5 out of 5 eggsSupported OS's

Pros: Someone said this board is not compatible with Linux. That is not true. A lot of manufacturers will say that their boards are not compatible with Linux. But really what they mean is that they will not support Linux. They do not want to train people on Linux especially since there are so many versions of Linux 100's of different distros. I have had Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, Red Hat, Arch Linux and Puppy Linux all running stable on this with no problems. The person who was complaining obviously does not have a high tech level knowledge. If they did they did they would know these fundamental things about Linux and how most manufacturers will not technically supported. If anything they have an average tech level knowledge. All these people on here who claim they have high tech level knowledge really irk me. Do you script in Bash? I do at a system admin level. I am also fluent in Perl, Python, C++ and SQL. I have also custom built desktops, torn apart many laptops down to the screens, built small and medium servers, set up networks up to 200 nodes. That is what a high tech knowledge is. Not someone who can barely install Linux. I've taught my 10 year old how to do that. Heck he can even call up terminals and run basic scripts in Linux command line.

It is obvious this person either had a defective motherboard, CPU or optical drive. Any of those three things would have caused this problem. The problem is without advanced equipment the only way to test for these is to swap out all the components in a machine and test with known good equipment until you find the part by process of elimination. This it tech support 101 stuff.

Cons: People who say they are tech level 5 when they are 1's 2's or 3's. Too many people think they are experts when they are clearly not.

Bad boards do happen now and then. It just happens. RMA your defective product. I have only had one motherboard that I ever RMA'd 3 times and it was a consistent manufacturing flaw. I've hard other boards that I have had to RMA but when I got the new one, they worked just fine. Then again most people don't build 100's of desktops and dozens of servers either.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great board paired with an a10 6800k cpu and 8gb ddr3 2133 fired up the first time perfectly. UEFI Bios are cool first time with those. Highly recommend for a new build very happy with the abundance of usb 3.0 ports and sata 3 6.0Gbps ports.

Cons: None so far, NewEgg jacked up the price as I was trying to order it but I complained through online chat and they comped me the difference not really a con but good customer service.

5 out of 5 eggsDa Bomb

Pros: Great Price.....Solid . Out of the box bolted up in the case and posted in under 15 min. Very fast and easy to operate. Lots of Bios options. On board Raid 1 is up and running. Windows 7 Pro installed. No problems in the process.. A caveman could do it.

Cons: I'm not one to use any third party software to do my dirty work but i did try some of the utility's on the disk just to see. Yes there is a problem withUpdate 5 software but seems to be only if you update the update 5 software. it is nice to pull down the latest drivers right from the desktop.

Other Thoughts: Built on top of it with AMD A10-6800K Richland 4.1GHz (4.4GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 100W Quad-Core, Team Zeus Yellow 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 Running RAID 1 with 2 x 1 TB 7200 6GB/s.
Windows Experience High 7.3 to low 6.7 "6.7" is the number they gave me..........Get you one.....If you are a gamer add high end graphics board. I'm a business man and this config has me doing business as fast as I can.....peace...

4 out of 5 eggsEasy as heck to overclock but driver problems galore

Pros: This mainboard is great and easy to setup. I like the menu options to control fan speed, CPU clock, memory clock, etc. Easy to adjust and takes adjustments well.

Cons: Live Update 5 did NOT work for my build. Seems to be a somewhat common problem. I had to flash the BIOS with a new update from MSI. This wasn't intuitive in the BIOS either--it was in the BIOS and not CMOS. But it took well.

Even with the BIOS flash the board would NOT take Renesas USB 3.0 updates at all. I found their driver and loaded it myself and --voila-- it worked. But Live Update 5 thought it wasn't installed, when it was.

Other Thoughts: I love this board, and despite the goofies, I would definitely buy it again, and likely will.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid MB

Pros: Solid MB at price point.
Good for general purpose computing,

Cons: Would like more PCI slots, but for price point, adequate.

Other Thoughts: VGA not as crisp with text as DVI/HDMI

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Ton of features for the price, like 4 DIMM slots, two PCI-E 16x (physical) slots, passive VRM heatsink, four rear USB ports, HDMI, etc.

Installed and ran without a hitch. Good performance, decent BIOS with lots of overclocking and advanced options.

Cons: None that I can remember.

Other Thoughts: Solid board with an extremely attractive price. It's priced right with budget boards, but has a lot of features you generally find on more expensive boards aimed at enthusiasts.

Paired this with an A10-6790K processor and 8gb of DDR3-2133 RAM. If I'm remembering correctly, this automatically set the RAM to the XMP profile settings, which is rare for an AMD based board. Saves a LOT of time not having to manually input settings.

Very glad I bought this board and would definitely buy it again.

Have had very good luck with MSI boards over the last 10+ years. They build a quality product at affordable prices, and their BIOS has a lot of extra settings (especially those aimed at overclocking) compared to other boards in a given price range.

1 out of 5 eggspoor engineering

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Does NOT support Linux. See below.

Other Thoughts: Could not install Win 7-64 or Win 8, would stop just past the OS splash screen. Tried different BIOS settings, RAM, hard drive, video cards, etc. MSI tech suport unable to resolve. Passed Memtest86, would even boot miniXP on Hirens. Also MSI tech support says they do not support Linux. Who makes motherboards that won't support Linux??? Returning for refund.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI A78M MoBo

Pros: RMA from newegg was fast and professional.

Cons: None really if the RMA works

Other Thoughts: Wrote a review on this MoBo 3-14-14 and it was good then. The second day the customer went to boot up it didn't. Something happened with the MoBo I think maybe a capacitor maybe. Anyway RMA'ed it so the mfg could check what went wrong on it. Have used this MoBo several times in builds and they make nice systems. Sometimes things just break . I will still use this MoBo for builds in customer systems when they want just a simple system.

5 out of 5 eggsBusy Bios

Pros: Compact, well engineered. Easy OC feature. I like MSI and Asrock motherboards.

Cons: Not sure

Other Thoughts: Went togather easy enough. Had to reset bios several times (and play w settings) before I could get a clean boot (sometimes it didn't post at all) w Dual graphics HD6450 add in card. Once I got it stable I saw roughly 1500 points difference on 3d mark 2k1 using the easy OC button in bios. There are LOTS of settings in the bios. I had/have a comparable FM2 gigabyte board but this has more features. I have been fixing/building computers for over 20yrs. This was not the easiest build w windows 8 install but I'm not sure if my Saphire video card was 100% compatable. No bios flash from OS - must use usb drive.
