5 out of 5 eggs1st time MSI.As good as I hoped

Pros: This is my 1st msi purchase and has the right price, features for me. Sent in rebate and recieved acknowledgement of it within a week.
Simple and to the point, great overclocker, runs cool
I build and maintain many systems business and gaming and this one is for me.

Cons: NONE! for the 3930k!

Other Thoughts: I use to go for the super fancy boards with all the bells and whistles and usually more hastle so lately It's been standard boards and have been very happy This is being used with i7 3930k and slapped it together plugged it in and bam installed went back and easily overclocked to 4.5ghz at 1.355 volts cpu and 1.2 cpu sa voltage ran p95 for 8 hours while I was gone. Havent tried lower volts but I will! board has plenty of fan power outlets (4 I think) and about the same layout as most boards I can not comment on all the OC buttons and such as I do not use them,The bios is simple with plenty of options, I installed the auto bios update and dloaded the bios and flashed to newest. If you want a great board simple with options this is it.

1 out of 5 eggsReally

Pros: Simple board does the job when it works.

Cons: Where do i even start. Cannot get into my bios with my gigabyte keyboard or my logitech keyboard. Had to borrow a friends microsoft for set up. Now after one crash with no overclocking sets it back to default and expects me to press f1 or f2 to continue. Now i have to go buy a keyboard because msi has poor keyboard support. Emailed them and the only answer they could give me is try another keyboard. Substandard service shame on you msi. Also if triple sli is your thing large cards block all the lower plugins

Other Thoughts: For an enthusiast board this is pathetic. Last msi product for me ever. Back to evga and gigabyte

1 out of 5 eggsstill not looking good

Pros: NONE

Cons: RMAed to MSI still on shipping dock at MSI 3rd day waiting for new BIOS to be flashed. Must have plenty of bad boards. Told RMA would only take 3days by tech. Still waiting for over a month now to enjoy.

1 out of 5 eggsnot looking good

Pros: none so far, RMAed first board, issue with turning off and on, same with second board, RmAed I7 3820 just in case of faulty, but from the other reviews it looks like this was a bad choice.

Cons: Bad choice for the I7 3820 . I probably will be sending the second board back for a refund and geting a different board not msi. This was my first totaly new build and I am totally discusted.

2 out of 5 eggsSeriously?

Pros: Nice board, easy to hook up even for a newbie like myself.

Cons: Baught this to go with my I-7 3820 and I received a board with an outdated BIOS. Compatible with I-7 right on the box........not really. Starting the RMA process today I wouldn't recommend buying MSI with such a careless issue.

5 out of 5 eggsUPDATE to "BAD START" Review

Pros: This is an update to my earlier Review titled "Bad Start".

Cons: RMA Process is slow for product returns, however, NewEgg sent my replacement boards via UPS 1 day ship. Can't complain too much about that!

Other Thoughts: I received my third MSI X79A-GD45 motherboard yesterday. Installed the board, processor, memory, etc., crossed my fingers and held my breath. VOILA! It powered up, entered the UEFI bios and showed bios ver. 1.4. Good! I updated bios to current ver. 1.6 with no problems, installed Win 7 using flash drive, and I am pleased to say that this board is everything I originally thought it would be. It performs exceptionally well. The UEFI click bios is awesome, allowing for settings to be changed at the click of the mouse.

NOTE: Both the manufacturer and NewEgg were helpful in the fact that they continued to honor their end of the bargain. NewEgg paid shipping both ways and, once the rma is received, shipped the replacement board via UPS one day ship. I will definitely continue to be a Newegg customer. MSI, we are building our relationship one day at a time. Great Board, once we got past the problems. I would purchase another,MSI X79A-GD45, if I needed to.

2 out of 5 eggsBad Start

Pros: Great looking board, great design, plenty of room for sli/crossfire set up, plenty of memory slots and capacity for regular computing/gaming, UEFI bios is effective, easy to work with, solid board.

Cons: Bought this board and an Intel i7 3820 processor. Installed it and it would not boot. Troubleshot and found #3 dimm slot, when populated, kept the board from booting and was probably shorted. Installed memory in the remaining slots and got it to boot up and it ran great. Rma'd the board because I would like all the memory slots to work. Waited a week....

Finally received the second board. Installed it and it would not boot. Troubleshot, bench tested (one stick of memory, and power supply, no other peripherals. Code "FF". Called MSI tech support and was told this board obviously shipped with an older version of bios (probably ver. 1.3) which would not support my processor (Intel i7 3820 lga 2011). Rma'd board...still waiting for it to get to California so I can get a replacement. Two weeks wasted.

Hopefully 3rd time is the charm, otherwise I will not be an MSI customer. Been building for a long time, first time I ever had this much of a problem getting one built.

Other Thoughts: I have used Asus and Gigabyte boards exclusively and never have I had an issue like this with brand new boards out of the box. If the board is advertised to support a platform and processor, then it should do just that. I understand NewEgg's policy of no advanced RMA, but I still think it stinks and wastes a lot of time that I could be up and running. Instead I am waiting for the UPS man to show up. I contacted both NewEgg and MSI in hopes of finding a way to identify those problem boards still sitting on NewEggs shelf so I, and no one else would have this problem again. Neither could help in that regard. So, it's a gamble as to whether I get another DOA, or one that works like it's supposed to. More wasted time. I'll keep you posted.

4 out of 5 eggsupdate bios

Pros: Easy OC, stable board, up to 64gb ram supported.

Cons: Would keep restarting after shutdown,
Annoying Cpu multiplier throttling, would keep my 3930k from performing at anything over 3.9ghz on full load no matter what.

Other Thoughts: Updated bios from 1.4 to 1.6 and fixed both issues,
Ocd to 4.8ghz stable with an h100,
Solid performance.

5 out of 5 eggsMicroStar

Pros: Works fine. Posted on first power-on. No issues.

Cons: Not really a con, but you have to really try hard to find the info, that after BIOS update you need to remove the battery and clear the CMOS.

Other Thoughts: MSI X79A-GD45, i7-3820, Corsair VX450W ps, CM Hyper 212EVO, 4x4GB G.Skill RipjawX, Pyro SE, SSD, Velociraptor, Win7 64bit

5 out of 5 eggsSLI Update

Pros: Mobo chipset stays cool even with two monster graphics cards installed. Does what it's suposed to.

Cons: Out of the box network driver caused graphics headache.

Other Thoughts: Just want to update a previous review. SLI support is pretty sloppy out of the box. The problem ended up being an outdated driver for the network LAN from the driver disk causing a conflict with SLI. To correct this, I installed new drivers from the mobo manufacturer's website and I was able to utilize SLI using the most current graphics drivers. I figured it out after a lot of forum searching. Keep this in mind before RMA'ing a motherboard with a Realtek LAN chip dued to the lack of SLI functionality.
