1 out of 5 eggsMSI Motherboard

Pros: Good price and Good performance.

Cons: This motherboard sucks, first of all, its BIOS version cannot allow user to restart when I finished installation; second, after I updated the BIOS version, it can restarts but after few restarts. It just gives a black screen and I cannot go into BIOS control panel, which makes me frustrating!!!! This motherboard is good with its price and performance but all those issues just make this motherboard useless. I hope they can fix it in the future.

Other Thoughts: I kinda lose my faith in MSI since I always believe they are one of my top brands !!

Btw, I changed to a ASUS motherboard afterward and it works perfectly !! So before you guys buy this motherboard DONT take the chance that it will works PERFECTLY !!!

4 out of 5 eggsA good mobo

Pros: - Cost
- The click BIOS is easy to navigate even for those who don't know what they are doing
- Has the 4 DIMM slots (while nothing special, it is still nice to have)
- The one i used for my first build is still going strong after a year and a half

Cons: - Only has 1 PCI-E slot, which makes it hard to upgrade
- It is a little bit tricky trying to get the interfaces into the back panel

Other Thoughts: It is a very good budget board, but only when it works. As said above, my first experience using this board was very good; however the second time I used this board I had 2 DOA's. The first one I sent back for a replacement, but after the second was DOA I had to ask for a refund and spring for a more expensive mobo. On the bright side, MSI tech support was very good, and they were the ones who helped me diagnose that the problem was in fact the mobo. As a side note: my rating is based on the mobo itself and not on my experiences with it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine for me

Pros: This board has worked just fine for me. Some other people mentioned a problem with rebooting, but I've rebooted several times without incident since getting this board. Whatever the problem was there, it seems to have been fixed now.

Cons: Not *really* a con, but this board has only six screw holes to mount to the case, which leaves the right side somewhat unsupported. When I was plugging in the 24 pin power connector I was worried that the board would snap if I didn't support it from underneath.

1 out of 5 eggsWish it Lived up to its name

Pros: Loved the BIOS and "Military class components" Were a nice touch, even though I'm sure they wouldn't make a difference to me. Great deal for a board I thought had everything I wanted. Trouble is that it has a known issue causing it to fail to restart.

Cons: I can shut down from windows, but restart is non-existent. Not even from BIOS can you restart the computer, only a hard power off will shut this board off.
It is a known issue and nothing can be done about it. Pass on this board, maybe the newer model (z97) will have this bug worked out.

3 out of 5 eggsalright but not great

Pros: It works well without any problems.

Has OC genie 4

A small heatsink in this prove range

Cons: The drivers MSI has for this board has the Trojan Virus, but it's a good thing that I have Norton System security for my pc or else it would've gotten taken over by the virus

1 out of 5 eggswon't reboot

Pros: Got this on sale with Intel Core i5-4590 Haswell combo.

Cons: Board does not reboot. “The motherboard hangs on every reboot. No error message, no display, no beeps, just a blank monitor. Tried everything. Only way the motherboard boots is from a power off state. Every reboot from OS/Ctrl-Al-Del/reset button hangs the motherboard” this is from another reviewer and it’s exactly what happened to me. I’ve update the bios, remove and replaced different memory module, replaced the power supply, nothing worked. After doing extend search on the web and found that many users had same exact issues as many here in newegg review as well. End up RMA paid $15 to shipping.

Other Thoughts: This is my first MSI board, my previous sandy-bridge builds are all ASUS or Gigabyte. I was looking for a LGA 1150 board and only MSI H97 Guard-Pro was on sale, since H97 is the newest intel chipset, I reluctantly ordered to give MSI a second chance, it worked perfectly with I5-4590 haswell processor. So I assume this MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate has issues with certain processors or just maybe they have quality control issues.

1 out of 5 eggsIssue Prone and Black Screen Issues

Pros: Well its cheap, really cheap compared to other motherboards. That's really the only pro I had with this motherboard.

Cons: Oh boy, here we go. First, when installing the motherboard it was a little skinnier than I would have expected, so 3 ATX screws didnt line up and the board felt really flimsy in my case.

Next, when trying to boot with the my EVGA GTX 760 OC Ed. after I installed the 331 drivers I believe, would put me to the black screen upon trying to start it up. Of course, I sort of solved this, as I then tried updating the bios and low and behold it booted it up once and a while instead of not at all. Whenever it didnt "boot", I was able to determine because it apparently didnt recognise the card was in the slot half the time, and the other half of the time I have no idea why it wasnt showing up my displays. But it worked.

Fast forward about 9 months later (november 2014), and I decide to finally update the GPU drivers. And next time I need to restart the computer (my power went out), the black screen issue came back, this time it was the unknown issue. Of course, I look up online that I should update the bios to the most recent version. I of course follow this advice, update it, and guess what, still didnt work. Nothing, nada, zip. I was fed up, and went out the next day and bought another brand of motherboard, installed it, and it worked like a charm, no issues.

Other Thoughts: I dont know if my mobo was defective, but as many many many other people on the internet had the same issue that I had.

I bought this motherboard months ago, and have no interest in dealing with it anymore, I just want it to go away for the months of stress it gave me. I just want people to know the issues I had.

Overall, I am very disappointed in the motherboard, and will not be buying any MSI stuff for a long time.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes it's job

Pros: Simple setup and it was half off when I bought it.

Cons: There seems to be an issue when trying to restart your PC. But I was able to flash the bios to the most up to date and version and it works fine.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you update the bios from 1.5 to 1.8. Install the live update utility to make your life easier.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Product at Exceptional Price

Pros: 1. Cheap
2. Looks nice in my windowed case
3. BIOS is pretty easy to navigate

Cons: 1. Fan control is very limited to CPU and one system fan

Other Thoughts: This motherboard was bundled with the Intel i5-4590 and cost me next to nothing. I would not have built with this motherboard but the cheap price enabled me to spend some more money on other components I cared more about.

My biggest gripe with this case is the limited fan control. The motherboard allows you to control the CPU fan and one system fan. It has the capability for two more fans but they cannot be controlled. I just bought a fan controller and still paid less than most other motherboards would have cost, problem solved.

This board was a little tight when installing my Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. If I wanted to use all for RAM slots I would have to get creative. I do not plan on doing this any time soon so no eggs docked here.

Finally, when I was getting the PC set up I had an issue where windows would not complete its restarts. It would shut down all programs and power down the monitor but would not shut the computer down and restart. If you have this issue just put the most updated BIOS on a flash drive and you should be good to go.
