  • newegg Military Class II The perfect trinity of quality, stability and efficiency all exist at one mainboard to meet end user expectations. The MSI Military Class II series products provide the long lifespan, unparalleled quality, extreme performance and ultimate efficiency. Insisting on the best stability, MSI utilizes Hi-c CAPs on Military Class series. Made of the rare element Tantalum, often used on space shuttles and satellites, which sustains very high temperatures and shows an amazingly high electrical conductivity. The super Ferrite Chokes use a Ferrite core that is Super-Permeable. Compare with traditional choke, the Super Ferrite Chokes run at a 35 degree Celsius lower temperature. The lower working temperature will enhance mainboard stability. For providing the highest quality products, Solid CAPs are also built in the entire Military Class series. This not only makes bursting capacitors a non-issue but also ensures a dramatically extended lifetime and ultra-low ESR.
  • newegg DrMOS In order to provide customers stable and high quality products, starting from P45 series mainboards, MSI is leading the industry to introduce the world's most advanced power supply component, DrMOS (Driver-MOSFET), which integrates Driver IC, Top MOSFET and Bottom MOSFET into one chip. Except for its outstanding performance in power saving, DrMOS possesses switch frequency which is 400% faster than traditional MOSFET and has great improvement in stabilizing power supply and voltage control. Even under heavy loading and overclocking conditions, DrMOS can still provide the most stable and efficient power supply and quality.
  • newegg OC Genie II – Overclock & Unlock CPU Core in 1 Second OC Genie II, the most powerful and easy overclocking technology is implemented on MSI's AMD 9-Series mainboards. MSI's OC Genie II completely automates advanced overclocking functions and offers up to 248% higher performance with the simple click of a button. It does not matter if you're a first time hardware owner, or a veteran overclocker, activating MSI OC Genie II will unlock your hidden CPU cores, overclock your CPU and your memory to simply give you the best and stable performance for free on MSI AMD 9-Series mainboard available.
  • newegg APS (Active Phase Switching) Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s mainboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.
  • newegg USB 3.0 & SATA III Compared to the 480Mbps provided by traditional USB 2.0, the all-new USB 3.0's 5Gb/s offers 10 times the transfer bandwidth, so transferring a Blu-ray movie takes less than one minute. MSI also has implemented a front panel USB 3.0 port, making the use of an external USB 3.0 device even more convenient. SATA 6Gb/s provides double the bandwidth of traditional SATA 3Gb/s, and increases the data transfer rate between your mainboard and internal storage devices, such as 7200RPM HDDs, 10000RPM HDDs and SSDs. It’s also the current trend for upcoming high-speed internal storage devices to break the existing bottleneck of a PC’s performance.
  • newegg AMD CrossFireX & NVIDIA SLI AMD CrossFireX / NVIDIA SLI technology allow two or more discrete graphics cards to work in concert in one computer system for scalable gaming performance. With these technology, the traditional graphics limitation exists no more, bringing your gaming to a new level of smooth and realism.

1 out of 5 eggsBios unstable

Pros: Well organized BIOS

Cons: Only worked for 15 hours. This was a replacement, for a board with dying SATA controllers. Most of the 15 hours was spent recovering & copying data from the old boot drive to a new one. Finished that & was in the command line reinstalling things with corrupted files. When it just shut off. It hasn't stayed running for very long since. I have tested cpu, ram, psu & video card in an other machine. All work just fine. The only way to get it to boot is to reset the bios & use just one stick of ram. And it would stay on for less and less time. It also stopped beeping on post. Heck if you take out the ram it doesn't beep if you try to boot it. The BIOS is unstable is the best I can figure. At this point it will only stay on for a few seconds before it shuts itself off.

Other Thoughts: This is a video editing machine, with a Phenom II 960T all 6 cores running stable at 3800mhz. 2 sticks of G.Skill Sniper ddr3-1600 PC3-12800 4gig, GT220 video, Antech 650 watt psu. With Debian Wheezy 64bit as the os. Or at least that was the setup on the previous board. Never got to see the gui on this one.

1 out of 5 eggsBAD

Pros: nice looking board, big space between two video cards, easy install for all wires

Cons: random restarts and bsod with different codes until they started repeating. all the same components from the last msi board (970a-g46) worked perfectly and are back on that board again with no issues. couldnt adjust anything in the bios. i have my 8350 at 4620mhz and on this board i couldnt get it to run stable at stock speed.

Other Thoughts: dissapointed. doing a replacement for the same board but if the next one is faulty im gonna be really mad having to pay again to send it. so now the replacement board is gonna be over $200 sicne i have to pay to ship back the bad board.

2 out of 5 eggsPretty but flawed

Pros: Solid feel, sleek, good layout and great included extras. The USB 3.0 add-on was nice. The SATA cables were a welcome addition as well as this allowed me to have all the internal cable match.

Cons: Under documented manual and no second power plug for Crossfire GPU setup or power hungry CPUs.

Other Thoughts: This board appears to have it all. Good price, great features and components that are build to last. Sadly for my build this was not the case. Had a heck of a time getting this board to be stable. Adding voltage to the CPU was able to bring the stability up to a better level but still it wasn't usable day to day. This shouldn't be needed on a stock setup. Overclocking was never tried since at stock configurations the system was unstable. I reserved my review until I tried another board. The other board works great at stock and overclocked speeds so the issue isn't with PSU, CPU, GPU or RAM. Newegg was great to work with to RMA this item.
One thing that I did notice that could be important was this board does not have additional power plugs for the CPU or GPU. So if you have a top end AM3+ CPU, it could be a power draw issue. Having the extra 4 port power may help with this. Also, with no extra power port for the GPU setup, crossfire may also suffer.
The new board that I got has both of these additions and they call out the need to have them plugged in if you do multi-GPU or overclock setups.
My issues are related to my setup only and other hardware or builds may be ok with this board. If you build it up and it's unstable, it could be a power delivery issue like the one appeared to have.
As reference, my CPU is an FX-8350 BE, PSU is a 850watt bronze certified, DDR3 1866 RAM and 2 R9 270X graphics cards.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: The included software is very handy and is totally 2014. Meaning it doesnt leave any stone left unturned regarding how the mobo runs and the analysis of your system. The Reset and Overclocking buttons are great.

Cons: Only thing I didnt like is that my cooler radiator covers one of the fan power sockets.

Other Thoughts: This is possible one of the best mobos I have purchased. MSI is always cutting edge company this is my 3rd one and every one of them each year gets better. Only drawback is MSI gets picky about what kind of memory you use.

5 out of 5 eggsSecond time a bliss!

Pros: Works perfectly now with my FX 8350 OC 4.4GHz (OC Genie)

Cons: Had to RMA the first one, Rebate is only 15 days to submit.

Other Thoughts: MSI, offering a rebate is nice however 15 days to complete it and send it, really? How about 30 days like everyone else next time?

When you have to test and RMA the board, the turn over is more than 15 days, hence I didn't even bothered to send my rebates after 18 days to see it rejected. Really shady practice on your part, shame on you!

So even with the $10 rebate loss, I keep the board as it seems to play well with my other components and seems to perform as it should however my next upgrade will probably go to another brand who offers at least 30 days for rebate.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI & Newegg FTW!

Pros: Board layout is pretty nice. Lots of fan headers! Tons of space around the CPU terminal. Bios setup quick and simple. Board posted on initial startup, and I have had no issues.

Cons: The new generation graphics cards are huge dual slot monsters. The fan/heat-sink shrouds on these cards are also huge. When cross-firing on this board, the lower card's shroud contacts the header pins on the lower portion of the board. The power/reset/oc buttons as well as the lcd display are completely covered. I had to shave 1/8" of shroud to clear the pins. Cannot take an egg off. We builders do what we have to.

Other Thoughts: Thank you Newegg and MicroStar! I have been purchasing from you both for at least 14 years. I have never received a doa product from either. Both companies have exceeded my expectations for years, and I have never had an issue w/ either company's Tech Support. Keep up the good work. Hey MSI Devs, can you make the ATX boards 1/2" longer on the southern edge? :)

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board!

Pros: Excellent board, have had no problems.
- UEFI BIOS
- OC Genie
- Awesome look
- Great gaming
- Lots of case fan headers (4)
- Debug LED (displays CPU temp after POST)

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Only one small complaint: upon occasion, I get a slight static sound when the board shuts down. Nothing I can't deal with.

1 out of 5 eggsCrash out of the box? Really??

Pros: Nice board and design.

Cons: Using a FX 8350 CPU with Default settings loaded I can't run any load on the computer. Windows experience makes the computer crash... talking about about an experience... pretty bad.

Other Thoughts: The board came with BIOS 13.5 (the latest) and fired up right away. After I installed Windows 7 x64 I tried to run Windows experience and the computer crashed. Same with Prime95. I tried to manually feed the voltage and the computer lasted a bit longer up but ended up to crash. This CPU was working fine on 890fxa-gd70 board so it is probably the board but still, what a pain!
And no, it is not the memory, the PSU or the video card as everything was working fine on the former board and they probably won't release a BIOS upgrade as AMD is not building AM3+ cpu anymore.
So avoid this board and stick with what you have or go to the competitor.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Impresssed

Pros: This is a follow up on a brief review I did two months ago. This board is super stable with my current setup. Conservatively manually overclocked at 4.51Ghz using a CPU ratio of 205x22 and taking the CPU voltage to 1.359V. I have been using my system like this on a daily basis without an issue.

Cons: None so far. Running like a champ!

Other Thoughts: I replaced the old mushkin memory by 16Gb of new G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 and what a difference. Motherboard recognized the memory inmediately after setting the Intel Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) to "Profile 1". This memory overclocks very well too and together with this board you will have a great system tandem.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked Great at First

Pros: This board was really easy to use. The OC genie was good for those new to overclocking. Was able to get an fx 8350 up to 4.7 stable, but going past that was not possible. Probably a due to cpu limitations.

Cons: Has started putting out a high pitched whine. Seemed like overnight it went from incredibly stable to barely stable on auto settings. Look at other thoughts for more info.

Other Thoughts: For the last month or so the motherboard has been acting a little odd. The stability has dropped and i keep getting a high pitched whine. Sometimes it's constant and sometimes it's when i move my mouse. Completely removing my OC and resetting the board won't allow the system to run stable. I have to up the voltages just to get into windows.
My psu is on it's last legs and I am getting a new one, so I'm going to see if that might be a problem. I have reason to believe that it's not putting out enough power for what I have. I will be going from an NZXT pp-800 that is ancient to a new EVGA superNOVA 1000w PSU.
If that doesn't solve the problem, then I'll probably RMA the board.
Many times the manufacturers post onto these reviews, and that's mainly what I hope happens. Maybe they can give me more insight.
