USB Audio Power

USB Audio Power is a breakthrough in Home Theater Entertainment audio quality. Using an unique design, the USB ports onboard provide a TRUE 5V signal that doesn't drop when more devices are connected.This simply means better signal quality over USB, especially for devices that rely on a perfect signal, like USB DAC's as they rely on a perfect transmission of audio bits from the motherboard to the DAC. This also means that external low-noise power supplies are no longer essential for better audio quality as USB Audio Power is able to deliver an optimum USB signal.

1 out of 5 eggsA88xm Gaming Motherboard

Pros: The Bios for this motherboard is amazing. It has an incredibly user friendly interface.

Cons: I went with this, AMD FM2/FM2+, motherboard specifically because of the "military class 4 components". After comparing other boards in the same price range, the military class 4 components were the deal breaker that swayed me to pick the MSI A88xm Gaming. However, upon receiving the motherboard I was very disappointed when I opened the box (which was curiously not sealed), to find that one of the clips on the second ram slot was broken. The plastic clip had been snapped off, and suspiciously placed back on the motherboard. Furthermore, while building the computer I removed and reinserted the CMOS battery. I did this very gently, as I would with any given computer component. When the CMOS battery snapped back into place, a capacitor next to the CMOS snapped off the board. I didn't even touch the capacitor, it just basically fell off on it's own. It's ironic because MSI is advertising the military class 4 components, or more specifically, their Hi-C capacitor's.
The computer I was building was for someone else, I had little time to complete the build, and certainly not enough time to prove to MSI that it was their poor manufacturing that caused the damage to the motherboard. I couldn't in good conscious put this motherboard in the build with an already broken Ram slot, and now a missing capacitor, so I threw the motherboard in the trash and used a different motherboard. I feel very ripped off to say the least.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI comes through again!

Pros: The OC Genie works nicely as does the ramdisk which can be configured through the control center software. VRM heatsink(s) are large but not enough to get in the way of anything. Built a machine from this board to replace my old MSI GT-60 and it does not disappoint.

Cons: None yet...

1 out of 5 eggsJUST LAME

Pros: I bought this because it had 2 pcie 3.0 slots and a space between for dual vid cards to breath. Put it in a cube case that has 5 expansion slots so that I could upgrade to dual R9 290x cards. USB 3.0 header. Support for 2400+ MHz RAM. Newegg Fast low cost shipping.

Cons: USB 3.0 header supidly placed where it is unusable if you put a pair of double slot vid cards on it. Stopped working after 16 days of use exactly 3 days past Newegg's RMA window. Had no choice but to RMA to MSI see other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: . I placed an X4 860K Athlon on it as I had no desire to over pay for gpu's I could not / would not use. Mobo sat in it's box for a little over 2 weeks while I waited for a vid card that was over budget at the time I ordered this and a case I iked better for it. I put system together it ran for 16 days and then went dark. The fans spooled up fine, no display. I Tested my vid card first in secondary system it was fine and I swapped all components on the board out with known good ones even placed a spare APU on it, nothing but fans running. So.... at this time I'm 3 days past being able to rma to NewEgg. I contact MSI they give me an RMA I pay 25 bucks to send it to them they send me a refurb back. The whole RMA process takes about 16 days. Excited to be able to put my new gaming rig back together I open the box to find that in place of my pristine new mobo I now have a dusty dirty and scuffed up one with what looks like bits of thermal compound in the socket holes. Of course I call MSI and after an hr and a half get a person to talk to who seems eager to help. For the purpose of documentation I route all communication from here out through email. At this point I believe MSI has the moral and ethical obligation to provide me with a brand new mobo and I explain this politely along with sending pics of the damaged unacceptable mobo. Reply comes back my statement about the new mobo ignored and they keep talking refurb back and forth 2 more times finally my new mobo expectation gets addressed with *gasp!* an excuse that they don't have any new ones they can send. *add sarcasm*I must be stupid at this point because surely I've never heard of a thing known as "DROP SHIPPING". I politely again explain that I know better than that and that if the assisting tech is unable to make this right he needs to pass this along to his boss or even his boss's boss as in to someone with the authority and willingness to make this right and that my new system has been down now for longer than it had ran, 4 weeks down vs. 16 days running. I get another reply that he has looked again and has no new mobo to send me. I have since dropped about 750 bucks on an intel board not made by MSI and the i7 devil's canyon 4.0ghz cpu to go on it with 32 gig of ram. At this point my closing thoughts are simply EffEmmEssEye, They might have nice stuff when it runs but their support and service earns them a place in the corporate garbage dump as far as I’m concerned. This was my first and last MSI product. I built my first comp in 1998 and have built 30 to 40 systems since and never had this sort of issue with a manufacturer.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this board

Pros: it works as expected, like the red/black theme. Very nice BIOS options. OC Genie

Cons: SATA ports are laying on their sides instead of facing up, which made half of them unusable in the case I bought ( DIYPC Solo-T1-R Black ).

Other Thoughts: This board started right up with no issues.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy installation, good options

Pros: * Well-reviewed in tech press
* Good English language documentation
* Decent component layout
* Interesting BIOS, a bit flashy
* Dual UEFI/Normal BIOS choices
* Physical reset, boot, optimize buttons on board, lit and easy to see.
* AMD processors easy to install. Just pop in, no pressing.
* Lots of indicators, controls and detectors for fan speeds, voltages and temperatures, just about everything. This is not a BIOS short on information.
* One step overclocking.

Cons: * Memory modules go in hard. Took quite bit of pressure to install..
* UEFI BIOS doesn't have explicit unprotect option
* Be careful correctly aligning gold triangle on CPU with socket. Motherboard doesn't have clear indication or mark to orient CPU correctly. *REFER TO DOCUMENTATION FOR THIS*
* Put in DDR3-2400 memory, but it only underclocks it in default setting as DDR3-1600. This can be adjusted.
* SATA edge mount connectors are just awkward.

Other Thoughts: The manual is an important thing with this motherboard, and it's reasonably clear and well-written. You'll find critical information in there. A must-read carefully thing. This is a fairly high-quality item, so you can expect a better experience than you may have had in the past with DIY builds. However, it's not necessary to press the CPU into the socket. Just orient correctly, drop in and close the latch. Easiest install I've had. But read the manual, important!

5 out of 5 eggsAfter Months of use and Much Testing

Pros: Excellent!
After many months of use and testing with Win7-64, Win8.1 x64 and 3 flavors of Win10 Preview, not to mention Mint Linux 17.1 KDE x64, I have to say that this is one amazingly well designed computing foundation!

I have now done approx. 20 systems from professional workstations to lite Gaming rigs, even one Workgroup server using the A88XM Gaming mobo. It worked shocking well even as a lite File Server due in part to the speedy “Killer” networking controller…

As a professional workstation platform with A10-7700, 16GB G.Skill DDR2400 (running at 2133), Samsung 850 Pro SSD or AMD SSD, the A88XM Gaming has showed itself as the best low cost, highend, workstation platform I’ve ever had the pleasure of building…

Cons: I can’t really speak to the Display Port issue some have mentioned since we only support certain Video Controllers for clients with Display Port equipped diaplays…

However, I am quite shocked to see so many people with High Tech expertise having issues, some of these are clearly not following Anti-Static protocols, doing proper Bios firmware updates BEFORE anything else and insuring proper driver installations immediately following From Scratch Installations… These are All Super Important! Having said this I am also sure that some of these were indeed as they appear and stated…

Other Thoughts: Final Note:
You get what you pay for! So don’t get junky memory, thermal paste or cheap CPU coolers. I recommend:
>G.Skill Trident DDR3 2400 (16GBs, 8GBs if you have to). >Arctic Silver Thermal paste is worth it’s price times 10!
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6922R12413&cm_re=arctic_silver_5_thermal_compound-_-35-100-007-_-Product).
>240GB AMD SSD in your build
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820228119&cm_re=amd_ssd-_-20-228-119-_-Product), with the right drivers, it’s awesome and even looks great with the A88XM Gaming MoBo!
>The Samsung 850 Pro is slightly faster (WITH the right drivers! + 10 yr. Warranty!
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147360&cm_re=samsung_850_pro-_-20-147-360-_-Product)

Do your build justice and it will succeed handsomely!

1 out of 5 eggsDon't purchase with a Athlon 860k

Pros: Motherboard looks solid and has many features, but don't buy the bundle they are offering with the 860k CPU unless you have an older CPU in order to flash the bios to make it work. I didn't bother to research this before o bought the bundle now I'm without a computer till I get this resolved.

Cons: Shipped with old bios, won't work with 860k CPU sold together with this MB as a bundle.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2).
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

2 out of 5 eggsshipped with first bios version...

Pros: It is a very good mobo once I got it to function. I have the 970 version and the z97 version and enjoy them both. I usually get MSI mobos for durability and reliability reasons, but go with Gigabyte mobos when I want bells and whistles. This mobo (on the other chipsets) did both, and still does for the A88X chipset, but fought me thru the install process...

good bios, good cooling ability, very good built in sound, precise voltage control are all reasons why I like this Mobo...

Cons: was shipped with bios version 1.0. not really MSI's fault but I had to use my older A6 to get it to post to allow me to update the bios so i could put my 860k in. the manual (both on paper and thru the website) tells me to install the RAM on DIMM 4 and 2 for two sticks. however, it would not post that way and I needed to put RAM in DIMM 1 and 3. the print on the Mobo for what DIMM is which is incorrect from what bios says (and that is kinda common with other MSI boards i have owned). I have noticed that almost all my MSI mobo don't give me any "beep" codes, but i never needed that info until i messed with this board. i had to go thru the parts bucket to figure why it would post, only to find it was the issue of where the RAM was installed (DIMM 4 was ok with one stick, DIMM 3/2/1 wouldn't post with one stick. DIMM 1 and 3 was the only way it would post with 2 sticks). if the manual told me DIMM 1 and 3, and or i had the beeps to guide me, a 30 minute build wouldn't take 3 hours of swapping stuff around...

Other Thoughts: it works, and it does work well....have it paired with the 860k and a 750Ti and 8 gigs of Gskill RAM. blows my FX8350 (with the same GPU in a 990FX mobo) out of the water when it comes to games, general use and boot up time. this mobo overclocks very well and keeps stable more than any other MSI or Gigabyte Mobo i have ever used.....just put the RAM in DIMM 1 and 3 first...
