4 out of 5 eggsSolid Motherboard with reasonable price

Pros: Who can resist the motherboard with solid performance and low price. MSI A78M-E45 FM2+/FM2 AMD A78(Bolton D3) appeals good performance, yet reasonable price with $10 mail-in-rebate.

I can navigate UEFI Bios menu easily, even one menu is dedicated for overclocking CPU and memory. I haven't fully tried out OC yet, but it seems easy to do OC with this motherboard.

Cons: I couldn't find to change AHCI/RAID in SATA option. Hope someone can help me to find this option in BIOS menu.

This motherboard has two chassis fan connectors (4-pin with sensor and 3-pin without sensor). It would be better if I have two fan connectors with sensor so that both fan speed can be adjusted. A fan runs 100% emits loud noise and generates vibration. I bet the lifespan of fan decreases as well as the fan runs with full blast whenever the PC is being used.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdated review

Pros: I already reviews this product once, but I wanted to add some additional information to help anyone out who might be having problems with this motherboard. See the "Other thoughts" below

-UEFI interface replaces BIOS and allows you to easily change your computer's settings with your mouse and keyboard instead of just a mouse
-Very easy to overclock CPU, GPU and RAM inside UEFI
-UEFI interface looks fantastic, if you're used to old BIOS you will be blown away! :)
-Seems high quality

Cons: Setting up the USB 3.0 ports might be confusing (see below)
Audio software may not work with your front panel audio without some adjustments

Other Thoughts: I ran into a few problems with this board but I'm sure most of them are probably my own fault.

First, the manual did not state whether to use a HD Audio or an AC'97 plug for front panel audio. The answer to that is HD Audio!

Second, the audio may sound funny if you use the great software (not being sarcastic here) for the RealTek audio. The problem I had was that I put the sound in a mode other than Stereo (I think I put it on surround sound or something like that) and when I tried to plug in headphones into my case's audio jack, the audio sounded all strange because it wasn't sending a stereo signal. If this happens to you, you need to open the RealTek audio manager and set it to Speaker.

And third and the most confusing, and embarrassing, is getting the USB 3.0 ports working. If you are the kind of gal like I am who goes online to get her drivers, you're going to hit a wall when it comes to getting the USB 3.0 working. The chipset drivers from MSI do not come with the drivers for the USB 3.0 ports. Instead, you find those **on the disc!** Just pop it in and click on Others, and you'll find an option to install the Renesas USB 3.0 drivers.

I hope this helps! This is my first custom build and these are the only problems I ran into luckily, and I hope this review will help anyone out there who has similar issues.

2 out of 5 eggsVery Disapointed

Pros: Good board layout, 3 fan headers, 4 USB 3's, 4 Ram slots.
That's what sold me, the obvious hardware (mistake).

Cons: Very poor Bios (sub-standard), Limited tweaking software, and horrible manual & documentation.

I have bought MSI before and liked it, but this board is horrible. I am not interested in OC'ing (chip i bought is fast enough), but I would like to set up things in Bios, like how much dedicated Video Ram my APU gets. Can't do it. I'd like to set up a Ram-Drive in Bios for temp files and browser cache. Cant do it. These features only avail on MSI top line A88M boards. Who knew?

Other Thoughts: Get the ASRock.
If i could do it all over again, i would :(

2 out of 5 eggsNot compatable with Ubuntu

Pros: - Cost efficient
- Bios is extremely easy to use.

Cons: - Flat out refuses to launch Ubuntu even on the latest BIOS. it starts booting then restarts the machine immediately. I have ruled out all other possible hardware issues, and have found multiple people online experiencing the same issue with MSI MoBos. Customer service says they don't provide service for Linux, which would be fine except NOWHERE on the product page or MSI's product page does it mention compatibility or support for one OS over another.

Other Thoughts: Replacing a motherboard is a real pain, and it is even more frustrating now that Linux support is standard for pretty much every other hardware manufacturer. I have not had this issue with any other MoBo. At least put a disclaimer somewhere saying that certain operating systems are not compatible or supported, or simply list ones that are if you aren't going to fix the issue through a bios update. I was planning to have my friend's system up and running tomorrow, and now it's going to take at least a week.

2 out of 5 eggsAll USB 3.0 Ports Stopped Working

Pros: Decent motherboard for $65 and fits my GTX 750 TI SC, has plenty of SATA connectors for 4 HDDs, 1 DVD drive, supports 8GB RAM @ 1300 MHz. Works well for AMD Athlon x4 760k if you DON'T plan on overclocking. Cool color scheme.

Cons: Title says it all. The USB 3.0 ports stopped working after 3 months in use. I had this motherboard for about 8 months now and this is the biggest problem for me. I am docking 2 eggs for this problem. This is extremely inconvenient to plug any USB device because I only have 4 USB 2.0 ports that work and they are only in the back of my computer case. I literally have to get on my knees to plug in my USB flash drive everytime. I had to get a USB extender cord so that my wireless keyboard and mouse can pick up the frequency from the USB since the front ports no longer works.

Another issue I am having is overclocking my CPU. I originally did not want to overclock when I built my computer but I wanted to give it a try when I bought a new CPU cooler. The "OC GENIE" feature in the BIOS only works for APU Kalveri models. My CPU is an AMD Athlon x4 760k @3.8GHz and wanted to OC it to 4.0GHz but I cannot do it. That is another egg docked.

Other Thoughts: Used this for my first build and now hoping to get rid of it ASAP. My next build will be a full size ATX MoBo. Wish it had more than 2 CPU fan connectors on MoBo, I had to connect additional fans to the PSU directly but that's what I get for getting a Micro ATX MoBo.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Its a fabulous upgrade from my old motherboard giving me just a great sign that its built for a gamer. it booted not to the hard drive first but the motherboard and it was a cool interface display showing you everything you needed to know about the motherboard.

Cons: I just wished it had the stand offs but no biggy.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't POST with Kaveri X4 860K

Pros: Price

Cons: Shipped with bios incompatible with Kaveri CPU X4 860K

Other Thoughts: I picked up this board on sale to use with an Athlon X4 860K cpu since everybody is raving at the price/performance of this setup. The new system powers up and fans spin but the mobo doesn't post or activate the display. I've tried multiple ram sticks, multiple GPU's but it won't post. I'm reading that it most likely shipped with bios that won't recognize Kaveri. Unfortunately you can't flash the bios if you can't post. If I need to buy an older chip just to post and flash the bios it defeats the purpose of picking up suck a cheap rig.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board for HTPC

Pros: Solid so far. Love that it has 4 rear USB 3.0 ports and SATA III on board, very few of the Intel boards give you that at this price, part of the reason I went with AMD for this HTPC application.

I paired this with an A8-7600 and GSkil Ares 2x4GB 2133 dimms and everything worked fine. I did have to bump up the memory speed in the bios, which set itself to 1600 in automagic mode to match the ram. No stability issues running at 2133.

Cons: None that I've encountered.

5 out of 5 eggsReasonably Priced and Reliable

Pros: No hassle set-up, reliable for almost a year

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: Have this mated with a 740 Quad-core Trinity, 1TB WD Blue HDD, Radeon HD7700, 8 GB HyperX Blu memory all powered by an EVGA 600B PSU. It's used as an HTPC and for some moderate gaming. Set up was a breeze. Haven't messed around with any over-clocking or BIOS updates. It's been running for almost a year non-stop. Would buy it all over again if given the chance
