  • newegg All Solid Capacitors Capacitors are the most important component for electronic product's power supply. The quality of the capacitors can impact the stability of the entire system and risk of product failure. Currently there are two types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Compared to electrolytic capacitors, solid capacitors have a longer lifespan, and provide a more stable power under high temperatures. More importantly, solid capacitors do not have any liquid materials inside, and thus will not suffer a leak which would infringe upon the product’s stability. With such benefits is it no wonder that solid capacitors are very important for product quality's improvement.
  • newegg APS (Active Phase Switching) Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s motherboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.

1 out of 5 eggsNot even using it

Pros: $69

Cons: Thin board,Mounting holes off kilter.Cheap no cooling).

Other Thoughts: This would not work with my phenom 2 x4 975 125 watt cpu.Put in a triple core and it works, however that's with seven fans on High on my Lanboy air red case.

4 out of 5 eggsVery good board, tight 24-pin

Pros: For a low price, is a decent ATX board. 6 audio ports, four slots for RAM, two PCI-E. Board fit perfectly in my case (Antec GX500), contrary to other boards - people have complained their boards/cases have standoffs that are slightly off.

Cons: The IO shield was a little annoying. I installed it into the case, then put the board in. However, you have to keep a close eye on the grounding "springs" on the shield - THEY MUST NOT COVER ANY PORT. One of the springs was blocking my ethernet port, and I had to take the board out, adjust the shield, and put it back in afterwards - after assembling everything, so it was a pain. Just take precautions.

If you are deathly afraid of breaking the board, don't buy this one. Don't ignore the reviews that say the 24-pin power connector is a tight fit. IT'S A TIGHT FIT. Plus the solder points on the back prick holes in your fingers when you try to plug it in anyway. Was a real pain getting it in when already mounted as well.

Speaker that came with the Antec GX500 did not work - no postbeep, although everything worked fine for me.

Other Thoughts: Worth the price, would buy it again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board for Budget or Casual Gamer

Pros: Bought this board on the Black Friday sale last year. Paired it up with an AMD FX-6300, 2x4GB G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1866, and a Thermaltake 500W PSU. I am using an older GeForce GT240 512MB GDDR5 graphics card and am still able to run Titanfall with a decent enough look and playability for me.

So far the rig has been performing wonderfully in both my casual gaming, ripping of movies (FX-6300 with Handbrake is doing DVDs in 5-15 minutes per disc), and any other tasks I have thrown at it.

The UEFI BIOS is easy to navigate. Haven't tried the overclocking due to the fact of that I haven't seen the need for it. With Windows 8.1 the system boots in about a minute with a standard 7200RPM WD drive.

Cons: Doesn't work with 125W CPUS! If you're looking at pairing this with a FX-8350 or other AMD 125W processor, look for a different board. 95W only!

Bought some cheaper SATA cables to use with this board (Coboc right angle with clip) and was unable to get two plugged into the right angled double stacked SATA ports on the board. Ended up using the SATA cables that came with the board and plugged one into the bottom of each double stack and was able to get the Coboc SATA cable plugged into the top. Not a big deal, just annoying at first.

3 out of 5 eggsFunctional with some problems

Pros: It's pretty cheap with room for expansion through RAM, CPU, GPU and SATA components. Everything seems to work well.

The CPU power supply is through a 8-pin connector, which is pretty good seeing as you need the 8-pin to do any overclocking. My previous board only had a 4-pin and after 2 years, the high voltage burnt out the connector.

2 systems fan power plugs, still better than one.

3 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0 expansion pins in case you need that much USB ports.

Cons: The first board I received was DOA. It happens, doesn't mean I'm pleased with waiting for another week to go through the RMA process. However, Newegg has been stellar and I was able to ship it back through UPS for free.

The second board works fine except for one caveat. It burns out my Xbox 360 wired controller. Every single USB slot that I plug in my 360 controller into starts to heat up my controller and after a couple of mins, it burns out and smells like burned plastic. I have no idea what this is about. I plugged in other accessories, including my external DAC, and they do not have any of this problem. I googled around and no one has mentioned this problem.

Other Thoughts: Its a fairly-priced board with lots of expansion potential (for me at least); however, it really depends on your luck whether your board comes with problems.

3 out of 5 eggsGood value, possible temperature issue

Pros: It's inexpensive and does the job.

Cons: In CPUID HWMonitor, I'm getting a high temp for TMPIN1. It idles around 45C (113F). Then with my CPU (AMD FX-6300) at around 80% load (rendering video clips) the temp goes up and stabilizes at 80C (176F) after about 6 minutes. This is with an ambient temperature in my office of around 68F.

I'm not sure what this sensor is, but it appears to be related to the CPU. This temperature under load seems far too high too me and I'm worried I might burn something out sooner than later. For information, my CPU on this load is stable at about 102F. Even if the 102 isn't accurate the CPU is clearly much cooler than whatever component on the MOBO is heating up to 80C.

Other Thoughts: I'm thinking about adding some fans to my case to increase airflow. I'm not sure how much this will help, however.

Although the MOBO appears to be functioning fine otherwise, I am concerned about that temperature wearing a component out sooner than later.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: Great board. Great overclocking. Great features.

Cons: VRM's have known issues with high wattage CPU's but I've seen none.

Other Thoughts: Great budget board. You get a lot for your money.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent MOBO

Pros: Excellent quality, plenty of room, great price, USB 3.0 interface, GUI BIOS

Cons: None to speak of

Other Thoughts: This motherboard is perfect for what I bought it for: A mid-teir gaming rig. It has 2 PCI-E x16 slots, a PCI-E x1 slot, and a PCI slot. Great for SLI/crossfire. Install was easy and the bios was great. I'm running an AMD FX-6300 and it's working like a dream

3 out of 5 eggsWorks, but...

Pros: It works.

Cons: As many have said, no heat sink on the VRMs. There is an outline for where it should be and holes for attaching it, but no heat sink. How much more could that add to the price?

The Northbridge also gets pretty hot (the heat sink itself is 60C+, chip probably hotter). I measured this with a probe while the system is running. So even the heat sink on it is marginal

For reasons I never figured out, this board simply would not recognize my Samsung HD502HJ disk. The disk works fine in other motherboards, but simply is not recognized on this one. Fortunately, I had alternative choices on hand. Both other disks (1 WD & 1 ST) I tried were recognized correctly.

The BIOS is not really very intuitive.

Other Thoughts: This was posted by MSI in a review on this site August 2013:
We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product. The web team will correct the CPU support list as soon as possible, the max TDP this board can support is 95W, thank you.

Guess what, they still list 125W TDP CPUs as being compatible on their web site, now March 2014.

Anyway, my first MSI board, and probably my last.
