USB Audio Power

USB Audio Power is a breakthrough in Home Theater Entertainment audio quality. Using an unique design, the USB ports onboard provide a TRUE 5V signal that doesn't drop when more devices are connected. This simply means better signal quality over USB, especially for devices that rely on a perfect signal, like USB DAC's as they rely on a perfect transmission of audio bits from the motherboard to the DAC. This also means that external low-noise power supplies are no longer essential for better audio quality as USB Audio Power is able to deliver an optimum USB signal.

2 out of 5 eggsfollow up...

Pros: .......

Cons: after a response from MSI to check everything, which i did, i took off everything and started from scratch. BIOS not showing after pressing the OC Genie button still happens. when it shows it will work. sometimes just a simple BIOS change on the north bridge settings from AUTO to DUAL GRAPHICS, no BIOS would show i even changed my monitor cable from PCI to motherboard just to check. i have to reset BIOS everytime.

Other Thoughts: if your going for SLI or Crossfire, forget about using the USB 3. if your case has a thick cable for the USB 3, it won't work as the graphics card is very close to the USB 3 connection, you can't install a graphics card with a USB 3 cable underneath. you can use the USB 2 connection only.

1 out of 5 eggsWHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME??

Pros: my first motherboard ASRock FM2A88M Extreme4+ was making problems, everytime i make make OC settings(not manual but automatic recommended by A-Tuning) my computer won't even boot to BIOS. i returned it for this motherboard. first time use was awesome. no OC settings yet and frame rates was spectacular playing titanfall. ASROCK was bottlenecking my rig. however....

Cons: .....when i replaced my case, things went sideways. first i was getting 99 error on the screen and no BIOS showing. i checked and rechecked my connections and reset my BIOS. then A2 showed on my screen, NO BIOS STILL. i contacted MSI thru their website, got a ticket TS103114027070. NO RESPONSE. i dismantled everything again and everything went fine again. NOW, ONCE IN A WHILE WHEN I PRESS THE OC GENIE, BIOS WON'T SHOW. i just have to wait, unplug my power try here and there. THIS IS MY FINAL ATTEMPT TO TRY REBOOT AND THEN WILL RMA.

Other Thoughts: i also have a MSI Motherboard, Z87 MPOWER SP and i love it. i also bought an MSI R7 260. why are they doing this to me?

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Mobo

Pros: This mobo has plenty of features for a small AMD setup. There is good sound 3 fan headers 2 on board and 1 cpu. good amount of usb 3 headers for a MATX setup. Great VRM cooling.

Cons: The bios version is 1.0 so you will need a 6000 series or 7000 series APU to update bios if you want to use an 860k Athlon

Other Thoughts: The 860k CPU and any other CPU can have the multiplier changed, but you have to use the + or - sign to do it, not the mouse. I see reviewers complaining that they can't make changes. Anyone reading the review should complain about the competency and knowledge of the people writing reviews. You might have sounds issues, but I found that this was due to conflicts between Realtek, AMD, and SoundBlaster drivers. it's simple, pick one software driver for your system and don't install the others. I have Corsair 1866 Mhz Vengeance ram. It is CL9, but 2T command rate. This board set it to 1T command rate when I enabled XMP, and it runs at that rate with no errors. I consider that a plus. Don't listen to all those bad reviews. This board is quite capable. The people having all those issues are the ones who are not capable. I'm sure there are better boards out there, but I have been running tests and benchmarks 24/7 since I have had this board. No problems so far. Just the standard software issues that always come from 2 or 3 separate programs that are trying to step on each other to perform the same task. like 3 sound drivers on one board.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board, Terrible Overclock Features

Pros: -it has heatsinks on practically everything
-Good control over voltages and RAM speeds
-Built in auto overclock which is sufficent for everyday use and stable, though slightly over volted
-Precise control over case and cpu fans
-mATX form factor

Cons: -Cant manually change cpu multiplier in bios on an Athlon 860k
-MSI Command Center allows multipliers to be changed, but when rebooting after change the board resets back to default settings unless at stock or auto-overclock multipliers.

Other Thoughts: For stock or mild overclock with preset values, this board is nice. But if you want to do anything more look elsewhere. Granted, this could be an issue with the chip. But, theres no reason for it.

The Athlon 860k is supported with bios version 1.1. It comes with version 1.0. So you have to have an older supported chip on hand, flash the bios, then put in the 860k.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Micro ATX APU board

Pros: Only KV APU that has a display port...Works great with ASUS monitors..

Cons: XMP memory profiles don't work. You need AMP

Other Thoughts: I am running HDMI 2500X1600

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect board

Pros: This board so far runs great and fast with an A10 7850 APU and SSD, 8GB Mem. Boots extremely fast. If it wasn't for the same Display port issue I am having as Joshua back in July, this MOBO would be a perfect 5 Egg

Cons: I can't seem to get any video signal out of my display port.
I've tried all different scenarios but still no signal.
If I were MSI I would concentrate on this issue for this board because display port is becoming the savior for many people's video and audio issues.

Other Thoughts: If this display port issue is not permanent, I would definitely upgrade my other PC to this board.

1 out of 5 eggsWasted money and time

Pros: I have nothing positive to say about this board. Nice color didn't make it perform as it was advertised. 32 GB Memory a fast processor and nothing.

Cons: My 8086 performed better than this thing. I've wasted time a money. On both board and processor. Will drop AMD for good. This is a gaming board which should perform good even when you're not gaming. Well this is not the case, I don't do games.

Other Thoughts: .

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost an Excellent A88X Board...

Pros: - Pretty much every feature that you would want on a A88X Kaveri ready motherboard.
- Full size ATX features on a Micro ATX board.
- Excellent Build Quality, and Color Scheme
- Great Bios interface
- Very Good overclocking ability and tools
- Heatsinks on mosfets, most APU boards dont have these, allowing for good overclocking.
- Price vs Quality, probably best A88X motherboard you can buy.

Cons: HDMI issues.

I have spent all weekend trying to diagnose HDMI audio stutters. I do not use the APU IGP, I have an MSI R9 270x that I use via HDMI connected to a surround receiver. The PCM audio is just flat out flakey over HDMI, i get skipping and PCM stream dropouts like crazy.

I have done the following:
- Upgraded/Downgraded/Adjusted everything related to AMD catalyst drivers. Not sure that it's a driver issue at this point.
- Adjusted every bios setting possible. HPET, disable on board sound (Realtek), disabled power saving features, disabled IGP. Still get HDMI audio skipping.
- Swapped video cards for another known working AMD video card, still get audio skipping/dropouts.
- Tried different HDMI cable.
- Tried different ports on the surround receiver.
- Tried stock clock speed, everything auto, no change.

Just for FYI, I came from an Asrock A88X mini itx board, great little board but is unstable when overclocking. Sound over HDMI and via onboard Realtek worked just fine (same video card).

Would rather not use onboard Realtek optical out, because you only get 2 channel PCM, no option for 5.1 over optical.

Recommendations:

PLEASE MSI PUT OUT A BIOS UPDATE. The last bios Update was on 03-19-2014. That is over 5 months ago (Version 1.1). Totally inexcusable.

The bios looks great and has great overclocking features, but the options for all your other standard features such as adjusting PCI-E options and onboard peripherals are just straight up paltry and sad.
I have read that HDMI issues might be due to running in PCI-E 3.0 mode, which offers somewhat negligible benefits for mid range cards. But there is no bios setting to adjust PCI-E Gen (1.1, 2.0, 3.0).

Can't adjust voltage to PCI-E slots. Can't do much in the bios other than overclocking and adjust boot settings. Bioses were originally designed to allow complete customization of computer operations, not to look pretty.

Other Thoughts: I want to love this board, I really do. It's the best Micro ATX A88X option out there right now. But tech issues and lack of support just make it a mediocre board currently. If we could get some support on the MSI forums or via bios updates that would easily make this a 5 egg board.

I don't know if it's just a bad board or not, but I would rather not have to RMA it to replace it with another board just to wind up with the same issue.

This motherboard is basically your supermodel girlfriend that has personality issues. You want to love it and yet you want to toss it out the window at the same time.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing, very frustrating

Pros: The only mATX AMD motherboard I could find with Display Port

Cons: MSI was always a trusted brand with me but this motherboard was nothing but trouble from the get go. I had multiple BSOD's, extremely slow software installations, spontaneous reboots and no sound function at all...just to name a few. I finally ordered an ASUS A88X-PRO and RMA'd the MSI board. I was braced for trouble in case I had missed something with the MSI board but the difference was day and night. The ASUS board installed like a dream with no problems whatsoever. I've had MSI mb's in the past and I thought they were just fine. I hope my experience was just a anomaly and not an indication of bigger problems with MSI.

Other Thoughts: I googled the problem with sound and it turns out this board has a reputation for this issue. I could never get it to make sound with its resident on board sound system.

1 out of 5 eggsDisplayPort = FAKE

Pros: All four slots are PCIe -- no wasted legacy PCI slots.

Cons: DisplayPort is useless. While I can get it to work with my LG Ultrawide monitor with certified DP cable, it ceases to operate once the screen "goes to sleep" and does not wake up.
This problem does not happen with the HDMI output which wakes the same display up properly.
I have had multiple calls into MSI tech support and no one there was able to assist me. They all say that DP on the motherboard is this way by design -- which is completely stupid because then why have a DP!?!??!!?? What computer built in in the last 15 years doesn't put the monitor to sleep??
Also, this does not appear to be an issue with other MSI boards which have DP outputs and is unique to the A88XM Gaming.

Other Thoughts: I swapped out a perfectly good Asus A88XM Plus motherboard for the MSI Gaming board so that I could benefit from the DisplayPort and all I did was get a headache and awful technical support.
