  • newegg All Solid Capacitors Capacitors are the most important component for electronic product's power supply. The quality of the capacitors can impact the stability of the entire system and risk of product failure. Currently there are two types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Compared to electrolytic capacitors, solid capacitors have a longer lifespan, and provide a more stable power under high temperatures. More importantly, solid capacitors do not have any liquid materials inside, and thus will not suffer a leak which would infringe upon the product’s stability. With such benefits is it no wonder that solid capacitors are very important for product quality's improvement.
  • newegg APS (Active Phase Switching) Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s motherboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.

3 out of 5 eggsNorthbridge RUNS HOT

Pros: If it were not for the insane amount of features and for the fact that it runs, I would have given this MOBO 1-2 stars so 3 stars is fair.
Has overclock/underclock option.
This mobo is paired with FX-8320 (8 core amd CPU)
Posts great, BIOS is nice and offers temp gauges for CPU and Board

Cons: -When using the eco mode for power setting on MOBO, the idle freq drops and temps read 40-41 C at idle on CPU and Northbridge and 61-67 C under any load (downloading a file, updating windows, caching data to HDD, videogames, etc)
Northbridge Temp has a tendency to be a few degrees hotter than the CPU itself at times...pretty crazy fire hazard.
While using OC genie something weird happens. Idle freq for CPU is only a little higher and as expected so far the idle temps for CPU and Northbridge are a little higher but not bad at 45-46 C. However under same load as before they do not reach 67C, they stop between 60-65 degrees. This pc only had a max load of around 30% and will never try to go much higher or it might burn.

Other Thoughts: A fan would not help the MOBO Northbridge as I already have one on it and does nothing. Heatsink is waaaaay too small. I wish I could add a water cooler to it. I just don't understand why it is still so hot when not even under heavy memory/graphics usage as it is designed to be used for.

Thinking that now is a good time to buy warranty for this mobo...

1 out of 5 eggsUnstable at any speed

Pros: It worked alright for 2 months.

Cons: Completely unstable with stock cooling, only moderately stable with additional cooling. Had to direct fans at the Northbridge which will run 50-60 degrees out of the box at idle, without cooling it will hit 65 degrees! Board before this ran under 40 with same fan arrangement. Utterly impossible to use for long gaming sessions. Will crash every time after 5-6 hours of use. I don't know how they can sell this as a dual GPU board.

Other Thoughts: I had an MSI board before this but I will never buy another one again.

1 out of 5 eggsJust Wow

Pros: None

Cons: Everything. Bought one RMA it with the company. Got the new one back and it died just as soon as the operating system was installed.

Other Thoughts: Bought this board because I had good luck with the manufacturer when i built my wife's and my dads computers. With that said this board i had no luck. I simply just replaced it with a Gigabyte motherboard that i have been using over a year. Not saying the company is bad but this board is. I am still using the Graphics card i purchased at the same time with no issues. Not about to pay again for RMA.

4 out of 5 eggsA solid board that's kept me going for a year

Pros: it's been running for a year in my budget gaming PC. So far it hasn't died and works great

Cons: I wouldn't recommend overclocking or using OC genie. Also, I ran into a problem when trying to update the BIOS. nothing that bad though

1 out of 5 eggsWorks great until it doesn't.

Pros: It had all the features I was interested in at the time of purchase, at a good price, and ran just how I expected it to, for about 3 months...

Cons: The 5V rails on this went bad and started mucking everything up in my system. If you have one of these boards and your system starts randomly freezing for a couple seconds at a time, use some monitoring software like HWMonitor to see if your voltage rails are bad. It's what happened to me.

Other Thoughts: After only 3 months of service this motherboard bought the farm. Before this, I was an ASUS customer. I will be replacing this board with an ASUS one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board For The Price

Pros: * Has everything I need.
* POSTed on first try.
* USB stick install of OS worked flawlessly.
* Layout is good in terms of not obscuring anything important with the GPU.

Cons: * If there is a case speaker connector, I could not find it. But, then again, I didn't need it because the board POSTed on first try.

Other Thoughts: This is the fourth MSI product I have bought. They are four for four in my book.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I actually have the model directly above this for my old budget gaming build. This one is on my new mid-range build (FX-4300 and R9-280). Seems to be running fine with no problems at all. It gets the job done. I do like the 2 pci slots in case you want dual gfx cards.

Cons: None so far.

3 out of 5 eggsNot the great thing its made out to be.

Pros: This board is a good price, it has plenty of slots for video cards, and can handle AM 3+ processors.

Cons: So whats bad about it? First off the thing overheats big time. After doing some research on the motherboard I learned that this MSI motherboards are notorious for over heating! Apparently you have to put heat sinks on the board and put a fan on it for the thing to stay cool enough to use for gaming.

The board heats up quickly and will cause your system to crash.
