The MSI Military Class series products provide the long lifespan, unparalleled quality, extreme performance and ultimate efficiency. Insisting on the best stability, MSI utilizes Hi-c CAPs on Military Class series. 5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: It is a 990FX, has two PCIE 2.0x16, 4 PCIEx1, 1 PCI, 6 SATA III, and lots of usb2 incluidng 2 USB 3. Not problem with post and the UEFI is easy to navigate and inlcudes some hints on what the items are, although some are not too useful. It includes a fast boot for the OS and BIOS and the OC genie can be as easy of detail as you want. I have it in auto.

Cons: Considering the price I paid (after rebate -$59) on black friday/week) and that is a 990FX system with 6 SAT III I cannot complain or provide cons.

Other Thoughts: This is my first build and includes:
MSI 990FXA-GD65; AMD FX6300: 8GB G-Skill Ares DDR3 1600: ZOTAC ZT GEForce GT630: Asus XONAR DG 5.1: Generic DVD; Coarsair CXM 600w power: CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 cooler: Rosewill Challenger ATX mid tower w/3 fans: 1 120 GB SSD : 2 750GB RAID 0 WD Black series hard drives: WIN 8.1- 64.
Set-up was easy and straight forward. The only hiccup was setting the raid but it was not the motherboard fault. I loaded windows first as I have read to disconnect other drives if you want to load in the SSD, then set the RAID and go thru the RAID menu to select the draives. Well this did not work and got a" could not find OS" or smething like that. Checking on what happen found some info that I needed to reload windows as it had to load special drives when using raid mode. I did and all went great after that. System is really fast.. So far think that WIN 8.1 is great and easy to install. Althought there is some getting use to it. At least it allows you to switch to the standard destop view with not problem.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away From This One

Pros: Got it on sale--negated by having to pay for return shipping twice.

Cons: DOA -- twice.

Other Thoughts: Ordered as a replacement for my wife's computer. The first one I received was DOA. I tried multiple power supplies. The most I got out of it was a slight jerk of a case fan and one flash of an LED on the MB. I know any manufacturer can have a bad product get out, so I ordered a replacement. The second board was DOA as well. Apparently MSI had a run of bad product. I won't try them again.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: fantastic board. Love the color scheme and the I/O on the back. 990 chipset means it will run my FX-8320 and out of the box it went right into BIOS. Lots of PCIe 1x slots.

Cons: no onboard usb 3.0 header

Other Thoughts: I am using 2 of the PCIe 1x slots for USB 3.0 cards that have 2 external headers and 1 internal 20 pin so that will take care of all my super speed needs.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdating MY PREVIOUS REVIEW

Pros: I got to admit, after talking to MSI's technical support, 2 of my previous problems were solved:
1) PC speaker is turned out to be pre-programmed to make POST beeps only if there is a problem. And I got convinced in it by myself, even before I spoke to the tech rep. I removed all memory sticks, powered up my pc and almost immediately there happened to be three long beeps, pause, and then two long beeps (if I am not mistaken). The first ones are indeed related to the memory and the second ones to the parity problems (Windows 7 PRO is installed on RAID5).
2) To access BIOS you need to hit del (NOT delete), the button located where the numeric pad is. And the manual righteously says that.

Cons: But now there is another problem:
I forgot to mention that there is only ONE PS/2 port. And I have several computers in my network where 4 of them are concentrated in one area. I can access all of them at the same time, switching back and forth, through the KVM switch. The only problem is that the KVM switch supports only PS/2 connections. So far, in order to use both - keyboard and mouse, I have used already: 1) PS/2 splitter and 2) dual PS/2 to USB adapter. And every time the keyboard is all right and the mouse is not. I am not sure if this problem is directly related to the motherboard. I checked the BIOS and, it seems, that there is no additional instructions needed to be configured to fix this problem. I have a couple of ideas but not sure if they work.

Other Thoughts: Well, once again, I like this motherboard overall. The only thing that is still holding me to give it all 5 eggs is ONE only PS/2 port. This is pretty inconvenient for me.

2 out of 5 eggsLiked it overall, BUT...

Pros: Overall, I like this motherboard. There is a very interesting appearance for BIOS (personally, never seen anything like before). However…

Cons: Internal speaker (or buzzer) was not working from the very beginning, right from the start. And I couldn’t have expected that simple component to be defective. By the way, BIOS (v20.3) was doing some interesting stuff: at first, it was very easy to access when you tap delete etc, but then, after a while, (and it has been like less than a week since I build up my new rig) – it disappears. Every time I hit delete when my pc was booting up, I was being presented with the screen where I had a chance of either choosing to start up Windows 7 or to check the memory. And I couldn’t get into BIOS no matter at all… After going through the reviews that other customers left very carefully and thoroughly, I noticed that these problems have been mentioned already. And I asked Newegg to issue an RMA to replace the board right away. However…

Other Thoughts: I am afraid that my next motherboard will NOT be all right. I guess, it is based on the timeline that two other customers left their reviews. Both of them were at the end of May this year. So, I believe it is somehow related to the MSI’s production line around that time. There will be about 1 week left out of 30 days for the full refund that Newegg guarantees when I get the new board. And what if there are the same problems? What do you want me to do, MSI’s rep?

Manufacturer Response:
