5 out of 5 eggsWorked right out of box

Pros: So I thought I broke one of the pins on this mobo, but thankfully I didn't. This thing has been nothing but good to me! Worked right away.

Cons: Only con I could think of is the connector for the USB 3.0 It was hard to connect the cable to it in my Cooler Master HAF 912 case. Took some time to squeeze in. Not worth taking off an egg.

Other Thoughts: I highly suggest this mobo. Used it for my first build!

5 out of 5 eggsFine Little MB

Pros: *Small
*Well laid out PCB

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Granted I have not had this mainboard long it setup perfectly out of the box. I didn't have any issues at all. I used mem slots 2-4 the same way I do on all recent MSI 4 slot MB's. I used the Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 2x8 1600 Mhz Kit (that you can't find anymore) and worked out perfect. It was the same kit I used on an MSI 970A-G46. I set optimized, then XMP on the mem, and away I went to the OS installation. Using the stock cooler for now it's fine but I did notice the same thing that [H] did on the review of the gaming version of this mobo that the OC genie is now stripped down. Just to try it I got an auto OC of 4.0 Ghz with a 4670k. For an easy OC it's great it did it @ low voltage too. I backed it down anyway running stock for now. I have heard tales that this mobo will get around 4.5~4.6 if you have a good CPU. This is essentially the same mobo as the gaming version minus the Realtek 1150 (this one uses ALC892) and the extra heatsink. It's basically 98% the same motherboard. I found onboard sound to be fine as long as I uninstalled the Creative Labs Cinema. The software GUI (Creative Labs Cinema) crashed more than once and I noticed it takes the EQ out of the Realtek's GUI. I don't like the Crystalizer version in this software is not a real substitute for the Realtek EQ as it's not implemented the same way it is on my X-Fi card which also has an EQ. The ALC 892 sounds better without CL Cinema and just your Realtek EQ properly set. I use the X-Fi for cans with front port out and the Realtek for the speakers works out great that way.

The mobo has just the right rear IO layout too. You will notice the right amount of USB 2.0 vs 3.0 combo - compare to other manufacturers back panel IO layout this one is better IMO. Has optical out (for your external receiver), and a decent labeled IO backplate (not all chrome like the cheap boards). Only two fan connectors, but that's all I needed really. Room for a large CPU heatsink as long as you use slots 2&4 for your mem. CMOS battery is in an optimal place above the top GPU slot so you don't have to remove the graphics card if you have one.

So far there is nothing I don't like about this motherboard really. It's just underneath the gaming version of this board but it fits my blue color scheme, and I already had a sound card. It's a superb value for a very well rounded performance machine. Great for a gaming PC, and since it's small you could also use it ib an mATX case. That was part of the selling point for me as I'm tired of huge cases and looking to transition this to a smaller mATX case eventually and I can't do that with a regular ATX sized mobo.

Great buy I highly recommend this motherboard if you want a great performer for your Haswell at a decent price. It's slightly budget oriented for a Z87 but it's features and performance are not budget they are actually very nice.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome budget board

Pros: i have had this board for nearly 3 months now,and i have had zero problems with it,i got it to replace a DOA gigabyte motherboard, and it worked right away with no problems,it had no bent pins so that's a plus, honestly for the price it's a amazing buy,i don't know why this only has three eggs on newegg, but for the price you cant really do much better, overall i would recommend this z87 motherboards to my friends and to anyone looking for a budget motherboard.

forgot to add that the bios is really good,it's better then most UEFI bios i have seen, and the OC genie function is really nice if you just want a simple overclock to 4.0GHZ

Cons: no cons, everything works as it should and for a great price you cant go wrong

1 out of 5 eggsDont Waste Your Money!

Pros: None

Cons: This thing is an absolute piece of garbage! Wouldn't even post without a ps/2 keyboard connected.. Who uses a ps/2 keyboard? Did the driver updates and still usb3 ports don't recognize my wireless mouse. Wasted an entire weekend on this lemon and still it doesn't work. I should have bought another asus to start with, but thought I could shave a few bucks on the build. Not worth paying rma return shipping so im scraping it out on the bay. I'll never buy another msi product again.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Simply amazing clickable BIOS - best I've ever seen. Compact, high-quality motherboard with all the slots you'd ever need for a great gaming PC build (up to 2 video cards). Less power usage than a full ATX board as well so easier to keep cool.

Cons: Cannot get SYSFAN2 slot to deliver the necessary amount of current to power the fan I selected. However, this is most likely a setup error on my end.

4 out of 5 eggsVery solid board

Pros: Provides everything an entry level board should have. Is definitely military class toughness (hey it didn't break when I touched it right :D).

Love the MSI software with this board, and probably one of the reasons why I got it.

Cons: Wished they designed the USB 3.0 facing upward, it would have made plugging the USB 3.0 plug into my case a little less tricky. Bent the connectors the first time around and had to straighten it out with a plier (lol).

Other Thoughts: It's a great board. If it goes on sale again, definitely buy it!

5 out of 5 eggsF***in rocks!

Pros: Rock solid. amazing features for the price. Looks good. Bios looks great and performs well.

Cons: none for the time being..

Other Thoughts: Had several ASUS and Gigabyte's.. My first try on MSi.. I love it so much that I bought another one.. did'nt buy from Newegg though but had to come here to write this review down so people could see it. Asus is mostly using cheap chips and Gigabyte is cool but unless you count the dual bios thingy nothing beats my new affordable MSi motherboards.

5 out of 5 eggsTech support and Board were great

Pros: Board was stable, fired up right out of box, ran great.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The board was great out of the box,,,and there was an original micsommunication with a tech support and my lack of research. After a an with their tech support, i called them up and via emails we calmly discussed the situation, and everything was taken care of. I think their products are well designed so in the meantime i purchased a z87-GD 65 and love it. Would happily buy more products from MSI.

3 out of 5 eggsIt Hates Memory

Pros: Once you have the right arrangement of hardware it's okay.

Cons: As another reviewer pointed out it's unstable, especially when it comes to your memory selection. I first tried CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 16GB (CMY16GX3M2A1866C9R) and the system wouldn't even post.

I swapped that out with my previous rig's memory and the system was fine, so I looked on MSI's website for compatible memory and went with G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (F3-12800CL9Q-16GBZL), thinking that the system might not like 1866 memory or 8GB modules. With this memory the system seemed fine, until intensive gaming at which point the system randomly BSODed. I basically had no idea if this was a Windows 8 issue or another hardware component (it was my first rig with an SSD). So I tried Windows 7, and also put various components in my old rig to see if they were the issue. When I'd pretty much exhausted testing all the components I concluded it was the motherboard.

Eventually I was about to give up on the motherboard so I looked at the other Z87 uATX boards, and on one of the Gigabyte ones the reviewer mentioned that it wasn't stable when 4 sticks of memory were installed. I removed one set of DIMMs, and sure enough the system was stable. So I think there might be something wrong with uATX Z87 motherboards in general when it comes to having 4 DIMMs installed.

Really wanting 16GB, for whatever reason, I got G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series (16GB F3-1600C9D-16GXM), this time looking at G Skill's website to verify that they had been tested with this board. Finally I have a stable system with 16GB of memory.

Other Thoughts: It's not fun when your you build a new gaming rig and it won't post. I've always had good experiences with MSI in the past, so this was kind of surprising. Once you have the right combination of components installed, though, its perfectly fine. There isn't much selection when it comes to uATX Z87 boards so this is probably as good a bet as any.

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB
XFX Double D FX797GTDFC Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB
