  • newegg All Solid Capacitors Capacitors are the most important component for electronic product's power supply. The quality of the capacitors can impact the stability of the entire system and risk of product failure. Currently there are two types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Compared to electrolytic capacitors, solid capacitors have a longer lifespan, and provide a more stable power under high temperatures. More importantly, solid capacitors do not have any liquid materials inside, and thus will not suffer a leak which would infringe upon the product’s stability. With such benefits is it no wonder that solid capacitors are very important for product quality's improvement.
  • newegg APS (Active Phase Switching) Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s motherboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.

5 out of 5 eggsvery satisfied

Pros: great mobo, it does everything that i need it to do and i have not had any problems with it.

Cons: the drivers disk was defective and i had to download all the drivers from the website but it was not enough of an inconvenience to knock an egg.

1 out of 5 eggsArrived with no damage.

Pros: Wasn't completely DOA.

Cons: Intermittent freezing at the desktop.
Will no longer complete post with any USB devices attached to the computer.

Other Thoughts: Installed the motherboard, installed windows. Started getting occasional freezes for up to a minute at a time.
Heated up the computer (games/benchmark) to try and find out if heat related. Issues seemed to go away once computer warm.
Shut down computer for the night, next day will no longer post. Clearing Cmos memory did not help. Reseating devices did not help. Usb devices work on other computers.
Havn't read fantastic things about MSI's Amd boards. Attempting to get a refund.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you described, many reasons can cause the situation like this. We suggest you try the following steps:
1. Power down system, test with minimum components (1 stick of ram, video, CPU, power supply and hard drive).
2. Clear cmos, verify that you have both main 24pin JPRW1 and 12volts JPWR2 ATX power connectors connected.
3. If possible verify a different memory stick, power supply etc.
For additional troubleshooting and supports please feel free to contact MSI team directly for assistance at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific Time.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Board for the Money

Pros: Price, Performance

Cons: Board feels flimsy - Handle with 2 hands & you'll be just fine. When you install the main power connector, you want to hold the board up so you don't flex the board too much.

Other Thoughts: This budget board performs most tasks pretty well. It handles moderate gaming and office/school use with no issues. Very pleased for the money.

Well, I initially thought I got a bad board because the North Bridge was getting rocket hot, and so was the AMD FX6300! After a while, I finally realized that the board was fine - the power supply was going bad!!!

I've read a LOT of reviews of folks returning boards for a bad NorthBridge because of heat. I wonder how many of them are from a power supply going bad and NOT the board? I hope NEWEGG staff read this, because simply swapping PSU's might save a bunch of RMA's that are actually just fine.

2 out of 5 eggsWon't Boot without CMOS Jump

Pros: It works... kind of.

Cons: I built my new PC and was happily enjoying it.

I put it to sleep when bedtime came, then woke up to play some more. To my horror, the PC would not boot out of sleep mode.

Holding the power button would not shut down the PC. The restart button would not work.

Flipping the PSU switch off, turned the PC off - well at least that worked!

However, my attempts to reboot from there were futile. The PC would not post. After reseating everything, it was obvious this mobo was the culprit.

I tried resetting the CMOS by removing the battery. Still would not post.

Opening the manual, it told me to try using the "Clear CMOS jumper". I assumed there would be something to slide over the rails on the mobo for this, but NOTHING was included. This is my first budget build so I've been spoiled with reset cmos/bios buttons that just worked. I used a screwdriver.

Due to the very vague instructions and unclear instructions, I may be shorting these jumpers incorrectly. It shows Keep Data as 2 gray squares, and Clear Data as two black squares. What does that mean? How do you short them? What do you use to short them? I'm lost and confused!

So, eventually, by shorting the CMOS to the "CLEAR DATA" (I think, again I'm still unclear) position, I was able to reboot. I attempted to reconfigure my overclock settings with OC GENIE which actually worked nicely on my 2133mhz RAM. However, upon saving settings and rebooting, again it would not post.

So once again, I short the jumper and it reboot.

It appears every time the PC shuts down or reboots, I will need to short these jumpers, which means I will not really be able to overclock because even the CLICKBIOS app included requires a restart when attempting to overclock.

I may just be shorting the jumper incorrectly, but again, because the instructions in the manual give no real idea on how to set these jumpers, I have no idea.

I have no other motherboards I can test with or use, and I need a basic functioning computer so I can do my work, so I'm not really in a position to be able to RMA this, not can I afford to buy a new motherboard in the meantime.

Unless MSI can come around and fix my stupidity, want to send me better instructions or fill me in on something I'm missing, this will probably be the last MSI motherboard I purchase.

I knew I should have spent $20 more on an ASUS board.

4 out of 5 eggsGood board for the price

Pros: -Work well with my 7870 on all games
-Works well with my system
-Enough PCI slots for 2 graphics cards and a WiFi adapter
-Overall good budget board

Cons: -No cooling on the DRM
-Temp 2 (i'm assuming the CPU socket temperature) kept going over 90 and peaked at 110 degrees C. It went down to 75 after I bought 4 case fans, so the problem has been fixed.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome budget board

Pros: So far both builds going strong. One with 6300 and one with 4350. Both work great with hyper evo 212 and everything running cool. Obviously you can spend more, but for the price can't think of a single con.

Cons: None
