All Solid Capacitors

Capacitors are the most important component for electronic product's power supply. The quality of the capacitors can impact the stability of the entire system and risk of product failure. Currently there are two types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Compared to electrolytic capacitors, solid capacitors have a longer lifespan, and provide a more stable power under high temperatures. More importantly, solid capacitors do not have any liquid materials inside, and thus will not suffer a leak which would infringe upon the product's stability. With such benefits is it no wonder that solid capacitors are very important for product quality's improvement.

SLI technology allows using multiple Nvidia graphics cards in a single computer system with a motherboard equipped with an nForce SLI MCP. APS (Active Phase Switching)

Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI's motherboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor's loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.

2 out of 5 eggsOkay for lower end processors

Pros: Simple, BIOS is easy to navigate and not any useless features

Cons: First off, this thing heats up. The heatsinks literally feel like they could melt right off the board. Its also pretty unstable. It refused to work with an 8gb kit of ram for a few months. I did everything I could to see if it was dead. I ordered a diffrent 8gb kit and it worked fine, but one day I decided to see if that other 8gb would work. Well it worked and now I have 16gb of ram. I have it paired with a AMD FX-8320 and refuses to go past 4.3Ghz (Even then can be unstable.) I know the thing can go past 4.3Ghz easy, I mean c'mon, its an 8320 (Its paired with Corsair H75. Also when trying to oc ram, the timings wont stick. This may be the mixture of 2 brands of memory, but sometimes it will stick. Seems to crash alot.

Other Thoughts: Only 2/5 because it dosnt play nice with anything more than 63xx series of FX processors. Other than that, would be a easy 4/5.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked until it didnt

Pros: Relatively cheap for the features.
Overclock easy to set up.
Worked fine with light use for 13 months.
Gave it one star for the year, but the support is so bad it eliminates any pros

Cons: Stopped working 13 months after light use. Stripped to barebones and powers cpu fan but get no post on board.
Returned board to MSI via RMA.
I was without PC for a month. No updates available from MSI as to the status of the RMA.
Mobo came back with no explanation whatsoever and still doesn't post!!!!
No ability to call or email their support directly. It's the "black box" support model and its a lottery as to what you get out the other end.
Would not recommend this or any other MSI product as their support process is one of the worst I have ever encountered.
Unless you are prepared to simply replace if it breaks, then would not recommend this to anyone.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI rugged

Pros: Cost, heatsinks, form factor, and bells & whistles, quick start guide.

Cons: RAID setup is a little crazy to figure out. Instruction manual sucks for helping you figure out RAID (but didn't take an egg off because overall this is a great motherboard)

Other Thoughts: Bought this motherboard to use in a work station/server at a pharmacy. So I definitely wanted some RAID options. This board said it could do it. Let me say that if I was just setting this up without using hardware RAID this would have been a piece of cake and I wouldn't have even had anything negative to say. But that wasn't the case for me. I wanted 2 of my 1TB drives RAID 1 to install the OS and everything on at once. I found this a little tedious, and after hours of scanning online I found an answer. First you must enable RAID in the bios (dugh) Second you must go to MSI homepage and download bios drivers to a flash. Third you hit control+f when RAID menu comes up on start up. Then to create the RAID you must select option 2 and then click control+c to create the RAID. You aren't done yet! LOL When you install windows you must then insert you flash and download the driver to the computer. Then windows will install properly and your configuration will be in RAID. The instructions do not tell you how to set this up at all. Most other mother boards I have bought do walk you through setting up RAID. Even MSI website doesn't walk you through it. It simply tells you to download it and press F6 on boot up to put the drivers on. (this didn't work at all) If it weren't for spending hours online I would have never figured this out. On a side note the quick install guide is pretty cool for getting it up and running quick. The user manual though lacks a little to be desired MSI let me down a little on this one.

2 out of 5 eggsJust died

Pros: Easy to configure and ran perfectly for 16 months

Cons: After 16 months of light use I noticed the computer was taking longer and longer to boot up. The wait was the for the BIOS screen. 1 minute, 2 minutes, 10 minutes and now It's just sitting there with the hard drive light flashing every now and again. I've disconnected a few components, cleared the CMOS and even put in a fresh lithium battery to no avail. This board is dead as a door nail now :(

5 out of 5 eggsMSI G46

Pros: Not too expensive, still works, Haven't had any problems.

Cons: Some of the heat sinks get hot to the touch. Probably best to stick with a 95w processor, even though I got a 125w Deneb Phenom xII 955 @ 3.7ghz OC'd.

Other Thoughts: I have a good amount of air going thru my case and a old 60 or 70mm cpu fan rigged up (nicely) to cool them hot heat sinks. I did that because all the reviews keep saying this board will fry. Maybe it's just a precaution I took but I have everything OC'd and It's been running that way for nearly a year. I bought this board because It seemed like the best one for the price at the time and I needed something quick and cheap because a bad bios flash killed my MSI NF980-G65. I have some trust in MSI because I have a another old socket 754 from 2004 that's been running overclocked and overvolted everyday for 10 years now.

4 out of 5 eggsStill running good

Pros: * Awesome features for the price
* Runs good without any glitches for a long time

Cons: * Bios is clunky

The bios system has an annoying loading time when settings are clicked/activated. The mouse is supported but only the left mouse button is utilized. The bios interface is generally confusing (not uncommon however). Also, the splash screen is flaky when a bios password is utilized. Additionally, the bios loads a tad slower than I am used too. Oh, there is no drive boot menu, (if there is, I can not find out how to get to it anywhere)!

Other Thoughts: This board is a good buy for the low price it carries. I wouldn't let a un-impressive bios stop you from saving money with this board.

2 out of 5 eggsNice except for PCIe x16 slot

Pros: Everything was easy to get installed onto the board and I was pretty happy with the airflow situation with my case, despite the fact people say this board has poor cooling ability.

BIOS utility is really nice, with mouse functionality, etc.

Boots SUPER fast with Win8.1 and SSD.

Cons: PCIe x16 slot DOA - my video card (EVGA 02G-P4-3751-KR) would only work in the PCIe x8 slot. Also tried my old vido card (XFX GeForce 9500 GT) and it had the same issue, but also worked in the x8 slot. Will be doing RMA.

Confusing settings for BIOS to set memory, PCI clocks, etc, could stand to have a more comprehensive manual.

Other Thoughts: This is probably a nice board if you can get it to work right out of the box. Otherwise I think you should probably seriously consider the reviews (give some thought to the negative ones) before purchasing. Hopefully I can get a new one that works so I don't have to reinstall windows. I will give them one more shot with this model and then try something else.

3 out of 5 eggsThis Board of mine

Pros: Durable
Everything is where it should be, if that makes sense.
Bios is nice and easy to navigate.

Cons: Its been over a year now, and I've never had one single issue until recently. The board at idle as running at 124 F for no reason, Its not a cooling issue, its just getting hot for no reason.

Other Thoughts: I dont know why people are saying this board Can't be used with an FX-8350. I've been using these 2 together since this rig was built and i've never had an issue. I don't overclock so I cant give any feedback there.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to use UEFI options, cheap

Cons: Less than adequate VRM, no on-board USB3 header

Other Thoughts: Good for a budget gaming build, but do not expect to go crazy with overcocking.

I can't get my FX-6300 over 4.2 without the system randomly rebooting or having stability issues. The G46 is just a G45 with beefier VRM heatsinks. No amount of cooling can correct a flaw in the VRM chips.

If you want to overclock then go with a 990FX motherboard, otherwise this would do just nicely.

FX-6300 @ 4.2
Cooler Master Hyper D92
G.Skill Sniper 4GB DDR3-1600 x2 @ 1866
XFX AMD Radeon HD 6770
