  • newegg All Solid Capacitors Capacitors are the most important component for electronic product's power supply. The quality of the capacitors can impact the stability of the entire system and risk of product failure. Currently there are two types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Compared to electrolytic capacitors, solid capacitors have a longer lifespan, and provide a more stable power under high temperatures. More importantly, solid capacitors do not have any liquid materials inside, and thus will not suffer a leak which would infringe upon the product’s stability. With such benefits is it no wonder that solid capacitors are very important for product quality's improvement.
  • newegg APS (Active Phase Switching) Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s motherboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Great price, good features, onboard sound, lan, and plenty of usb and sata connectors.

Cons: Would be better if it had 1 or 2 more plugins for case fans.

Other Thoughts: Nice board for building a mid range gaming system.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid board

Pros: I needed a board for my day trading computer and this ended up being my choice. The board holds two GPUs which drive four monitors. I have an old AM3 CPU in this board which is plenty capable for my tasks. I also have a total of 4 SSDs and hard drives connected to the board and there is still 2 more SATA slots available.
The bios menu is pretty cool too.

Cons: Can't think of any cons. It's a solid board.

Other Thoughts: This is my second MSI board. The first one was a cheaper model but is still in use in one of my computers and going on over 6 years of daily usage.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to last review

Pros: Good price vs. performance
Overclocks surprisingly well
I like the BIOS simplicity

Cons: No stock MOSFET cooling

Other Thoughts: This board is handling a mild overclock just fine. The stock AMD CPU cooler exacerbates the heat issues greatly. I replaced my CPU cooler with a Hyper 212 EVO, added 4 120mm fans, 1 140mm fan. All fans are intake except the top 2 120mm fans. (The rear fan is intaking air to blow directly over the MOSFET's)

I overclocked my FX-6300 to 4.2GHZ at 1.31V. stable in Prime95 for 7 hours at 45 degrees celsius on the core and 65 degrees celsius on the board.

All temperatures across the board lowered dramatically, up to 20 degrees cooler on the CPU itself with this cooling setup! I ordered some Enzotech MOSFET heatsinks and may push it further.

This board can handle mild overclocks on six cores just fine, if you do some minor upgrades. I cannot say whether or not an 8 core would be as stable.

How long will the board last while overclocking like this? Couldn't say. I've had desktops and laptops run way, way hotter in stock configuration for 5+ years.

That being said, I would probably have gone with the MSI Gaming 970 motherboard for the heatsink issues noted above -for overclocking-. Again, this is a great board for the everyday user that isn't tweaking their system!

1 out of 5 eggsGravely disappointed

Pros: none seen

Cons: DOA, difficult to install due to motherboard design and lack of mConnectors recommended in the user's manual.

Other Thoughts: With my current setup's failing components, the lack of a functioning motherboard for my upgrade purchases has set back my personal productivity severely and left a bad taste in my mouth for MSI products. I know this may simply be bad fortune with a normally good product, but compensating for this failed component is impacting both my finances and my productive time.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2).
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

1 out of 5 eggsExceedingly disappointed

Pros: cannot post, as it's forbidden by the review guidelines.

Cons: Was not compatible with my original power supply, so I ordered a new one. Installed everything, and it wouldn't even boot to bios.

Recommended use of mConnectors for connecting the front panel components, while not supplying those same mConnectors.

Other Thoughts: After a nearly a week of anticipation and extra cost to ensure I could upgrade my system properly, while my current setup dies a slow death, I admit my experiences are somewhat colored. Being unable to actually use the product I paid for, and then having to pay again to ship it back, I cannot claim to have been endeared to the product.

I am, of course, in the process of addressing this through New Egg. I only hope that other components have not been damaged in attempting to use this one.

4 out of 5 eggsI like this board

Pros: Good layout, has everything I was looking for. Economically priced.

Cons: I don't like the silly GUI BIOS. I felt sort of lost in there. I would rather have a conventional BIOS interface. The font is small and I had trouble reading what was there. I wasted a lot of time just trying to figure it out.

Other Thoughts: I read the reviews before buying. The board is NOT flimsy or thin as some have said. You DO have to be aware that there is no standoff support under where you attach the power, so that area could flex when you go to plug it in - if you don't support it. The board is fast and stays plenty cool, in my experience. I am using a 95W CPU and am NOT overclocking.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Board, Especially for the price

Pros: Looks Nice
Solid Feel
PCI-e
USB 3.0

Cons: Have had some problems with my video card (an R9). Not sure if they are board or Video card related, but every once in awhile the screens will go black (as they should) then not wake back up.

Other Thoughts: Running it with a R9, FX-0600 series, 8gb ram and Triple monitors for an amazing multi-tasking machine.

3 out of 5 eggsMSI fanboy is sad.

Pros: affordable, MSI, nice specs.

Cons: this isnt MSI's full fault, this is AMD's fault also for the FX series and these companies having to attempt to make this series stable. this baord had my FX-6300 running idle at 60 celcius in bios. granted its the stock cpu cooler but what am i doing in bios to hit full load with arctic silver 5 and a good seated cooler... but most of all, this board has no heatsink on the north bridge, which is where majority of the issue is for the Fx series on overheating. a quick google search on this board will steer you away. which i thought i did enough of before purchasing. PS: cpu was fine temps at 38C idle on windows. 64C on gaming. so this is also a stock cpu cooler issue too. the two made a beautiful heatwave into my fustrated heart hehe.

Other Thoughts: I've been using MSI boards since F.E.A.R. 1 came out. since the launch of Half life 2. hundreds of builds and never had an issue. My GX660 laptop runs like a dream still after 4-5 years. This is the first time I've had issues so I still love MSI. but this has definitely left a bad taste in my mouth for a birthday present that, in the end, didnt even give me a bios post. more like a headache i didnt expect.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: Great board with a wide range of support

Cons: boundled drivers are a little cumbersom

Other Thoughts: This is the third build I have done with this board and if anyone else wants me to build them a computer I will probably use this board again.
