All Solid Capacitors

Capacitors are the most important component for electronic product's power supply. The quality of the capacitors can impact the stability of the entire system and risk of product failure. Currently there are two types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Compared to electrolytic capacitors, solid capacitors have a longer lifespan, and provide a more stable power under high temperatures. More importantly, solid capacitors do not have any liquid materials inside, and thus will not suffer a leak which would infringe upon the product's stability. With such benefits is it no wonder that solid capacitors are very important for product quality's improvement.

APS (Active Phase Switching)

Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI's motherboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor's loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.

1 out of 5 eggsDisregard my other review...

Pros: Was okay while it lasted

Cons: Well... My board didnt even last through the warranty... I have to reset the bios to even boot now. Which is really annoying since i have two GPU's and must take out the bottom one to reset the bios. I have two ssd's in raid and i have to say: MSI really botched it in their raid. Spent two hours getting mad at windows for not booting when it was the MOBO. I'm about to snap the board in half and send it back to MSI and demand my money back for something they promised and clearly did not deliver.

Other Thoughts: i can't swear on the review...

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsGood overall

Pros: Awesome price
Does what i want it to do except for sound.
The color goes nicely with my blue LED lighting in my tower.

Cons: shortly after running for a year(year was last month), the onboard sound card went out.
1. 2 front usb ports can't be used together (plug something in 1, the other isn't recognized)
2. When the sound card went out, this also knocked the front jacks for my Mic & audio out- When you plug headphones/mic into the ports, says i plugged them into the back jacks

Other Thoughts: Luckily, i can afford another board right now or else i would be more irritated right now.

4 out of 5 eggsGood overall, if you know how to do anything

Pros: Great board if you know what you're doing. Best UEFI I've ever used, and has many options with clear explanations with the help buttons that tell you what somethings are. Could help out newbies. Works great with SLI.

Cons: Heat issues. This board if you don't know what you're doing has heat issues. This board is advertised and even has it written in the specifications as being only compatible with 95w processors. So please read before you purchase.

The heatsink below the cpu socket gets HOT. And I mean really hot. To the point of not being able to be touched. I believe this portion of the board was overlooked, and is probably the problem with many people's rigs. It gets too hot, and the chip under it dies.

My other complaint is No USB 3 for front panel.

Other Thoughts: This board has issues with CPUs that are above 95w. It states it in the manuals, it states it in the specifications on this page. There's even only 95w CPUs in the processor compatibility list. People need to READ before pressing the purchase button.

This board is a revision or upgrade from the 970-G43. Peice for peice it's dang near Identical. The only difference between the G43 and the G46 is the heatsink on the VRMS to the left of the CPU socket. They did this because the G43 had TERRIBLE problems with the VRMs dying. They should have put a heatsink on the VRMs above the CPU socket also. Because of this, I would suggest a case with a fan on the side panel that blows over the motherboard. That solved ALL of my heat issues with this motherboard.

Read specifications and compatibility lists people! It's not that friggin hard!

Also, to use ANY FX processor, you need to update the BIOS. Period! This is also stated in the manual, and in the specifications!! READ! IT'S NOT THAT FRIGGIN HARD!!

5 out of 5 eggsFirst new build

Pros: -good set up( sata ports 6 in total)
-FX-6300 mated well, posted first boot no issues
-UFEI is a nice feature, very easy to navigate
- over a year and no issues as of yet.

Cons: -the board it self seems a bit flimsy
- tight space for jumpers and USB.
-

Other Thoughts: I would purchase a MSI MoBo again, and recommend it to others. This was my first ground up build, and has been a solid machine for over a year now. I just ordered a new power supply and R9-270 card, the one that came with this combo is not meeting my needs any more. Besides the newer power supply has a 10 year warranty, and when I build another rig I can use again.

Pros: works fine and stays cool. easy overclocks.

Cons: after about 6 months of heavy use it finally started going. It no longer detects my ram as 1866 and will not go to 1866 at all.

1 out of 5 eggsSata Ports Failed, BSOD, Driver Issues

Pros: None

Cons: After 4 months of owning this board the Sata ports went out one by one every 1-3 days. I'm down to the last two ports which have lasted about a week now.

Problems with Logitech drivers for G35 once upgrading to this motherboard.

Bios auto overclock never has worked right for me and always got blue screens.

Putting windows to sleep makes PC Case light BLINK. Ridiculously annoying.

Eventually sleep stopped working and would bluescreen when attempted. Probably a driver conflict of some sort.

They don't let you download drivers independently and install, they make you use their update tool which doesn't even work correctly.

CPU: Phenom 2 x6 1100T and RAM: GSkill 16GB 1600 PC3-12800 (800MHz), GPU: NVidia GeForce 560 GTX SLI and PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W

Other Thoughts: MSI tech support is impossible to reach. You will never get through. Eventually after all the pressing buttons and waiting it goes to someones voice mail box everytime. They expect you to email them with tons of information.

Through email they agreed to refurbish it but I have to take it out of my system and send it back first. What a waste of time and money. So in the meanwhile I have to purchase ANOTHER motherboard to get by, because who knows if they'll take 1-4 weeks. Save yourself the headaches and go with Gigabyte or Asus.

This is the 2nd time I bought an MSI product that I regret. Never again.

1 out of 5 eggsdoes not do raid on windows 8.1

Pros: it was cheap.

Cons: no overclocking what so ever without heating up the vrm to it's max, no front usb 3.0, and I contacted the support number and even he said that there is no raid driver for this motherboard with windows 8 or 8.1 only 7 and people have said that that driver dose not even work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Sorry for the trouble and confusion, we have supported RAID drivers for window 8,
Please kindly email us at usreview@msi.com to obtain driver or contact our support team directly at 626-271-1004 (M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific Time).

4 out of 5 eggsNeeds update out of box with FX CPUs

Pros: Nice color scheme. Supports multiple GPUs. Can handle FX 8 core CPUs (with update and undervolting).

Cons: Received a board with a very early BIOS version. Tried installing a FX 4130 and was getting no display/ no post or BIOS but all fans spinning and everything else seemed fine (4130 thought would work right out of the box). kept reading and reading and a lot of people were using 4130,4300,6300,8320 without an update so I tried replacing every other component and was going to DOA the board but bought a sempron 145 cheapest am3+ cpu I could find. Everything boots right up and ran live update 6 to update mobo BIOS and now running a undervolted FX 8320 with no probs.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to use a FX CPU make sure you ask which BIOS your board will ship with or have a older AM3+ CPU ready to update board.

FX 8320 and 8350 will run just fine without overheating VRMs as long as you undervolt your CPU. Google it, very simple process without affecting performance.

3 out of 5 eggsDied after 2 years :(

Pros: Never had a chance to push the board to max potential. Great while it lasted tho.

Cons: Crapped on me after 2 years usage.. never pushed the board.. only net surfing..

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you described, many reasons can cause the situation like this. We suggest you try the following steps:
1. Power down system, test with minimum components (1 stick of ram, video, CPU power supply).
2. Clear cmos, verify that you have both main 24pin JPRW1 and 12volts JPWR2 ATX power connectors connected.
3. If possible verify a different memory stick, power supply etc.
For additional troubleshooting and information on our 3 years warranty services please feel free to contact MSI team directly for assistance at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific Time.
