2 out of 5 eggsAlmost hit 3 years

Pros: Worked great, when it worked..easy bios to navigate and oc genie

Cons: Usb's started to go, sound was always a hassle. Eventually got the dreaded boot loop, computer restarted faster then I could get an error number from debug (Clearing cmos did not work). In fighting Mobo to get it working I managed to stress test all other parts. Replaced this with Asrock Z77 extreme4 and my testing was correct no issue with other parts. When flashing Z77A-GD65 high chance of accidentally corrupting bios profile, have to be extra careful.

Other Thoughts: Won't go msi again seeing how the mobo slowly creeped issues in for the past 2 years. Don't have the option to rma as I can't find box, don't want to deal with refurbished either.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valuable Customer,
Sorry to hear about the issue you reported. Before considering an RMA can you check following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected firmly, clear CMOS.
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If possible do a clean install of window and update drivers for best result. www.MSI.com
4. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

Thanks for choosing MSI

5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard

Pros: Great functionality
Lots of room for upgrades
Any PC parts that aren't red and black are a plus.
Dual DOS profiles via on board switch in case one fries.

Cons: One DOS profile shorted or something, corrupted boot sequence, no easy workaround without reinstalling windows.
The bottom two PCI-E slots are close together so you can't fit 3 GPUs. The PSU sits too high for anything to fit in the bottom PCI-E slot.

Other Thoughts: I bought this mobo because it was not only affordable but also has 3 pci-e slots, however I was a bit disappointed when I learned that it can really only hold 2 gpu's due to space. The OC genie is awesome, took my i7 3770 from 3.4 to 4.1ghz in literally the push of a button.
Black and blue colors are a plus.
2.5 years later this mobo is in perfect working order, minus one corrupted dos profile on profile switch A. I don't know if it was windows 7 that imploded or a mobo issue.

1 out of 5 eggsScrew this, I will no longer purchase some cheap made in china board

Pros: Solid features, lots of space, 3 pciex16 slots where you wont fit todays gpu on the 3rd slot unless you have a custom fan attached.

Cons: This board is junk, msi is junk, made in china products are junk. Bought this board and the 2nd pci express slot was not working. Looked it up online and I wasn't the only one with this issue. Many had the same issue and it was due to some faulty b-s thx to Chinese manufacturers who made this junk.

Thx msi for making flush down a 150$ into your company's toilet so you can manufacture more made in china junk and sell it to other customers.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsIt was the perfect motherboard... it will be missed

Pros: Perfect blue colors and matching lighting. very well set up. LOTS of options wow. good sound system. good bios, you can do just about anything and everything with this motherboard. Ive had this in my computer for well over 2 years now and the beast is still going strong with no signs of giving up.

Cons: I didn't take off an egg for this motherboard simply because the only issue I have with it is really not its fault, but with intel, which is the limitations they put on their cpu compatibility. the only reason I have to replace this mobo (and I REALLY don't want to because its absolutely perfect and amazing), is because I want to upgrade my cpu to the i7-4790. but thanks to intels way of doing things, they are forcing me to by an entirely different motherboard. I may not be a chip designer, but even I can tell this is clearly a marketing ploy. and a real jerk thing to do at that. their is no reason why the newer cpus couldn't be designed to also be backwards-compatable to at least SOME degree. aside from its socket, this motherboard literally has almost all of the most current features youd usually see in the latest average enthusiast mobo and in many respects, is still a highly advanced mobo. even in todays respects. I could even drop the latest graphics card like the gtx 980 in this sucker if I wanted without issue. yet I cant do the same with a cpu?? they are BOTH processors. one Is just simply dedicated to graphics. seriously. its absolutely stupid. these parts are waaay too expensive to play that kind of game.... RIP z77a-gd65. you will indeed be missed.

Other Thoughts: if youre getting a 1155 cpu for your setup, you cant go wrong with this one. over 2 years and its still going strong for me. and if you have a clear side case or open your computer up a lot, its a beautiful machine to look at. very well designed, very functional, and affordable.

3 out of 5 eggs2 years later

Pros: Was a shining beacon for reasonable price mother boards.

Cons: After 2 years of faithful service it decided to give up the fight.

Other Thoughts: Despite the 3 eggs it has nothing to do with how it worked when indeed it did. Running a 3770k 4.3ghz at least 16hrs a day 4 SSDs in Raid zero for boot, 2 WD RE 1tb In raid for storage and back up of boot, 2x 7970Ghz edition GPUs and it was glorious. But, shut it down to go to work in the morning and failed to boot when I came home in the evening, was not a dignified death either while trouble shooting would POST every once in a while giving hope and then go into a pre-post loop where it would turn itself off and on, it even booted to windows and promptly blues screened and back to pre-post loop.... shame to see it suffer, after determining definitively it was indeed the board, I buried it in the yard with a small service complete with a man playing Taps on a trumpet, no clue who that guy was but it added gravity to the scene so I let it go. All the joking aside it was a stellar performer but in the end can not say 2 years is acceptable regardless of the price and with a mysterious problem with my registration which means they couldn't careless and would not be able to help me out makes me slightly bitter. Here's the rub though, in the 12 years or so I have been working on and building computers I have had this or a similar situation happen with all the motherboard companies and not just Asus, MSI and Gigabyte but also EVGA, BFG, DFI, ASrock, Biostar, Intel. So I can't bash MSI for QC but I can for terrible support of there warranty. I can't say to stay away from MSI because they make great mother boards, and as long as you don't have to deal with customer support (or tech support as I have heard although have never needed them) Just be prepared for mind numbing, hair pulling, air punching frustration.

3 out of 5 eggsIt was great...while it worked

Pros: Worked flawlessly and met all my expectations for the better part of a year and a half.

Cons: After that, it began to stop booting. Now it's dead. What a shame.

2 out of 5 eggsgood while it worked

Pros: Of the 4 RMAed motherboards I have gotten 2 of them worked for a total of probably around a year.

Cons: Had 3 or 4 failed motherboards and RMAs.

Other Thoughts: Still waiting on another RMA.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Board Ever

Pros: I received this board on time and even before I opened it I was impressed, It was not a lite board like some others I have ran across. After opening the package and looking at the documentation I was really happy the instructions where clear and precise I have built a few PC's in my time but was new to the newer equipment. I seen some bad reviews on here and it almost scared me away but I am glad I did other research and after a long search I decided on this . I had a REALLY easy built putting this into my Blackhawk case and am also happy with it. I do not overclock but do game and don't see a need. I run it about 8 to 12 hours a day and have had it 5 months now and have had NO problem . The BIOS is so much better then my old p4 and a lot better then some other PC's I see. I am going with MSI video card next It will not be EVGA because they kept returning a dead card to me 5 times over I have never had a problem with MSI . GREAT PRODUCT . Anyone building a pc my advice is simple make SURE!!! you do not let static get to your components I have seen so many so called TECHS fry their build doing it on carpet not using a wrist strap or anything. I ground myself out and do my build in my non carpeted kitchen. I seen some bad reviews and have told people about this board and 3 others have used it and have had no problems . More advice I only put in the drivers I hate that bloat ware and I don't use live update I put in windows then did bios update and drivers through their website witch also was nice and simple . I also LOVE the L.E.D. it shows CPU temp and their is also a row of status L.E.D's both can be turned off I do believe . Stable and fast and low power consumption . Thanks MSI!!!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Those having problems had a bad one or they did a bad job my experience is there will always be some bad products come out of a factory but when it comes to PC building it is usually due to excitement and not taking time to read and also like I said static electricity.
