5 out of 5 eggsMSI 990FXA-GD65

Pros: fantastic board. As usual MSI delivers a RELIABLE quality product with features, and more features.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This board is running a server along with an AMD FX8320 CPU, 8GB memory, and 1 and 2TB SATA disks.

This was my second 990FXA board. I fried the first one I bought. When installing it, and forgetting to clip on my ground strap before plugging stuff in and out.
.

I have 3 systems that I built, all with MSI mainboards... and all are still running:
a G41M board has 7 years on it;
a 970A-G43 board which has 4 years steady running,
and this 990FXA which has 8 months running.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard with minor flaws

Pros: I've been using this motherboard for almost 24 hours a day since I got it in December 2014 and it has been working flawlessly. I was worried when I bought it because it didn't say it supported an FX-8350 but thanks to other reviews I took the gamble and it worked fine. I have a stable overclock using OC Genie which made it very easy to overclock.

Cons: There is significant VDroop with this motherboard where the CPU Vcore voltage spikes and drops causing minor instability in higher overclocks. Over volting to 1.480 Voltage solved it for the most part. It became apparent when stress testing that you can't overclock an FX-8350 very high with this motherboard as the board TMPIN1 sensor would go to 80-90C when under full load. This motherboard is really pushed to its limits when pair with an 8350. I couldn't overclock it higher than what OC Genie was able to achieve.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this motherboard to a friend if its on sale. However for the price (129.99) I feel you should choose another motherboard.

3 out of 5 eggsNo USB 3.0 Connection

Pros: Works well

Cons: No 16 pin USB 3.0 Connection to board

Other Thoughts: I ordered this as part of a kit that included tower. Tower had a 3.0 that needs to connect to a 16 pin slot. You would think the Newegg people would provide you know if the tower comes with a USB 3.0 it should have a connection point. I had to buy a device that had the 16 pin blue female connector on the online auction site (funny Newegg would not let me post it because I used the E word). Sorry Newegg but you did not even sell one. Other than the board works great.

1 out of 5 eggsMany Issues and Two Mobo's!!

Pros: Awesome looking package!!! All the bells and whistles one could want from a nice package.

Cons: Well after two mobo's nothing worked!! A+ cert here! And instructor at the collegiate level in computer network and network security. So best bet just avoid this mobo!!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Bradley,
Sorry to hear about the issue you reported. However if you have two boards with same issue. Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you check following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2).
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue, Clear CMOS.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

Thanks for choosing MSI

2 out of 5 eggsNot good for windows ten and can get better one.

Pros: It works... This mother is not for anyone who wants to push there computer or for extreme gaming... There are rarely any drivers out for this product and it already seems to be aging not very well. If you were still to get a 990FXA-GD65, then get the gaming version. AMD mother boards aren't that great over all... But this one isn't very good for its buck... So I suggest you spend at least $20 more.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat motherboard

Pros: amazing motherboard i haven't found a better one yet. this the mobo in my main pc and the one I'm building now all the others I've tried (7 of them) haven't compared to the ease of this one.

Cons: the only thing i have to say about this is the fact there is no usb 3.0 headers, but it still has some in the back so it doesn't bother me so much.

Other Thoughts: like i said I'm about to buy another on of these, well worth the $100

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Board

Pros: Well built little board. Installed quickly and booted right up with no problems. Ample system fan connectors and back USB ports. Runs solidly with no heat issues and no errors. Surprisingly decent on-board audio was a pleasant surprise.

Cons: The BIOS was severely outdated. By over a year. Expect to be updating the BIOS first thing. Lack of an internal USB 3.0 was annoying, but not unexpected. The BIOS setup screen is awful. In my opinion the new graphical layout takes away functionality while adding nothing useful.

Other Thoughts: Overall I'm extremely happy with the board. It works well and has no issues. It supported all my hardware with no problems.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Motherboard

Pros: I have been an MSI customer for the longest time. This one never disappoints. Its a bang for the buck.

Cons: It could use a USB 3 connector for the board but I'm not complaining since it has built in at the back panel

4 out of 5 eggsWorks okay

Pros: Put it in and fired it up. Took care of some I/O errors that were plaguing the old Gigabyte board in this non-geek user machine.

Cons: No real cons so far.

Other Thoughts: I do not like the BIOS interface. It's not like it has the first mouseable BIOS around, and there are so many things you can't do and tweak any more. I suppose everyone is following Microsoft, Norton etcetera in the don't-let-the-customer-have-access-to-everything-in-the-product-they-bought philosophy.
