3 out of 5 eggsMisleading Specification... but still half decent

Pros: Decently equipped, better than most other 970 mobos. UEFI BIOS is fairly simple to navigate. Most, if not all, other 970 boards with 2 graphics slots run x16/x4, which can bottleneck top-end video cards.

Cons: - 1 egg for PCI-E Specification: The Description says the PCI-E slots run at x16 and x8 separately, when in fact the slots work as x16 single or x8/x8 double. Not a major bottleneck, nor should it be a deal breaker, but it also is not what is advertised.

- 1 egg for SATA slot placement: SATA ports 1 and 2 are in line with the 2nd PCI-E slot and will be blocked by any PCI-E card longer than 7". Not even right angle connectors allow these ports to be used. The edge ports on this board are also in an awkward spot between the video slots, so if you need to change or add a cable, you will most likely have to remove at least one of your video cards if you run two GPUs. Most inconvenient.

If I could, I would dock half an egg for this mobo NOT having a selectable boot numlock status in the BIOS. Definitely annoying since it is locked ON. First one I have ever come across without this setting. I have suggested to MSI support this needs to be added with the next BIOS revision, but I'm not holding my breath.

Also the CPU Fan Header is placed in such a way, it blocks the use of some screw-mounted heatsinks. (Silverstone NT07 for example). If it was 1/4" further away, it wouldn't be an issue. Stick to standard AM3+ bracket heatsinks and you should be ok.

Other Thoughts: As far as AM3+ goes, this board should go the distance for most users. Really, the only things worth spending more money for would be a USB 3.0 header or double x16 slots. Some 970 boards have the header, but none have a better PCI-E Lane configuration. You won't find a board with both of those upgrades unless you jump up to a 990FX.

If you can fit an ATX board in your box and the extra $20 or $30 in your budget, it's worth the splurge instead of cheaping out on a 760 mobo.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: Easy to set up. Spiffy BIOS. I am using with an AMD Phenom II 1090T Six-Core Processor 3.2GHz (has AM3 socket) and this board accepted it beautifully. Supports CrossFire and SLI. This board runs fantastically with Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit.

Cons: No USB 3.0 Headers, I remedied this issue by purchasing a Vantec USB 3.0 PCI Express Card Model #: UGT-PC345. I also had to move my Graphics Card to the top PCI Express x16 port because the SATA1 and SATA2 ports were in the way. If you plan using Crossfire or SLI, be aware you may not be able to use the 1st 2 SATA ports.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit (Installed on 256GB SSD)
MSI 970A-G46 Motherboard
AMD Phenom II 1090T Six-Core Processor (3.2 GHz, OC to 3.4GHz)
G-Skill 8GB (4x 2GB) DDR3 1600 RAM
MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 Graphics
Vantec UGT-PC345 (USB3 card)
256GB Crucial M4 2.5 SSD
750GB Western Digital 2.5 7200rpm HDD
3TB Western Digital 3.5 7200rpm HDD
OCZ ZT Series 750W PSU

I have a base score of 7.5 on my WEI (Processor and RAM). 7.9 on the rest!

I seen where some are having trouble with their processor not accepting CPU's that requires a lot of wattage, mine runs great at 125w. If you have issues powering on, it may be your PSU and not even your CPU. Also make sure your POWER SW header is plugged in to the right header shown in included manual, and soldered good in the case itself. If the above doesn't work, Power cycle and as ridiculous as this sounds, make sure it is plugged in. Yes I have been a victim of this and try other outlets when troubleshooting.

4 out of 5 eggsLoving MSI!

Pros: Got this for my first home build paired with an FX-6300. Board has a nice layout and runs at 29C at all times.

Cons: Doesn't have a hookup for front USB3.0. After about a month of ownership we had an issue with the board not being able to connect to the HDD and find my OS (Windows 7). Tried re-installing OS w/o any luck thought it was a bad HDD got a new HDD ran into the same issue. Tried yet another HDD got everything to work. Had the same issue about a month later. Tried messing with the PSU still not the issue, come to find out I had a bad stack of SATA ports, tried updating bios didn't help, finally changed ports and everything has been fine since. Not worth an RMA in my opinion.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 15 months took out PSU

Pros: Worked well with FX-6100 for 15 months. Good performance, nice feature set.

Cons: Died after 15 months. Killed power supply. Moved CPU, RAM and GPU to another board successfully (so probably not power supply).

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing to say the least.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Poor bios and driver support, terrible quality. Avoid this board like the devil if you plan to do serious gaming.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board expecting decent performance and thought it would last for a few years at least. Before this, I used Asus and Gigabyte boards, and never had any issues.

Well, I didn't even get more than 1.4 years out of it, and the board just died on my suddenly one day. Before hat, it had poor bios and driver updates, and had a a few significant conflicts which made gaming difficult to enjoy.

Do yourself a favor, spend a little extra money and get a better motherboard, preferably an Asus one.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
