  • newegg All Solid Capacitors Capacitors are the most important component for electronic product's power supply. The quality of the capacitors can impact the stability of the entire system and risk of product failure. Currently there are two types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Compared to electrolytic capacitors, solid capacitors have a longer lifespan, and provide a more stable power under high temperatures. More importantly, solid capacitors do not have any liquid materials inside, and thus will not suffer a leak which would infringe upon the product’s stability. With such benefits is it no wonder that solid capacitors are very important for product quality's improvement.
  • newegg APS (Active Phase Switching) Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s motherboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.

3 out of 5 eggsIts alright

Pros: Usb 3.0 ports
2 PCI Express ports
Click BIOS with Updater, Web Browser, and Overclocking
6 SATA 6Gb/s
and awesome BIOS Interface.

Cons: The board is narrower than it looks, so be careful when installing the 24 pin connector or you might crack the board.

Other Thoughts: It they could make it less narrow so the right side of the board can reach my case standoffs to reduce cracking when putting in a 24 pin connector.

5 out of 5 eggsYes sir I like it!

Pros: High end features with a low price tag, what is not to like? This is the lowest priced mobo out there from a reputable motherboard maker with all the must have features. I cannot figure a single item on this board that was cheaped out on, especially for the price! I have not been this enamored with a motherboard in ages and I have built hundreds of computers in the last 10 years.

Cons: Ok, since I have to complain about something I guess I will use this space to complain that this motherboard is not in fact in any way edible. I mean, if I get really hungry what am I supposed to do, resort to Ramen?

Other Thoughts: I bought this Motherboard for my video editing rig. I needed fast transfer speeds between hard drives, room for ram, and a rock solid chipset. I got that and so much more with this on a shoestring budget.

4 out of 5 eggsSupports FX-8370, NOT FX-8350

Pros: -Cheap.
-Abundance of on-board/header USB.
-Support for FX-8370

Cons: -PSU connector is mounted on edge of board unsupported by standoffs (be careful and support the outer edge of the connector with your other hand when plugging-in the PSU connector).
-Lack of VRM heatsinks (I added 2 sets of Enzotech MOS-C1 sinks).
-Front panel connectors difficult to get to. It would be nice if MSI included the panel connector extension block that comes with their higher-end boards.

Other Thoughts: I don't know what everyone here is whining about with their overclocked 8350s failing when 1-this is clearly a budget board, as evidenced by the lack of VRM sinks, and 2-the official CPU compatibility list does not include the 8350.

That said, even with the added cost of the Enzotech MOSFET sinks, this board still came out priced less than other branded comparable boards. It's a stable, non-nonsense board with 125W CPU support, so long as you read the CPU compatibility list and not overclock.

1 out of 5 eggsGo for something else

Pros: Board visually looks nice, Makes a good paperweight

Cons: Started getting random without warning shutdowns a little after a month of use. No bsod or anything. Didn't happen too frequently so I lived with it.

Then about a week ago my whole system came to a crawl. Checked and still no newer bios than what I had. I ran stress tests on cpu, gpu, and ram to rule them out as the cause, checked my hdd's for viruses, bad sectors, and errors and found nothing. Kept a close eye on temps and they were all staying low thanks to my several fans, so possible overheating was ruled out. I have excellent surge protection on both my pc and my ethernet line coming into the pc as well so that was ruled out.Tried swapping in a spare psu and no change. Even tried replacing my sata cables thinking one was going bad. Took out and reseated all components. Nothing helped.

Went to a local electronics store (since I needed my pc up and running to be able to run my business and couldn't wait for shipping) and purchased a new Asus motherboard (A brand I've had luck with in the past and should have gone with to start). Swapped it in and everything runs as fast as it used to.

The exact same components I had used with the MSI mobo were reinstalled on the Asus board. All that was changed was the board itself, and it completely fixed the problem. I can say without a doubt that the MSI mobo went bad.

Getting less than four months life out of a motherboard is not my idea of a good value.

At this point I am out the money I spent and left with a paperweight. It is too late to return it to Newegg for a refund, and I have no desire to send it in to MSI for repairs, especially after seeing other reviews mention problems with going that route. I would never trust a replacement board after the problems I had with this one to begin with.

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend considering another manufacturer other than MSI. I have used several Asus boards over the years and never had a bad one. I thought the MSI looked like a good value and it had all the features I wanted so I gave them a shot. Really wish I hadn't taken that chance.

Another thing, is back when I purchased this board it had a higher review rating on here than it does now. I've noticed many other people reporting issues after using this board for awhile. I don't know if it was a bad batch, or if the quality is just going down hill. Either way I would definitely consider some other options.

1 out of 5 eggsvery disappointed

Pros: neat bios interface. easy install.

Cons: machine keeps dying. no bsod, no messages....just randomly shuts down & I have to turn the power supply off & back on from the back to get the machine back on. after reading the reviews about the vrm overheat problems, I should've gone with my gut and gotten an asus or gigabyte.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: None - DOA

Cons: DOA. I bought this on Black Friday for a great deal. Now I have a DOA product and I guess I should have read more reviews before purchasing. Same thing happened to me. PCI-E slots dont work, sometimes would post, but to a EFI screen that you couldnt get past. I called tech support and the guy sounded like he just woke up and was horrible and got angry at me. Wont be buying a MSI board ever again.

3 out of 5 eggsNot great, not terrible

Pros: Inexpensive, Comes with lots of software for overclocking/cool built in features.

Cons: Northbridge almost caught fire when I attempted to overclock the CPU. MSI help is totally useless, and all they told me was they thoroughly test their product. Its really not meant for the AMD FX series...

Other Thoughts: Not that great for gaming... I think it would work better in an office setting, but that's my opinion.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy M S I

Pros: Everything compatible without issue
Turned on first try
Cheap

Cons: Heat Management is terrible, board is notorious for burning out during any overclock. In other words the board is useless for gaming

Realtek HD Sound is horrendous, microphone burnt out after a few weeks, randomly adjusts mic volume or shuts itself off, no customer support for this issue

Beware of 2 week rebate, very shady, lost the rebate because it was the only one with 2 weeks out of the 8 rebates I turned in

5 out of 5 eggs1 year and still going great

Pros: I bought this board alittle over a year ago for my gaming rig and it works great for me. I am your typical gamer that will play for 8 - 10 hours at a time, and this board handles it like a tank.

Has plenty of usbs with USB 3.0, and support for case USBs (including 3.0 pinouts).

There is plenty of room for upgrading with 4 ram slots, and 2 PCI-E ports to run in SLI/Crossfire.

I am unsure what people are talking about when they mention the high temps, as i just finished playing Far Cry 4 for 3 hours before writing this, my temps are 70 for CPU and 50 for the mobo, which is pretty average for being under load.

Cons: I have had a few minor things with this board. When i was running Windows 7 the drivers for my USB 3.0 didnt work, however since upgrading to windows 8, i no longer have the problem

This board will not auto register ram above 1600, if ram is put in that is faster then that, it will be slowed down to 1600. I had to go into the BIOS and manually change it to 1833.

MSI fast boost is great, got me into windows in a second......however there is no time for the motherboard to register when you want to go into the BIOS screen, when i needed to adjust my ram speed i had to reset the CMOS jumper to reset the board.

As you can see, everything i wrote about was just minor inconveniences, I never actually had anything bad happen with the board over the year that i owned it

Other Thoughts: Motherboards in my opinion are the sketchiest things to buy in a PC build. There is always a chance that you will get a defective board, plus one wrong move when installing it and it will fry. Dont be intimidated when you see a board with so many 1 egg reviews, as im willing to bet that over half of them simply got a DOA board, the other half installed something wrong, which does happen. This is a pretty decent board for the price, Personally id recommend this as a start / mid tier board, then upgrade to the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3
