  • newegg Military Class II The perfect trinity of quality, stability and efficiency all exist at one mainboard to meet end user expectations. The MSI Military Class II series products provide the long lifespan, unparalleled quality, extreme performance and ultimate efficiency. Insisting on the best stability, MSI utilizes Hi-c CAPs on Military Class series. Made of the rare element Tantalum, often used on space shuttles and satellites, which sustains very high temperatures and shows an amazingly high electrical conductivity. The super Ferrite Chokes use a Ferrite core that is Super-Permeable. Compare with traditional choke, the Super Ferrite Chokes run at a 35 degree Celsius lower temperature. The lower working temperature will enhance mainboard stability. For providing the highest quality products, Solid CAPs are also built in the entire Military Class series. This not only makes bursting capacitors a non-issue but also ensures a dramatically extended lifetime and ultra-low ESR.
  • newegg DrMOS In order to provide customers stable and high quality products, starting from P45 series mainboards, MSI is leading the industry to introduce the world's most advanced power supply component, DrMOS (Driver-MOSFET), which integrates Driver IC, Top MOSFET and Bottom MOSFET into one chip. Except for its outstanding performance in power saving, DrMOS possesses switch frequency which is 400% faster than traditional MOSFET and has great improvement in stabilizing power supply and voltage control. Even under heavy loading and overclocking conditions, DrMOS can still provide the most stable and efficient power supply and quality.
  • newegg OC Genie II – Overclock & Unlock CPU Core in 1 Second OC Genie II, the most powerful and easy overclocking technology is implemented on MSI's AMD 9-Series mainboards. MSI's OC Genie II completely automates advanced overclocking functions and offers up to 248% higher performance with the simple click of a button. It does not matter if you're a first time hardware owner, or a veteran overclocker, activating MSI OC Genie II will unlock your hidden CPU cores, overclock your CPU and your memory to simply give you the best and stable performance for free on MSI AMD 9-Series mainboard available.
  • newegg APS (Active Phase Switching) Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s mainboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.
  • newegg USB 3.0 & SATA III Compared to the 480Mbps provided by traditional USB 2.0, the all-new USB 3.0's 5Gb/s offers 10 times the transfer bandwidth, so transferring a Blu-ray movie takes less than one minute. MSI also has implemented a front panel USB 3.0 port, making the use of an external USB 3.0 device even more convenient. SATA 6Gb/s provides double the bandwidth of traditional SATA 3Gb/s, and increases the data transfer rate between your mainboard and internal storage devices, such as 7200RPM HDDs, 10000RPM HDDs and SSDs. It’s also the current trend for upcoming high-speed internal storage devices to break the existing bottleneck of a PC’s performance.
  • newegg AMD CrossFireX & NVIDIA SLI AMD CrossFireX / NVIDIA SLI technology allow two or more discrete graphics cards to work in concert in one computer system for scalable gaming performance. With these technology, the traditional graphics limitation exists no more, bringing your gaming to a new level of smooth and realism.

2 out of 5 eggsNot so great

Pros: overall performance specs are fine

Cons: this thing is just weird. after owning it about a year, it started losing connection to my USB devices. i got an RMA refurb and the problems with that one are as follows: sometimes it takes forever for the BIOS to load up. once while in BIOS, I saw a strange pixilation on the screen. another time, it froze in BIOS. also, I have an unlockable CPU that this mobo won't unlock. Furthermore, MSI support is bad.

Other Thoughts: I reviewed this product when I first bought it. I didn't I would have so many problems with it.

5 out of 5 eggsI love it !

Pros: I have a review here already & I love the features on this Mobo.
I just wanted to add that I'd love to see a new Mobo just like this one, with the same features for AMD+ FX CPU compliant for use with DDR 4 :)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm waiting for MSI to have a new Mobo with the same features as this one for AMD FX CPU's & DDR 4 compliance.

5 out of 5 eggsTons of features

Pros: I will state some things not mentioned in specs, pictures, and reviews.

Northbridge, southbridge, and CAPS between CPU and I/O panel have SLOTTED HEAT SINKS. Air flow cools these areas nicely.

Northbridge has a HEAT PIPE!

CPU phase LED's are bright blue. Don't like? You can disable them in BIOS.

Power /reset buttons on the board so you can turn on while prepping your build.

power /led pin things help a TON when wiring front panel

CPU temp / POST code LED's on board, your can see it if your case has a side window

Clear CMOS on I/O panel (back)

SATA /USB 3.0 are sideways, point to case wire management holes

Total of FIVE (one is CPU fan) fan headers that you can control with MSI Control Center software. If you set Target Temp in BIOS, first three are AUTOMATICALLY CONTROLLED and software is not required

Three different SLI / crossfire bridge cables

USB 3.0 bracket if your case doesn't have it

SATA cables have clips

Cons: Limited Fan control.

MSI Control center software does not have an auto-load your saved settings. You have to open it and load your settings file.

However, you can setup BIOS to control three of the fan headers automatically.

You can use a front panel fan controller.

Other Thoughts: - could be pro or con. Optional software. Not required, if you don't like a component, don't install it

- I bought from another site because Newegg was out of stock.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard for me.

Pros: Used an FX 8350 CPU with my build Air cooled with a Cooler Master V8 v2 Heatsink. Gskill Rampage Ram @ 1866 Mhz.
2 GTX 970 GPU's in SLI mode. 2 1TB Raptor HD's in Raid 0 Array.
Ultra 1200 W PSU

Cons: The only Con I've read about is this Mobo does not have many OC options. I never OC anything, so it don't matter to me.
My config runs great

Other Thoughts: I don't understand why this Mobo seems hidden from mainstream advertising. Perhaps because it don't have enough or hardly any OC options,, But it does have OC Genie. I never enabled it.
My system really runs great without any overclocking done & my System rating is 6.4

Pros: Great motherboard, I've had this board for over 2 years now and the performance has been rock solid. Many options and I'm sure I'm not using this board to its full potential. Highly recommended 5 eggs.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate to earlier review

Pros: Worked beautifully when everything operated as advertised.

The blue/black scheme really catches the eye.

Cons: Where to begin?
Bought this in June 2014...

USB failure - September 2014: I had to change around USB peripherals to get things to work correctly. It would seemly work correctly and an inconsistent (I literally wrote down every time it happened) amount of time would pass and I'd have to mess around to get it to work.

FF code - Feb 2015: Oh the dreaded FF code.
The board simply no longer wanted to play. Wouldn't post. No bios. No options. Nothing, not even a blue screen. Saw that It was FF'd and did a bit of research on my laptop. Tried everything including swapping parts into a known good comp. All parts worked perfectly. Tried to submit an RMA and was promptly spoken to in their message board as if I was a small child who had no business near a comp. After I was able to RMA the board. (Took longer than I wanted but finally spoke to a person and quickly made it happen), it returned quickly. (under 2 weeks). Installed everything, posted and windows came up. An update later and a power down was all it took.
Dreaded FF code #2....Did everything round 2. reset CPU and got it to post. Once it powered down the FF code reset CPU game became really irritating. I am now waiting on my second RMA to see where it leads me.

Other Thoughts: Once I spoke to a real person, I was able to quickly RMA the first board. When the second board died and I tried to contact MSI about it, I received no reply.

I really want to like MSI, yet this makes the third expensive (not including the second version of this board) MSI board I've had to fail on me while my el cheapo board keeps on chugging by. Maybe time for a switch.

2 out of 5 eggsBeen kind of a nightmare....

Pros: Looks good
Decent layout
Works great when I can keep one that works...

Cons: Warranty just ran out and this is my 3rd or so RMA, I forget seeing as how I've had to replace this thing so many times. First one died because the BIOS wouldnt update, next one just all out quit with no boot at all, turned on power and nothing but fans running. Now this one is only allowing 8gb RAM of my 16gb installed as usuable and I cant change to ganged mode in BIOS. Plus with the last 2 of these boards Im constantly getting the audio device plugged/unplugged notification, updated drivers, got them directly from realtek and from MSI, nothing will make it stop. Also if I restart from windows it will not boot, gets to MSI logo screen and stops, have to do a hard reset.

Other Thoughts: Build is this board with the following:

FX-8370 Black Edition
16GB Kingston HyperX
Zalman liquid cooler
OCZ Vertex 4 SSD
1TB WD Black HDD
640GB WD Black HDD

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: Easy to install and use.
Impressive BIOS build.
Runs cool.
Has seen multiple upgrades and runs like a champ.
Makes an amazing Motherboard for a budget build, nothing has failed to date *Owner for almost 3 years now.
Amazing performance with Phenom II and FX CPUs.

Cons: AMD builds are outclassed right now by Intel builds.
If you want the best of the best, look somewhere else.

Other Thoughts: I have really enjoyed this MSI motherboard, so much that when I went to build a PC for my parents I went with MSI again, 970A-G43, also performs great.
Easy installation and no problems getting your new PC up and running.

4 out of 5 eggs2 Years Laster

Pros: Overall Great Motherboard.
I haven't messed with overclocking much as I really have never seen the need to. Every game I play on it works great.

Cons: 2 DIMM slots gave out after 2 years. Had to drop my ram from 32gb to 16gb. Glad it still works with RAM in DIMM 3 & 4.

Other Thoughts: Contacted MSI and said I have 3 year warranty on it. Gave me directions to send back and they will fix, repair, or replace. Can't complain about that. Glad I built another PC so I wont be without while I wait. Still using it at this moment until I get everything backed up.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: Inexpensive
Easy install
Easy OC
Runs cool

Cons: Will not update after about a year or so
If using a large CPU cooler, be careful with the RAM, make sure it is LP or it will not fit

Other Thoughts: Had this MOBO since it came out, had issues with first setup and had to get bios direct from MSI. Other than that, it will no longer update with MSI's programs.

Overall : 8/10
