

1 out of 5 eggsPower problems

Pros: none

Cons: Board keeps rebooting computer after all power off sequences (including shutdown, hibernate and sleep). System shuts down and reboots 3-5 seconds later. This is replicated with multiple OS installs, multiple power supplies and after unplugging all internal and external peripherals during the 3-5 second window (including mouse/keyboard, HDD, LAN, and power/reset buttons).

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
It seems like your system may have shorts, therefore please kindly test the board outside of chassis to verify the issue again.
