3 out of 5 eggsmsi G41m-p33 combo

Pros: i recieved my order of a new msi G41m-p33 combo motherboard and found that it delivered on time boots up nice

Cons: when i opened the package with the motherboard i saw everything looked good untill i saw that it had no screws or standoff"s for the motherboard and what i see in the memory slots are combo but you have to buy ddr2 and ddr3 memory so you can get the max of 8gb"s the blue slots are for ddr2 and the black slots are ddr3 you just cant put ddr2through the whole board you have to buy ddr2 and ddr3 for the board to work that is not listed in the info.

Other Thoughts: before you upgrade your mother board make sure it has everything you need for the install and make sure it come"s with screws.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
For your information, screws and standoffs (case accessories) are not provided by the motherboard manufacturers but the case manufacturers.
You can only use one type of RAM but not both of them at the same time.

4 out of 5 eggsCautiously Optimistic

Pros: Mostly easy installation. Interesting ability to accept both DDR2 & DDR3 (but not simultaneously, which I knew beforehand). Driver installation went very smoothly.

Cons: Bad front-panel jumper placement. They're in the bottom-middle of the board. The documentation for this board is lacking, the only way I knew which slots the DDR2 RAM and DDR3 RAM went in was by looking at the board and inferring. (The blue ones are for DDR2, the black ones for DDR3.) I couldn't find the info in the booklet.

Other Thoughts: I bought this as a replacement. While I was at work one day I got a text message from my wife that said "The comp smells like smoke and just shut off". I get home and did some troubleshooting and found the board to be dead. It was also an MSI. I really hope this one doesn't suffer the same fate.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: Motherboard came DOA RMA'd it for an asus p877-z lx best board i ever bought

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
Using a high-end board to compare an entry-level board would be an overkill comparison.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertized! MSI is always my second choice to Asus!

Pros: It will run either DDR2 or DDR3 which is a very smart attribute.
Works as advertised! Open PCI-Express slot for a decent video card! Onboard Lan, onboard video, onboard sound. 4 sata 2 ports and 1 IDE plug in that can be helpful if you have an older IDE DVD-RW like I do.

Cons: Its a Micro ATX board but that's all they make in the socket 775 that you can find new!

I'm so tired of people giving themselves such high tech knowledge marks when they are not even close to that rank!

I'm a level 3 Tech that's worked in the business since 1994. So I am a real 5 egg tech!

This guy rates himself as a 4 egg tech and does not realize that this board has 4 dim slots that are split to run either DDR2 in duel channel mode or DDR3 in dual channel mode!

Please I have not seen one person that has ranked themselves below 3 eggs which is a joke. Some of these techs are building their first real system and they rank themselves at 4 eggs. Please you egocentric so called techs! It took me years of constant experience to get to this knowledge base! Not when I was building my first P.C. It's such a joke and forces everyone else to read between the lines on all these reviews. Shame on you for being so egocentric of your knowledge base!

Other Thoughts: For the guy the gave himself 4 eggs of tech knowledge. Please, really! Your that advanced of a tech and didn't realize that this board had split DDR2 and DDR3 memory slots! Try 2 eggs of tech knowledge my friend!

5 out of 5 eggsseems to work just fine

Pros: well it fired right up , i put ddr2 pc6400 ram in it i had left over so i popped it in connected everything and it works just fine

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I think some people are egging this board due to its combo ddr2 ddr3 type , i think they must be using the wrong ram type and just take their frustration out on the board this is the 10th msi board ive purchased and it works just like the other 9 i have in builds. sure its not as refined in some areas as most Asus boards i have but it still gets the job done. Good job msi keep up pumping out reliable get the job done mobos.

1 out of 5 eggsThe worst motherboard I have owned in 20 years

Pros: It only cost $60 to learn that I will never buy another MSI product

Cons: It starts with the cheap protection of the motherboard socket. This one came with bent pins. I know how to straighten them, got the board to work. on MSI's website they mention overclocking, which is why I bought this board. You won't overclock, anything because MSI forgot to allow you to adjust the Core voltage. You can adjust the memory voltage and 2 other useless voltages that nothing to do with overclocking. Who designed this mess?

The software that comes with the motherboard is horrible. Live update doesn't even work, just google search for "live update msi drive can't load" and you'll see over 1,000,000 results. Personally I feel if a company can't write a simple piece of software that downloads a file they shouldn't be making motherboards at all, they are bit more complicated. Fresh install of windows 7, no excuse for your software to perform so poorly.

Other Thoughts: Their website is no better. Try registering on their forums. Obviously they have never learned how to combat spam because they ask you 5 - 6 Image captcha and math problem questions to prevent spam. The same exact questions that any bot on the internet can automatically solve. Rather than coming up with a reasonable solution they just pass the burden onto the consumer by making them fill out a ridiculous question page just to sign up for a forum.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
This board is limited with overclocking since it's a value product.
In regards to the bent pins, there's $45 replacement fee required due to damages inflicted upon the socket.

2 out of 5 eggsDissapointed

Pros: Accepts both DDR2 and DDR3

Cons: Very picky on memory it accepts and although my memory was the correct speed I could not get it to work. I misunderstood the specs and didn't realize it would only accept 2 dimms of ddr2 or 2 dimms of ddr3 instead of 4 of either ddr2 or 3.
PCI express slot wasn't spaced to where I could fit my larger graphic card and use the slot next to it.
Doesn't have gigabit ethernet.

Other Thoughts: I ended up sending the mobo back. $50 seemed to much for me to fix an older computer when I'd have to purchase new memory and a gigabit ethernet card.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
This product is offered as a flexible upgrade for many users with older processor and DDR2 RAM.
However, it should take a slight sense that you can never mix DDR2 & DDR3 RAM on such motherboards.

The PCIE slot should work fine with any size of graphics card without any issues.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the product, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at usreview@msi.com and we will be more than happy to assist you, thank you.
