1 out of 5 eggsnot good

Pros: cheap

Cons: the bios is is always changing, it is always wanting to boot to different hdd or it takes 30+ seconds from pushing pwr button till it even loads the motherboards logo.

Other Thoughts: ive purchased 2 boards since then from different brands and both are working fine. nothing like this one.

5 out of 5 eggsG3258 Overclocking

Pros: Great motherboard for the money has manual voltage adjustment up to 1.3v on the core. Took my Pentium G3258 to 4.5ghz with 1.275v and a hyper T2 cooler/Arctic Mx-4. Running it with no power saver features enabled at a constant voltage and speed. Will update later when/if it fails. So far it's held up really well normal crashes when stress testing an Overclock around 10 of those and it's still functioning like day one. Have had it for around 4 months now. I'd say this is the board to get for a budget build hands down, can't be beat for the price.

Cons: Bios settings revert to default sometimes on reboot. Just have to reboot to bios and click save again to fix. This only happens if I click restart. Shutting down and turning back on everything is fine. Which is what I do normally anyway so no big deal.

This could be a problem with windows 10 tech preview too not 100% just thought I'd add.

1 out of 5 eggsDead On Arrival

Pros: - Easy to overclock.
- Not too huge nor too small.
- Can Support an Intel i5-4460
- Decent for budget builders.

Cons: - DEAD ON ARRIVAL.
- 2 RAM slots.
- 4-Pin CPU
- Not the prettiest mobo, but its cheap, what do you expect?
- Not good for high end specs, but why buy this if you are gonna buy a high end cpu or gpu?

Other Thoughts: Since it is dead, I am probably getting a refund rather than a replacement, I am just way too disappointed that I got a dead motherboard so I don't feel like getting another H81M-P33..

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2), clear CMOS.
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

4 out of 5 eggsGood board, bad documentation

Pros: Board is compact, and well laid out. I can't say anything negative about the board itself, it's exactly what I was expecting.

Cons: The board came in a sealed container but had no manual and no documentation. Had to do a quick google search to find which pins were for power, reset, and hdd lights. Pretty annoying. Also no cd or anything with drivers so I had to do another search to find those. Really irritating.

Other Thoughts: The board is fine, but get the manual and drivers ahead of time and don't get frustrated.

5 out of 5 eggsCompetent Performance at a Bargain

Pros: Intuitive BIOS GUI with quick access to settings. The click-and-drag boot order settings quite stuck my fancy. Gets through POST quite quickly and hands things over to Windows (seemingly) even faster once the boot splash graphic was disabled.

Cons: This may be my inexperience in PC building, but I felt the amount of force required to insert RAM to be excessive. Fearing damaging the unit, I mistakenly left one slot not inserted completely, which kept the unit from booting. Fortunately I soon realized my mistake. Also, (possibly my inexperience talking again) the amount of force to insert the 20-pin power connector to be excessive, the board even seemed to flex a bit more than I'd like during the process as well.

The above are more nit-picks than cons though, I had a hard time really finding anything I don't like about this board.

Other Thoughts: Being my first Gaming PC build, I didn't need any advanced features like OC capability, SLI, or other bells and whistles. I was looking for a Motherboard that had a socket for a processor and a slot for a GPU. This unit fit the bill nicely and at quite a decent price. Hasn't given me any trouble so far (and has in fact survived a PSU failure). Competent board at a bargain of a price, would definitely recommend.

2 out of 5 eggsThis made my build so stressfull!!!

Pros: Was wowed at the size.
It had everything that I would end up using.
Works
Sata 3 ports allowed me to see double the speeds on my ssd vs my sata 2 mobo. I assume its mostly spikes of data tho (process explorer up to 450MB vs old 200MB)

Cons: Drivers
I/O shield caused me to take the computer apart a few times...
never had to fight with a I/O shield in any of my other builds, like that. Some of the spring tabs, I'll call them, were bent at such a angle, that they would never allow me to line up the mobo, but I failed to notice that at the start...
The manual is terrible, its more of a checklist of everything you should know before putting a computer together.

Back to drivers, don't use ANYTHING but lan, audio, intel chipset drivers. (for the mobo, I also only tried to install a few drivers and had terrible results, so I just install the mains ones)
Live update 6 was poorly working, usb 3.0 and intel ms10 I think it was, would break my my mouse and keyboard and sometimes it would be very hard to get them to work again.

After installing windows and getting my first real boot into OS, there were just about 0 drivers... not even lan drivers, but lucky for me I downloaded most of them to my other HDD.

The manual was so poor that I had to find out about usb resume from sleep from newegg answers, was 2 pin selectors... I had to take some flat n wide needle nose pliers and spend 10 mins fiddling with them, as I was not taking the computer apart again.

Then the audio, for a while I thought something was broken in the front panel, but turn out the be the option "disable front panel detection" that I disabled earlier as I thought it would disable front panel sound... kinda like it says, but it turns out it didn't work that was and that was why my front sound wasn't working and that every time you unplugged the rear audio it would say they were disconnected and couldn't change the sound volume and would sometimes not allow you to plug back in until restart.

Other Thoughts: After getting it put together and finally setup right, it seems good.

I have no idea if usb 3.0 works at its speeds as the driver would break windows

I've only had it about a week, I hope it lasts.

5 out of 5 eggsSUITABLE

Pros: I am using this board with g3258 in a tower I built to erase hdd s. It is a fast board for the price.

Cons: Lack of fan headers

Other Thoughts: This is a good board for an entry level build. A quality product if used as it was intended. I like MSI boards and will continue to use them in future builds.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but missing a few nice features

Pros: I got this to power a living room gaming box. I loaded it with an i3 4170 with a Cooler Master T2, 2x4GB ADATA RAM, and other stuff that doesn't matter for this review. The good news is it all fits, works as it should (I'm not overclocking anything), and I'm generally happy with it.

Cons: I was disappointed by two things:
1- There is no HDMI port on the back. Not a problem if using a video card, or VGA/DVI monitor. Small annoyance using it with a HDMI only TV.
2 - There is no onboard USB3.0 header to connect to the front panel of the case. There are two USB3.0 ports on the back, but it means using USB3.0 thumb sticks is a pain.

Lastly, not a true con (it is a mATX board after all), the cpu/ram spacing is tight. My T2 cooler hangs over the first ram stick. If the ram was any taller it wouldn't fit. So don't try mixing aftermarket coolers and tall ram.

Other Thoughts: If this had a USB3.0 header it would be an easy 5 eggs. As it is, it's still a great deal, just be sure you don't care about the few things it is missing.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

Pros: cheap for a lga 1150 mobo, has usb 3.0 ports in the back.

Cons: First only 2 sata ports are up to 6.0Gbps. Second it has NO usb 3.0 19-pin connector for the front. Most importantly, terrible product quality and customer service. 6 months after i bought it, with there were some windows 8 automatic repair failures, it seems to boot up slowly and get into windows 8 much slower than before. Few days ago, it cannot power on after I bought a new hard drive, until i swapped everything from my dad's desktop and scale the problem down to the malfunctioning mobo. I emailed msi and they did not reply, seriously why.

Other Thoughts: still have to buy since I need another mobo to replace it. Terrible product and customer service.

1 out of 5 eggsdon't buy

Pros: cheap, durable on paper, got usb 3.0 ports on the back. Good BIOS interface.

Cons: Terrible product quality, terrible customer service. After 6 months of running, with some windows 8 automatic repair failure, it seems to boot up slowly and get into windows 8 much slower than before. Few days ago, it cannot power on after I bought a new hard drive, I do not know why. I've swapped everything with my dad's desktop and scale down that it's the mobo's malfunctioning. I try to contact msi through email and they didnt even reply. But i still have to but this thing to replace the broken one for the price's sake. so stupid this product.

Other Thoughts: I would expect a better product/customer service than this from msi.
