Powered by AMD 760G + SB710 chipset, the MSI 760GMA-P34(FX) motherboard offers a great foundation for you to build an AM3+ CPU based system. It supports DDR3 memory modules up to DDR3 1866(OC), HyperTransport 3.0 technology links and PCI Express 2.0 graphics interface to get the most of your high end components. The Integrated ATI Radeon HD3000 graphics delivers decent DirectX 10 graphics performance that's great for HD video playback and web animation acceleration.

This motherboard adopts all solid capacitor design for enhanced life span and stability. The Active Phase Switching (APS) technology helps save energy and reduce heat generation by switching off power supply when no electricity is needed. The latest SATA III and USB 3.0 are also built onboard, thus you can get the most out of your SSD and high-speed peripherals.

General information

APS (Active Phase Switching)

Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s motherboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.

General information

Unlock CPU Core

MSI’s Unlock CPU Core technology, exclusive from MSI, can unlock the hidden cores in the CPU by making a few selections from the BIOS. By unlocking a Phenom II X2 CPU into a Phenom II X4 CPU, users can boost the CPU performance over 104%. In Addition, MSI discovers the ability to unlock Phenom II X4 960T to a 6 core CPU through the same BIOS setting. At same time, MSI was the first who could unlock a 4-core AMD CPU to a 6-core because MSI does not use any "unlock" chip on our motherboards. MSI engineers developed a BIOS technology to unlock cores which can be easy upgraded via new BIOS. Because of this flexible BIOS core unlock feature, MSI can today announce that it made BIOS unlocking easy and accessible for the audience who doesn’t know their way around the BIOS. This new MSI software tool allows users to unlock CPU cores from Windows with just a few simple clicks, no need to enter the BIOS.

General information

All Solid Capacitors

Capacitors are the most important component for electronic product's power supply. The quality of the capacitors can impact the stability of the entire system and risk of product failure. Currently there are two types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Compared to electrolytic capacitors, solid capacitors have a longer lifespan, and provide a more stable power under high temperatures. More importantly, solid capacitors do not have any liquid materials inside, and thus will not suffer a leak which would infringe upon the product’s stability. With such benefits is it no wonder that solid capacitors are very important for product quality's improvement.

3 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Pretty good. It doesn't support Windows 8 or higher.

Cons: Really good motherboard for beginners in my opinion

Other Thoughts: The SATA ports are in a bad spot l. I put in my 970 GPU and I couldn't plug any of the SATA ports in. Had to plug in SATA before the card

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Great fan speed control. The fan speed changes very gradually with increasing heat.

Cons: I would rather have another PCIe slot instead of the PCI. There are very few slots, so it does not make sense to allocate 1/3 just for backward compatibility.

1 out of 5 eggsBad idea

Pros: None

Cons: First one was DOA. Second one lasted about a month before going bad.

Other Thoughts: I will not ever purchase another MSI board again!

2 out of 5 eggsworks, but... 6gb ports does not work

Pros: Works

Cons: I bought this because it has 2 6gb ports. Plug in my 6gb hdd. Nope, does work. 3gb ports work just fine. Oh and no real manual for this thing. I wouldnt know if i was doing anything wrong cause the manual sucks, it about 10'pages long in about 50 different languages. Making it look like its a good manual. Not happy. But it works nonetheless. Your judgement call.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Mobo

Pros: Works well. Good solid board. I have an AMD Callisto 550 processor in it now, plan on using an FX 4350 Later on. At 3.2 GHZ, this MB and proc combo works well and does not heat up badly as others have noted. Everything seems to work . The onboard Radeon 3000 graphics puts out good quality images on my monitor (VGA). I set it up using 1024 mb of memory and it's still a fast computer. The fast USb and Fast SATA work well. For an inexpensive motherboard, I'm very pleased with it.

Cons: This is just a mild gripe, but the BIOS is a little archaic, but works well. I could not get the BIOS to start at first, but by using a jumper on the cmos pins, I soon had it up and running well. Removing the CMOS battery and putting it back didn't help.As soon as I removed the jumper, I got it right into Bios and then the OS booted. No hiccups since then.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a good little inexpensive motherboard for a build that is fun and runs a lot of programs well, then you ought to look at this one. Just because the chipsets and BIOS are " so last thursday" doesn't mean it won't perform well.

4 out of 5 eggsRe-Review

Pros: Now that I finally got this board working it is pretty good. I spent about 12 hours doing research to try to get this board running. Turns out the board didn't come with a USB Pin Cover. I had to use a pin cover from my old mobo and once I put that on the pins it booted right up!

Cons: My graphics card covers up 1/2 of my SATA slots. other than that nothing

Other Thoughts: I give 4 eggs because of the board not coming with that pin i needed and it gave me a head ache to fix.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat MicroATX board, but with one flaw...

Pros: Very good quality hardware. Default BIOS settings are near perfect, but I did enable Quiet-and-Cool and Core-Unlock. +1 for having a BIOS and not UEFI as I run Slackware Linux and UEFI has been very disappointing as a replacement for the standard BIOS.

Cons: Not enough to knock off any eggs but I did have a few gripes that could be improved upon.

1. The BIOS settings for some options are not listed or described well. I had to reset my BIOS after a setting prevented the system from actually powering on.

2. Updating the BIOS is rather problematic. Some manufacturers allow updates within the OS, but this one does not, and I'm unsure how to do this. There is an update, but there's very little documentation on how to use the update at all.

3. The AMD Core Unlock software could be updated to run on various Windows platforms. I run Server 2012 R2 (mostly due to it being a freebie from my college) rather than standard Windows and it doesn't work for me. Not that I need it, but it would be nice to know if my Quad-Core AMD FX has any extra capabilities.

The video chip support by AMD is abysmal. The Radeon HD 3000 drivers are severely limited and the latest drivers have lots of unresolved bugs and are limited to Windows 7/8 officially only. The OpenGL support is so bad, none of my OpenGL apps would even run on the Radeon HD 3000.

Microsoft has Windows 10 drivers but I haven't been able to test them to see if they work at all. Windows 8.1 is barely supported at all. AMD is completely inept at proper hardware support and reliable drivers are nonexistent. Get an Nvidia GPU to pair up with this board or you'll regret it. In contrast, the Linux and Xorg support for the GPU is spot on and out of the box, this is a wonderful system for Slackware Linux.

MSI, you should rethink using AMD graphics and use Nvidia instead. Better drivers and better support overall. Radeons are just trash.

Other Thoughts: I love the fact this is a modern motherboard with a standard BIOS, and not UEFI which is still very non-standardized even among other vendors, and super problematic with alternative operating systems. I wish more vendors had stuck to, and sold, more BIOS based motherboards rather than UEFI.

Many UEFI systems still have glitches and other issues due to there being no real uniform standardization other than the loose-knit specifications presented by Microsoft. Plus, it was EXTREMELY nice to migrate a Linux based install from one PC to another without reformatting the drive, losing data, all just to accommodate UEFI. For that, MSI, you have my eternal thanks.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat AM3+ upgrade board

Pros: lots of great features; like SATA6gb/s and USB 3.0
Easy to use bios, with a vast feature set.
Install disc is good, with everything you need, and some weird extras you don't need.
The on-board Video is enough to get things running smoothly on the desktop. Id stay away from anything 3D though.

Cons: The drive boot menu is buried, so you have to dig a little to get things initially setup. There are also a lot of undocumented settings, so you will need to search through user questions online to completely make use of; it took some searching to figure out what Infiniti 2.2TB meant - a setting needed for HDD's over 2.2 TB - not an actual 2.2TB physical drive built into the board (like I wished, naively). Don't have it - dont need it - and it was turned on by default.

Could have used 4 ram slots

The pins for power and reset switch and LEDs are setup weird; I wish they would just make it a single multi pin plug already...

The ATX connector port is located far from any stand-offs, so plugging it in really flexed the board, nearly to the base of the case. I had to put my pinky finger under the board to get it pushed in all the way.

The settings for the SATA 6gb/s controller is a little confusing, and took a few tries to get set correctly for standard operation. An ATA mode would have been helpful, rather than it labeled IDE, which seems like an antiquated term.

Other Thoughts: Despite a few annoyances, its still a 5 star product, in the end it works perfect.
I'm a long time Newegg shopper and recently I attempted a major PC upgrading on FleeBay. After receiving 6 dead parts, I abandoned that idea and ordered from this great website. It arrived in good condition; not dented and in pieces, and all the parts were included. The first time I turned it on the BOIS splash screen greeted me, not blankness, buzzing sounds and hours of troubleshooting.

3 out of 5 eggs 760GMA-P34(FX)

Pros: it powered on. takes a fx cpu on a micro atx board. it was cheap, the only reason why it gets 3 eggs.
I have 3 msi boards in use at my house now. this one, a 970 gaming and another cheap micro atx socket am2 from 7 years ago.(still going too). right now unfortunately I am considering returning this board for a refund.

Cons: you get what you pay for I guess.
the board is hot and unstable.
I had a fx4350 and a freezer 7 pro and a 4gig stick of crucial from a previous build that I upgraded to a fx8350 and a cryorig h7.
I wanted to find a board that would match my left over stuff for a cheap micro build. I thought this was it.
while in desktop at idle the cpu is running 20-30% usage and the memory use is near maxed out at 4 gigs. running between 30-40c. this is a huge jump from when the exact parts where used on another motherboard. the idle cpu use was around 5% , the memory use was barely a gig and the temp was around 10c.
everything is sluggish and constantly freezes with this 760GMA-P34(FX . the other board I have with exact parts was snappy and fast.
The msi website has no support for any thing over windows 7
the driver disc comes with outdated drivers of course
the box came unsealed.????
the rear I/o panel usb 3 ports are dead.
the bios is outdated and does not function right. trying to enable the feature for a target temp or min fan speed is a failure. no matter what you set, the cpu gets hotter and hotter and the fan speed stays low.
I have tried to reinstall all the drivers with up dated ones, reinstalled windows and tried different ram in this board but no luck. still slow, sluggish , freezing and running hot and at a high load while at idle.
