  • newegg All Solid Capacitors Capacitors are the most important component for electronic product's power supply. The quality of the capacitors can impact the stability of the entire system and risk of product failure. Currently there are two types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Compared to electrolytic capacitors, solid capacitors have a longer lifespan, and provide a more stable power under high temperatures. More importantly, solid capacitors do not have any liquid materials inside, and thus will not suffer a leak which would infringe upon the product’s stability. With such benefits is it no wonder that solid capacitors are very important for product quality's improvement.
  • newegg APS (Active Phase Switching) Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s motherboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.

5 out of 5 eggsHas everything you need

Pros: It has connections for pretty much everything you could ever want. I've owned it around 6 months and have had no problems.

Cons: The backplate didn't fit very well in my case, but that could be my case's problem.

Other Thoughts: Wasn't available in red, would've been nice.

1 out of 5 eggsProblems

Pros: Good when not locking up

Cons: The first board came and the on board sound was not working. MSI wanted me to pay them to ship it to them to fix. Ended up sending it back to Newegg with no cost in shipping. Newegg sent me a new one. One year later I get lock ups. The USB ports stop working. Some times I can move my keyboard and mouse to a new USB port and everything works fine, but most of the time I have to Hard boot the computer.

Other Thoughts: None

4 out of 5 eggsNot Bad- Hope to have luck with MSI again

Pros: Nice Looking, Fairly easy Bio's after calling MSI . 4 RAM Slots, RUNS FAST, DECENT PRICE

Cons: I/O cover did not line up well - May be a case issue
Only runs with 8 pin P/S - I overlooked when buying
Board seams flimsy. Bends very easy.
BIOS was funky at first. MSI rep a bit untrained- Rep had me look up on GOOGLE how to solve issue.. LUCKY I KNOW COMPUTERS!

Other Thoughts: Had another MSI and lived FOREVER... 8 years and still running! Lets hope this one does.

GIVING 4 STARS because of other MSI board.. Hopefully this one follows suite

4 out of 5 eggsGood simple board for the price!

Pros: It works right out of box! I needed a fairly easy to use MOBO and did a bit of researching and found this one that is in my price range and is very well rated.

Cons: No onboard video output. I had planned on buying a GTX 970 graphics card when I built this rig and accidently forgot to buy the card when I bought everything else. I realized when I was assembling my computer that this board doesn't have a video out on it. So I had to wait until I got in the graphics card to fully build the computer. Other than no video output on the board no complaints.

2 out of 5 eggsDo yourself a favor, stay away

Pros: - Looks very nice
- Good features

Cons: The board was dead on a arrival. I have built many computers, this is the very first DOA that I've encountered. I know how to take the precautions against ESD, etc. There are many references online about this board being dead on arrival. Guess what? They're true. Stay away.

Ask yourself, why is it cheap? It's cheap for a reason.

Other Thoughts: I know this review won't be helpful to a lot of you, but please take my advice and get something more worth your money.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2).
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

3 out of 5 eggsHasn't caught on fire

Pros: Good for the wallet.

Cons: No VRMs can cause heating issues for some types of users.

Other Thoughts: I have had this board for a little over a year. It functions well after some additional components were added. As such I added some Enzotech MOS-C1 heatsinks to the VRMs and then a Scythe Grand Kama Cross 2 (which fits snug in mid tower ATX case) for some downdraft onto those heat sinks. The result is a nice cool temp of just 58c on the mobo under heavy load with FX-6300 overclock at 3.75. Never had problems with the CPU heat, just the MOBO heat. Otherwise. it seems fine now.

4 out of 5 eggsUsed in a server

Pros: -Good Price
-Have the setting to re-power the machine after a power outtage
-Compatible for hardware passthrough using ESXI/vSphere

Cons: -The CPU fan connector is too close to the socket. I was unable to install a rather small aftermarket heatsink since it was blocking the connection

4 out of 5 eggsWorks for my needs

Pros: Easy installation
Enough room
Fit my case perfectly

Cons: USB 3.0 Port unattached from the motherboard with the USB 3.0 Connector
Tight fit between my 3rd Party CPU Fan and one of the sticks of memory
Manual seemed lacking
No on-board video

Other Thoughts: This is my second MSI motherboard, upgrading from the one that I have had for several years. I have little problems with this one, mainly what I have had to deal with may deal with my case itself, but unsure. The only real problem I had with this motherboard was with the USB 3.0 connector port detaching with the USB 3.0 connector. I had to reinstall the port and then reconnect the connector afterwards. This was disconcerting with all things considering and was my own real concern. Otherwise, the MSI MB has been solid so far and I haven't had any other problems.
