  • newegg All Solid Capacitors Capacitors are the most important component for electronic product's power supply. The quality of the capacitors can impact the stability of the entire system and risk of product failure. Currently there are two types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Compared to electrolytic capacitors, solid capacitors have a longer lifespan, and provide a more stable power under high temperatures. More importantly, solid capacitors do not have any liquid materials inside, and thus will not suffer a leak which would infringe upon the product’s stability. With such benefits is it no wonder that solid capacitors are very important for product quality's improvement.
  • newegg APS (Active Phase Switching) Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s motherboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.

1 out of 5 eggsAlmost lasted a year.

Pros: Nice features. Good price.

Cons: Have used MSI boards on several builds, including the one I'm typing this on, and have never had an issue. Used this board for a home server build. Ran fine for ALMOST a year, then died. Will power up, but can't find the boot drive. Can't even get into the BIOS because there's no power to any of the USB ports.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jeff,
Sorry to hear about the issue you reported. Before considering an RMA can you check following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected firmly.
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 2 years

Pros: It worked 2 years

Cons: This board died on me after 2 years, like others have reported. Did the drill, even swapped out the cpu out of another dead MSI board. Put everything from the dead boards in new ones and was up and running again. Until my great purge due to moving for the first time in 30 years I had 10-15 year old boards(even had 1 VLB that was 20 years old) that still worked fine. Still running 10 year old ide hard drives in a couple of my computers. So I think that 2 years life out of a motherboard is unacceptable.

1 out of 5 eggsRIP 970a-g43 1/18/2014 - 5/16/2016

Pros: when it worked it worked.
price was good.

Cons: died without any warning. i always made sure voltage was safe and temps were low. it shouldn't have died. yet today i turn on my computer and am greeted with only fan noise.

even after the dreaded no display no beep, i tested all other hardware. all that remains is a dead motherboard.

RIP

3 out of 5 eggsSame Issues as the rest.... and then some.

Pros: -Lasted for a little over 2 years. Good motherboard if you are looking for a semi-short term board.
-Easy overclocking
-Not the worst board I've had

Cons: -Usb ports did not work (2 of the 6 did not work)
-USB 3 socket on board broke off during initial install (very tight fit)
-Keyboard would not boot during the start-up (unable to access bios for the last year I had the board) and it's not it just wouldn't work. It would work in about 1 out of every 25 restarts.
-In short if you want to overclock and effectively use the Bios to do so, buy a more expensive MSI board to get better results
-During the last week of owning this board it just stopped booting from any hard drive. I tried multiple and not booted, I loaded those drives into other PC's and they booted just fine.
-Multiple crashes (Blue Screen) when playing not intensive games or just doing anything really.
-PCI x16 slots have a cheap plastic latch on them, be careful or they will break off very easily.

Other Thoughts: -I recommend buying a more expensive/better board. This will cause you a lot of problems in the long run that none wants to deal with.
-This board has a lot of problems and the build quality of the board is just kinda Meh, its not great but its not the worst thing I've used.
-I do like MSI, and I've enjoyed their products for the past 5 years however this board was just kinda disappointing, that the board just didn't hold up the expectations that MSI have set on most of their upper end products for me.
- A lot of people seem to have problems with the lower end boards that MSI make but all in all the board just had to many problems that arose over the 2 years of own it

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -Good price
-Has all the slots i needed

Cons: -As far as looks go, it's not especially flashy. More minimalist.
-Board feels quite thin. That said however, any flexing it experienced while hooking it up has not impacted its performance.

Other Thoughts: -All in all I'd say this is a decent board for its price. Is mostly as I expected: functional, but by no means blows me away.

2 out of 5 eggsIt was great while it lasted

Pros: When it worked, it was great. I never had an issue with it up until a week ago.

Cons: Well this past week, the MB decided not to recognize one of my hard drives and then just locks up randomly. The MB will only occasionally recognize the keyboard when trying to get into bios(two different keyboards were tried). I've installed a new SSD with a clean install of windows and cleared the CMOS, nothing helps.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line, it lasted a year and a half, but then gave out on a weekend I needed the computer for school work. I guess I got what I payed for. This was my first experience with MSI and will most likely be my last. I think I'll stick with Gigabyte and Asus.

1 out of 5 eggsSeemed great only to be a fluke

Pros: OC genie and click bios are probably some of the best things in my computing experience. Never really used them much cause I didn't feel like abusing my board or CPU.

Cons: Things ran hot, with my 8320 and gtx 650. Ran fine for awhile then at almost a year in use it died. The boards memory controller went out and cooked my Corsair Dominator Kit with it, msi needs to put in serious work on this design. This board just cost me $200 not including the cost of the board, so I would like to say thanks MSI for making this build my worst ever.

Other Thoughts: If the manufacturer read my review thanks for taking the time appreciate seeing you attempt to care

2 out of 5 eggsAverage board when it works.

Pros: Decent performance when its working

Cons: I have had this board about a year and half. Since day one it has had intermittent short freezing (5-10) seconds and complete freezes. Everything on the board runs exceptionally hot even idle. Have tried and replaced every ting the system with the same issue. After seeing many forums posts with negative complaints and similar issues, I pulled out the board a month ago and tossed it. Haven't had a single freeze since.

Other Thoughts: Cheap board. Guess you get what you pay for.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks wonderfully

Pros: Was somewhat sceptical when buying this mobo because of reviews of people saying it has issues overheating. After installing and testing it I've had no problems with overheating whatsoever. Does all I could ask for at such a low price point.

Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggsIt runs WAY too hot with a FX-8350! I got this in a bundle. READ ME!

Pros: -Easy to set up
-Great Specs

Cons: -RUNS WAY TOO HOT NB shoots to 80C+ just Downloading Windows updates and monitoring temps with HWMonitor
-I had to down clock the FX-8350 to just play Netflix! I am running @ 2,000 MHz on 8 cores and running at 55C and all I've done so far today is get on here to write a review!

Other Thoughts: I bought a bundle for $530 for my first personal computer. I have built, fixed, and modded many computers in my life and I decided to build my own casual gaming PC. Whoever bundled these components together obviously did not read reviews about this motherboard! I haven't even played any games yet and it skyrockets to 80C when I'm just trying to watch Netflix!I have a good flowing case with a fan pointed directly onto the NorthBridge heatsink. Here are my Specs:
-Roswill 680 watt PSU
-AMD FX-8350
-8GB Fury X DDR3 1600
-WD 1TB 7200rpm
-PowerColor Radeon R9 Graphic card
