5 out of 5 eggsEasy Install with Intel 4790

Pros: Easy to understand manual and feature packed motherboard. Was able to overclock to 4.5 in no time at all utilizing Command Center and OC Genie (I also run a 240mm Coolmaster radiator). Comes with two CPU fan headers which was a plus for me as I run water cooled with two radiator fans. Has two stored BIOS via a switch setting in case one becomes corrupt. Lit and easy to read buttons for Power, Reset, Overclock (OC) Genie. LED lights to indicate which BIOS (A or B) is active, what mode OC Genie is in (1 or 2), and 2 digit BIOS debug code. Command Center software allow you to overclock CPU, memory, setup fan speeds, warning, etc. without having to go to BIOS.

Cons: CD installation disk comes with all drivers and software checked for installation. Lot's of extra software that for many, including myself, I would label as bloatware. Wish suppliers would only check by default those drivers that are absolutely necessary for Motherboard to function properly. Feel sorry for those who simply continue the setup and every add-on software gets installed many of which run in the background chewing up their memory usage and enlarging their registry and load up times. As I use this setup exclusively for Flight Simulation I uncheck most of the extra software. I do, however, recommend installing MSI Command Center. Very useful program for this motherboard. At least MSI provides you with a second manual that explains most of the extra software that comes on the installation CD. For that reason I won't deduct an egg.

Other Thoughts: My first MSI motherboard. All previous have been Gigabyte with AMD processors. I'm very pleased with this as I found the BIOS easy to follow and understand as well as their add-on Command Center software. Manual well written.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this board

Pros: I love this board. The bios is a bit more in depth than my old board but it is very easy to figure it out and the co genie works great for an easy oc that's stable. In stalls easy works great.
Awesome design.
Great documentation included.
Has alot of features for great ocing and customization.

Cons: While I love this board and some of the cons are not entirely related to the board thought I should give a few heads up.
Depending on graphics card size it will probably cover up the dragon (one reason I bought the board)
Be careful of MSi and intel fast boot software it will prevent you from going to bios and if its like me the program wouldn't let me go back to bios which was very annoying but an easy fix once i got everything sorted out.
The cpu bracket is a very tight fit. I had to make sure i had it in right multiple times because it felt as if i was going to break the board or my cpu but it works fine.
One program called sound blaster cinema will only work if you are not using hdmi. So once you install please note this because it took me while to figure it out (it doesn't really do that much).

Other Thoughts: For only spending around 40 more dollars than the last board I had the quality of the board (look, feel, bios) it feels like a 300 dollar board. I am very pleased with this product and if this is the type of quality msi puts out I may very well start buying more products from them.
I would definitely recommend this board to a friend.

2 out of 5 eggsHalfway to DOA

Pros: The board components are well laid out and easy to reach during assembly.

Cons: The board components are well laid out - now if they'd just work.

I intended for this to be used with two of MSI's own GTX 970 cards in SLI, but the second PCIe x16 slot is dead as a doorknob. The cutesy little graphical diagram in the BIOS that is supposed to show what is plugged into the board and inserted into the slots merrily reports the second PCIe x16 slot as empty with one of the GTX 970s plugged in. The same card swapped into the first PCIe x16 slot works just fine. Even running with one card, I didn't get far - the OS (Win 7) would boot fine but installation of the chipset software and NIC drivers would simply refuse to complete - the NIC driver install would actually time out. After several nights of testing the board and the two GTX 970s in varying slot positions, I have given up on any miracles and will now hope that its replacement will work as intended. You would think a motherboard and two video cards, all from the same manufacturer, would stand a better chance than this of working together, but such is not the case.

Other Thoughts: Two stars because I am not completely sworn off MSI or trying to get this video card/motherboard combination to work. That all could change very quickly if the replacement has the same issues, however.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, Quality, Reliable

Pros: Supports 3way Crossfire.
De-Bug LED.
OCGenie, power and reset buttons.
Supports high MHz Ram speeds.
mSATA port.
BIOS is easy to navigate.
cool looking MSI Dragon Mossfet heatsink(if you can see it in your build)
Manual Voltage Checks

Stable enough of a board for OCing,

So leaving on all Intel powersaving settings and only manualy adjusting the multi and cpu voltage, aida64 passed with 4hr 4.7 @ 1.232v but failed occt in 6 min, upping the voltage resulted in a final stable 24/7 OC of 4.7GHz @ 1.272v (full load CPUID Hardware Monitor) 2400MHz GSKILL Tritan 2x8GB DDR3, occt (8hr) and aida 64 (8 hr) stress test stable (4 hrs is more than enough i just left it going while i went to work) regardless... 4.7 is good for under 1.3v max 65 Deg max temp (EK waterblock), 4.8GHz just isnt worth going over 1.3v on my chip the performance gain between 4.7 and 4.8 is negligible.

Dont use Prime95, it is not optimized for haswell chips and will simply near instantly overheat haswell to the point of thermal throttling(92c) at STOCK SETTINGS.

Intel burn test can be used at stock settings but will also thermal throttle with light to moderate OC'ing, if youve got a fantastic high OC chip which allows low stable volts, you could use this to test max temp but not really necessary.

Aida64 is too light to find all imperfections so use aida64 to get close then use OCCT to finalize your OC.
the more tests you can pass the more stable you should be.
This has been running for 90 days straight editing, gaming, light application, no issues.

Cons: No Red line LED
I dont like the BIOS identifier LED... Blue (BIOS A) Green BIOS B) just doesnt fit with the black and red asthetics of the board.

Power buttons and DE-BUG led's are green and once again do not match asthetics of the board, would have made sence and looked better with red all around.

The dual BIOS A/B LED colors seems quite useless in my mind.

Would have liked the mSATA to connect via PCI/E slot rather than the SATA 6 slot, loosing a port isnt the worst deal ever but limits potential of the board.

OC Genie simply puts the cpu into fulltime turbo and overvolts it way too high, what it wanted to give an i7-4790k was 4.4GHz at 1.28_v

If running a X-Fire system it is sad to see the Clear BIOS pins are hiding under your graphics card,

The power/Reset/OC buttons are poorly positioned on the bottom of the board and would have been great at the upper right of the board by the DDR3 slots.

Other Thoughts: I would buy this board again, I got it at a fantastic price and mail in rebate and have had no issues with this board and BIOS is easy, keep in mind this board is basicly just an upgraded z-87 board.
you could probably hard core OC with this board but Im not that geeky.

Stable board with lots of features !!!
Ram disk available through motherboard bios .
Great color Combo !!!
Plenty of sata ports !!!

Not really a con but i almost ran out of usb ports .
My keyboard requires 2 inputs , my external hard drive 1 , the mouse 1 , My joystick 1 . Other than that the board is great !!!! Just look for what you need in a motherboard and you will be fine :)

4 out of 5 eggsOnly minor issues

Pros: Looks good
Supports SLI

Cons: PCI-E slot #1 doesn't work when a graphics card is installed in Slot 2 (the main one)

OC Genie is trash, caused my computer to crash multiple times

I wish it had one more fan header or a molex connection

Other Thoughts: The BIOS is nice, I just wish that the onboard OC software was better.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board, We'll See How It Holds Up.

Pros: Motherboard has been fantastic so far. The OC Genie is fantastic and makes overclocking easy with my i5 4690K Devils Canyon. I love the space available on the board for components as well. It handles the heat well. Looks fantastic with my MXI GTX 970 Gaming 4G installed in a windowed case!

Cons: I have it 4 Eggs because the heatsink on the southbridge (black plate with red MSI dragon logo) was completely loose from the board when it arrived. It didn't cause any damage to the board, but it turns out that the screws were stripped (weird). I put some blue Loctite in the screw holes and gently put the heatsink back on. So far it's held up fine, and it should stay that way. If not, I'll contact MSI!

5 out of 5 eggsPacked with features

Pros: Fast, has lots of space to plug into, compatible with the newest tech, tons of customizability. I confess to not having bought a new MB in 7+ years so maybe this is standard nowadays, but being able to use your mouse in an easily navigated BIOS that is written in plain English is fantastic!

Cons: The programs are almost too much. No, they are too much. I wouldn't take off an egg for being "too helpful" but it's hard to imagine MSI couldn't put most of this functionality into just 1 or 2 programs (especially when a couple of them literally have 1 button to click). I don't know why I need 6-7 of these programs floating around my computer.

Other Thoughts: Looks real nice! I like the color scheme of the board, it looks great. It also comes with an awesome badge/sticker for your computer.

4 out of 5 eggsBeware of the bloatware!

Pros: Well built board. Performs well. Looks good

Cons: The LAN drivers are not on board and you must install them using the included utilities disk- beware because there's A LOT of bloat on that disk.

Other Thoughts: My build with this board went flawlessly until I tried to connect to the internet and realized that there were no Lan Drivers! This is my first MSI board, and even though this build went well I will likely go back to ASUS because of this.
