5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

Pros: Great looking is a priority for me. I love the ease of installing the different components, although I am not good at cable management. The motherboard came in perfect shape, but was a little "loose" in the packaging. Definitely a step up from my previous build in speed as well as features. The Network Killer is amazing, I went from 35mbps WiFi to 70mbps with a cheap Ethernet cable. I haven't used the overclocking feature yet as the motherboard hasn't given me a reason to turn it on. I would recommend bumping your graphics if affordable, I have a GeForce 560 and it leaves a LOT to be desired with this build. Also, the only thing I can say about sound blaster is that it is utterly breathtaking with the right audio equipment.

Cons: On Board Graphics didn't pick up my monitor when I turned it on. I believe this may be a flaw in my monitor as it happened with my original build as well.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: Looks good, good features

Cons: Well for starters I got this in the mail a few weeks ago. Installed it to find out one of the cpu pins were missing. Then I send it to be replaced through RMA only to have usps "lose" my package for about two weeks. Then I finally get an email of the assessment of the motherboard and newegg says it can't be replaced cause of damage beyond the warranty when I didn't even get to use it once. I took it out of the box put it in the tower it didn't work and I put it back in the box and emailed for an rma that is all. so now I have to message msi to see if they will replace it so now I have to wait yet another week or so, so that I can have the serial number etc for when I contact msi. Needless to say I am disgusted with this. I paid for a motherboard that I never even got to use once and has been nothing but a hassle since. I will never buy another msi product and I am thinking of taking my business from newegg all together.

Other Thoughts: With so many reviews about this same situation you would think a company would take the time to recall the messed up ones so that this doesn't happen to customers but I guess "valued" customers isn't the case anymore :/

1 out of 5 eggsMSI Z97-GD65

Pros: it comes with cool overclocking software

Cons: the main PCI-E slot doesent function right, display driver failure upon any load, failure to boot ect. and the internet adapter is shoddy, constantly loosing connection and having to reboot.

Other Thoughts: it's as if they just sent me somthing that people have returned, probably thinking that i wouldent notice.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you described, many reasons can cause the situation like this. We suggest you try the following steps:
1. Power down system, test with minimum components (1 stick of ram, video, CPU power supply).
2. Clear cmos, verify the card you install to the PCI-E slot.
3. Ar eyou able to boot up system? If so, pelase update board to latest BIOS (Provided from our website www.msi.com) and retest.
For additional troubleshooting and supports please feel free to contact MSI team directly for assistance at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific Time.

4 out of 5 eggsFairly awesome

Pros: Seems great so far, though I have yet to explore many settings.

Cons: Wont detect 5.1 Klipsch speakers over the digital optical cable as 5.1 and only as stereo, also wont let me increase speaker frequency above 48Khz. to the 192Khz it was on my old system.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't update BIOS if you have RAID 0

Pros: was working fine before BIOS update

Cons: Updating BIOS broke my RAID0 setup. All information is loss.

Other Thoughts: MSI should put a disclaimer that if you have RAID0 setup, updating the BIOS will brake RAID. Called MSI but was pretty much told I'm out of luck. Be WARNED! now, all my information is loss! Last MSI product I will ever buy.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsBroken cpu pin

Pros: Looks really good seems to have many very good features for overclocking and audio.

Cons: Got the board and was happy to get a z97 board that looks great and seems to have great features but after everything was installed it would light up fans would come on but would reboot after a second and would do nothing but repeat and this is usually an error with the cpu or connection so I unhooked everything thinking it was a bent pin since I had read other reviews stating that problem but on closer inspection a pin was missing completely. have an rma and hopefully I can get a new board with all the pins. knocked off two eggs cause its supposed to be military grade parts etc, so there should be no broken parts but ive gotten many parts from newegg and this is the first broken part I received so I wont blame them for a bad egg no pun intended. will give another review when I get a new board and can actually use it.

Other Thoughts: After I saw the broken pin I reinstalled my previous motherboard and no problems. working as it should and just so happens to be an msi board.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome.

Pros: Looks, functionality, bios, price.

Cons: See other thoughts. Not really cons, but notes.

Other Thoughts: You will need to load the Killer Nic driver. Then it associates with a program that is set to open on start-up. I disabled it because in my 5 minutes of using it, it seemed to throttle my speeds. I'd like to see the NIC be standard 10/100/1000.

All in all, very happy.

2 out of 5 eggsBad LGA 1150 Pin

Pros: Works. I like the internal power/reset buttons so I could do quick tests without having to hook up the front panel power. The layout of the board appears to be adequate. No funny business so far.

Cons: Several pins on the LGA1150 socket were bent when they arrived. Minor askew pins, easy fix.

However, the reason that I am rating this so low is because one of the pins had it's tip in what I expect is the factory default position, flat against the body of the pin. With the pin like this it did not make contact with the cpu. The pin in question made the system not boot if dimm 3 or 4 are used.

I am rating this an extra egg lower then I would have because I found that this is not an isolated case, a quick google search for "z97 gd65 memory not working" give a couple results on tomshardwareguide where this has popped up for other users.

It sounds like the machine that should be putting these pins into the right shape was misaligned for a batch of these boards. It's certainly not all of them, but it's worth the company's time to recall this batch.

Other Thoughts: Since the chipset is made by the chipset manufacturer, my chief concern for grading a motherboard is that the mounts, ports and layout are good.

Making a failure that would get 99% of users to have to RMA is poor service, even if the RMA process would have been easy (which I don't know if it would have been).

That being said, if you don't mind getting reader glasses, a cellphone flashlight, and a pin/needle to manipulate the pins, you might be able to fix this board too (if you get a lemon, I see a lot of users who've not had this issue).

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsIf not for the bios

Pros: Decent layout and room on board.

Cons: Would be great if it doesnt brick when u update it. Did the M-FLASH method...dead 00. Did the Liveupdate on second board ....dead. I wont be buying anymore MSI products.
