  • newegg Military Class II The perfect trinity of quality, stability and efficiency all exist at one mainboard to meet end user expectations. The MSI Military Class II series products provide the long lifespan, unparalleled quality, extreme performance and ultimate efficiency. Insisting on the best stability, MSI utilizes Hi-c CAPs on Military Class series. Made of the rare element Tantalum, often used on space shuttles and satellites, which sustains very high temperatures and shows an amazingly high electrical conductivity. The super Ferrite Chokes use a Ferrite core that is Super-Permeable. Compare with traditional choke, the Super Ferrite Chokes run at a 35 degree Celsius lower temperature. The lower working temperature will enhance mainboard stability. For providing the highest quality products, Solid CAPs are also built in the entire Military Class series. This not only makes bursting capacitors a non-issue but also ensures a dramatically extended lifetime and ultra-low ESR.
  • newegg DrMOS In order to provide customers stable and high quality products, starting from P45 series mainboards, MSI is leading the industry to introduce the world's most advanced power supply component, DrMOS (Driver-MOSFET), which integrates Driver IC, Top MOSFET and Bottom MOSFET into one chip. Except for its outstanding performance in power saving, DrMOS possesses switch frequency which is 400% faster than traditional MOSFET and has great improvement in stabilizing power supply and voltage control. Even under heavy loading and overclocking conditions, DrMOS can still provide the most stable and efficient power supply and quality.
  • newegg OC Genie II – Overclock & Unlock CPU Core in 1 Second OC Genie II, the most powerful and easy overclocking technology is implemented on MSI's AMD 9-Series mainboards. MSI's OC Genie II completely automates advanced overclocking functions and offers up to 248% higher performance with the simple click of a button. It does not matter if you're a first time hardware owner, or a veteran overclocker, activating MSI OC Genie II will unlock your hidden CPU cores, overclock your CPU and your memory to simply give you the best and stable performance for free on MSI AMD 9-Series mainboard available.
  • newegg APS (Active Phase Switching) Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s mainboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.
  • newegg USB 3.0 & SATA III Compared to the 480Mbps provided by traditional USB 2.0, the all-new USB 3.0's 5Gb/s offers 10 times the transfer bandwidth, so transferring a Blu-ray movie takes less than one minute. MSI also has implemented a front panel USB 3.0 port, making the use of an external USB 3.0 device even more convenient. SATA 6Gb/s provides double the bandwidth of traditional SATA 3Gb/s, and increases the data transfer rate between your mainboard and internal storage devices, such as 7200RPM HDDs, 10000RPM HDDs and SSDs. It’s also the current trend for upcoming high-speed internal storage devices to break the existing bottleneck of a PC’s performance.
  • newegg AMD CrossFireX & NVIDIA SLI AMD CrossFireX / NVIDIA SLI technology allow two or more discrete graphics cards to work in concert in one computer system for scalable gaming performance. With these technology, the traditional graphics limitation exists no more, bringing your gaming to a new level of smooth and realism.

3 out of 5 eggswas expecting better performance

Pros: it worked right out of box, looks great, games do play better[I think because of better networking have slow internet but wow does run smother and able to turn up setting for better gaming], has clear cmos on back panel, mouse worked in bios, last msi board ran for 5 years and still running, on sale

Cons: had a msi K9a2platinum am2+ board before this im doing a slow up grade so im using the 1055t cpu and 2 6950s from that board to this 1 and expected much better performance than I got, almost al benchmarks I have done have much lower scores than with other board when they should be higher. second video card covers oc, power buttons, and clear cmos jumper good thing there is 1 on back panel]. reads my g skill ram at 1333 not 1600 [ram is 2100 so had to do small oc to get to just above 1800. I tried cross fir on top 2 pcie slots first because I forgot to look at witch 1s where x16 after benching it and getting low scores I realized my mistake and moved 2nd card to the right spot and still got same scores. not the biggest con but took over 10 business days to arrive not new eggs fault but I think fedex dropped the ball on this 1

Other Thoughts: if this board performs better with a am3+ cpu than a am3 then it might get another egg

5 out of 5 eggsBest Board I have ever Owned

Pros: This board will take more of a beating and more random abuse of any I have ever seen. It is easy to install, easy to maintain, easy to modify & change the settings to fit your needs, and the hardest I have ever seen to brick (did 3 times now but with the click of a button on the back it dumps all my settings and goes back to factory to post and function normally again.) I did damage the first board and MSI has an amazing warranty, after creating a problem even they have never seen they simply shipped me a refurb board during the RMA and called it a day. This board is almost 2 years old now and hasn’t failed yet. I have placed an AMD 8350 to replace my 4100 and have no problems (turn off all ECO friendly stuff for it to function correctly though.) More ports then I will ever use and side facing SATA ports keep my case looking nice with little effort on my part. Debugging screen will tell me when I need to do something and trouble shoots the board for me so all I have to do is fix what is wrong. I have also placed one in my friend’s desktop, even with little climate control around it, this board will not stop and runs cool even in 95F+ temps.

Cons: The ECO Mode is a good idea in theory but in practice all it does is cripple my 8350 to the point windows only runs long enough for me to enter my password the BSOD becomes my friend. I love the active phase control theory and if it worked I could save a lot on power consumption but it will not phase down or will drop all the way causing large amounts of hang time or BSOD. The drives were a problem but that seems to have been fixed so I place this because I try never to update drivers but was forced into it. Other then thoughs few things, I have never has a hard freeze, BIOS/board failure, ports failure, or any other failure by fault of the board (I have always caused the problem by a setting or change I have made.)

Other Thoughts: Just so everyone knows the setup I am running and how I have acquired my results/opinion. I am running 8350 at 4.2-4.4GHz with stock cooling, 3 HDDs (1TB, 160GB, 120GB), 1 SSD (Corsair GS 256GB), MSI NVidia 660, Corsair AX860W PSU, 3 140mm and 3 120mm Corsair case fans, all in a corsair 900D super tower. This is a large board and the side facing SATA cables and port for USB 3.0 ports means you need at least a full tower but this board is meant to run the FX chips and overall are meant for higher end rigs, not for the small space savers. Please don’t go cheap on the case because you will regret it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board, it seems

Pros: -Seems to work perfectly fine
-Lots and lots of settings that can be changed. I like settings.
-High quality capacitors
-More than adequate chipset cooling (unlike almost every other board out there)

Cons: -Buggy firmware (AMI Aptio, as far as I can tell)
-Set the wrong VCore for my CPU at first (I ended up just manually setting it). This would likely be solved with a firmware update, BUT:
-There is, as far as I can tell, *NO* way to update the firmware if you're running Linux.

MSI: Your M-Flash thing is just about useless if you only provide an .exe file to flash the firmware!

Other Thoughts: I'll have to try running the updater from FreeDOS and see what happens.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 9 months

Pros: I love the board. it works very well and has a lot of OC features. very easy to use and OC. I would give it 5 stars if it didn't just die on me after 9 months. keep getting code FF. and did every trouble shoot possible. and still wouldnt load bios or let me into them.

Cons: died after 9 months. really wish I stuck with asus mobo. tried msi Bc a buddy said they was good. but ends up for me they died faster then asus.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2).
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: Installed easily.

Came with a DVI/VGA adapter, lots of Sata cables, lots of spare hardware, and a USB 2.0 back-panel card for users who don't have 2.0 ports on their case. Nothing was lacking as far as included parts/materials.

I can't say enough how happy I am with the bios. Winki is basically a mobo-based OS, where you can even go online and update drivers/firmware if needed. Click-bios is a windows-based version of the Bios, and the regular UEFI bios is easy to work with. I activated the O.C. Genie, but haven't delved into manually overclocking yet.

The disc has a lot of useful software and very little (if any) bloatware. Supercharger is for quick charging USB devices, and Fast-boot is a toggle-able boot-speed increasing feature.

Every PCI, PCI-e, and RAM slot has been tested and works.

My Cooler-Master oversized PC heatsink bolted on just fine.

The best two features are probably the manual flash button and the error-code LEDs. I bought an Nvidia GTX 660 with this and I had no display. After trying my old 9800 gtx+ again and it working fine, and looked at the error-code LED with the 660 and saw it was giving the code for 'no display device detected', which was 6b or 6d (can't recall which). This helped me confirm my GPU was DOA, and quickly get it in for RMA, rather than put it through additional testing. VERY helpful.

Cons: There can never be too many internal USB 3.0, 1394, or Sata headers, but I knew how many it had before I bought it.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board to replace a damaged Gigabyte for a Phenom II x4 processor. Finding quality AM3 boards with modern internal headers these days is increasingly difficult.

4 out of 5 eggsGood board

Pros: I've had a great experience with this board & pairing it with an FX 8350 CPU. Very high end capacitors & should last a long time

Cons: From personal experience I've needed to set the voltage manually on my CPU & RAM. I think a lot of the negative overall ratings here are based on leavnig all these values to auto & getting BSoDs. I found after setting everything to manual settings everything went fine.

2 out of 5 eggsUsed to be a Great Board

Pros: Great board for over two years. No complaints in all that time.

Cons: About two and a half years after building a brand new computer using this board, the SATA controller failed. Thankfully, it was still under warranty, so I was able to RMA the board to MSI at the cost of $13.xx in shipping, and they shipped me a refurbished board for a replacement.

The refurbished board they replaced it with failed within 24 hours of installation.

Other Thoughts: After failure of the refurbished board MSI sent to replace the original, I gave up and ordered a new board from a different manufacturer. Historically, I have owned two other boards from this other manufacturer, and poor experiences with both boards are the reason I gave MSI a try in the first place, and had been a fan ever since, but now that MSI has failed me, maybe it's time to give this other big-name brand another try.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board!

Pros: Great aesthetics, easy to use, no hardware compatibility issues, and has a long upgrade lifetime. As a first time builder the LED debug monitor was very helpful for diagnosing a couple issues once assembly was complete. I use this in my hardcore gaming/streaming PC and I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase.

Cons: The ONLY bad thing I can say about this is it does not come with documentation for the LED debug codes, and they are not on MSI's website either. I ended up having to call tech support to find out what the codes were for, which although it was a slight inconvenience, their customer service was excellent.
