  • newegg All Solid Capacitors Capacitors are the most important component for electronic product's power supply. The quality of the capacitors can impact the stability of the entire system and risk of product failure. Currently there are two types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Compared to electrolytic capacitors, solid capacitors have a longer lifespan, and provide a more stable power under high temperatures. More importantly, solid capacitors do not have any liquid materials inside, and thus will not suffer a leak which would infringe upon the product’s stability. With such benefits is it no wonder that solid capacitors are very important for product quality's improvement.
  • newegg APS (Active Phase Switching) Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s motherboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.

3 out of 5 eggsSome BIOS issues; solid otherwise

Pros: Loaded with features for such a low price. Great looks and sturdy feel. Looks and feels like a much more expensive board and performs like one so far.

Cons: For some reason it is difficult to convince this board to load the BIOS when you boot it. You have to use the "Fast Boot" software once you've booted into Windows and tell it to reboot directly to the BIOS. Frantically mashing Del while it's POSTing seems to be futile 90% of the time. Board didn't come with jumper for the Clear CMOS pins and the CMOS battery is directly behind where my Radeon R9 sits meaning every time I need to clear the CMOS I have to remove my video card. Joy.

Other Thoughts: XMP causes system to fail to post but that seems to be an issue with my RAM being "Intel XMP" :( my bad I guess. Gotta manually set the timing and voltage I guess but it's a real hassle with the CMOS clearing issues I mentioned in the Cons section.

3 out of 5 eggsMsi 970A-G43

Pros: Very powerful when over clocking. Has many sata3 ports for my sshd raid 0 array.

Cons: Heat syncs suck. There awful. the tiny things are burning up by the time you load windows. Started doing wierd things after a few weeks where it refused to load bios when i clicked power button. cpu fan would speed up then stop and speed up again, after a 5-10 cycles of this the motherboard would start the bios.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty good, So far....

Pros: Good working condition motherboard (hasn't broken like other I've bought).
Handles fast transfers (5.5Gb/s) and high end CPU's (AMD FX 9590(Only used 9590 to test the motherboards performance))

Cons: Only came with two Sata connections, I/O shield, Manual/Cd and motherboard(of course).
When I bought a motherboard from ASUS it came with 8 Sata connections, I/O Shield, Spare CMOS battery, BIOS Speaker, Front panel connectors, Manual/CD, Chassis screws, two USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 extensions, and five ASUS emblems/stickers.

Other Thoughts: I really only wanted the motherboard for my sibling, other than lacking the amount of STUFF it came with, I would recommend this mother board to a friend!

4 out of 5 eggsPretty nice little board

Pros: Lots of features for the price
Supports everything I need/use
Los of USB
Can Overclock my 6350 to 4.2 ghz with a click of a button.

Cons: No heatsinks on vrms for the CPU, so I'm not doing any overclocking to try and make the board last longer.
Only 3 fan headers total, (2 4 pins but ones for the CPU and 1 3 pin.) so if you have a case with lots of fans, get a splitter or a hub.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: installed easily, no driver or compatibility issues. have not built a computer for a while so, initially I was not sure how to install my aftermarket heatsink but I finally realized I had to pop the stock backplate off of this motherboard. no problemo after that !

Cons: can't think of any right now.

4 out of 5 eggsReplacement Board

Pros: An affordable motherboard with modern technology. It offers all the features you would expect to find including an UEFI bios.

Worked well with Windows 8.1 x64.

Has the ability for core unlocking in AMD processors.

Cons: Very limited UEFI. I was surprised how awkward the bios menu was to use and navigate. I'm use to Asus UEFI which is a pleasure to work with.

The form factor was weird. It thought it was ATX but the holes did not line up with the screw posts on the case. The edge of the motherboard was hanging off in mid air. I was able to mount it but it seemed to me that they were just trying to save money by making the motherboard smaller than it should be.

Other Thoughts: The core unlock tool really caused some problems. I tried using it on a Athlon II 435 but it did not succeed in unlocking the 4th core. Instead it caused the motherboard to lock up. It would not function at all. I tried removing all the components including the 2032 battery but nothing would allow the motherboard to POST. Eventually after an hour of troubleshooting it just started working for no apparent reason. Since then it has been good.

3 out of 5 eggsDied after one year

Pros: As I said in my review on 3/9/2014, it worked.

Cons: After one year and just under one month, it died a quiet death. I hadn't had the case open for months, and one day: nothing. I suspect the VRMs with no heat sink failed because the board showed no indication of power. I don't have the tools, time, or inclination to do forensics.

Other Thoughts: A cheap board that gave me a year's service. Can't slam MSI too much, so 3 eggs. This is probably a decent board for an average desktop user that just does office applications using a relatively low TDP CPU. But I suggest gamers stay away from this one.

My system is back up and running with a different vendor's motherboard, all other components identically the same.
