1 out of 5 eggsBoot up with Black Blank Screen!Q

Pros: Does not boot up right. All components are brand new and Haswell certified. In spite of that still it does not work. Memory is 16gb. i7-4390k

Cons: Does not boot up

Other Thoughts: If it works it would have been nice

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you described, many reasons can cause the situation like this. We suggest you try the following steps:
1. Power down system, test with minimum components (1 stick of ram, video, CPU power supply).
2. Clear cmos, verify that you have both main 24pin JPRW1 and 12volts JPWR2 ATX power connectors connected.
3. If possible verify a different memory stick, power supply etc.
For additional troubleshooting and supports please feel free to contact MSI team directly for assistance at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific Time.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive Board

Pros: Great looks, well built, Nice Bios and software.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: This MB is part of my sixth build, and went very smoothly. All worked just fine right off the bat. I have to hand it to MSI for providing a really detailed, and easy to understand manual. A first time builder should have no problem building this into a system. Nice looking and simple to use Bios too. So far, I couldn't be happier with this board, and highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks nice, built well, nice Bios, good software.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: This MB is part of my 6th build, and all went very smoothly. I have to give MSI credit for providing a great user guide. A first time builder should have no problem installing this board,...well, as long as they can read. I expected the "Sound Blaster" to be average "on board" quality at best, but was surprised at how nice it actually sounds. This build has been running for a few months now, and all is fine so far.
Overall, a nice board with great documentation. Highly recommended, especially for first timers.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't even work

Pros: The dragon looks cool I guess.

Cons: Decided to upgrade my old AMD CPU and msi mobo so i purchased an i5 and a msi z97. All the parts from my old computer where fine and working well with no problems even ordered a ssd to put windows on, once I had everything installed went to press the power button and nothing worked. I went through various tests to see what the problem was and the mobo was sent to me dead and in the process of packaging it back up for return i accidentally bent one pin so now I'm out 140$. DO NOT BUY THIS BOARD

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsnot bad

Pros: Not bad. the design is really nice

Cons: the rebate process is terrible and a bit pricey to me.

Other Thoughts: if this motherboard costs only 100 dollars, i will have nothing to complain about this board.

5 out of 5 eggsSweeet Board

Pros: Board is beautiful, feels solid. Connections are all accessible. Plenty of 4 pin fan connections. The software suite is nice as well. Easy access to current temps, stress tests, fan control. Hell.. I can now overclock my computer with my F*&(ing cell phone..This is truly an amazing time to be alive lol. MSI Command center is nifty, and so far my rig is performing..absolutely flawlessly with this backbone.

Cons: These are petty cons to say the least. The sound blaster sound cover is red when off, but neon pink when turned on. I have figured out a solution already but that's kinda silly.
Everything is spaced well, but the "black" finish on the board is painfully BROWN when in the light.

Other Thoughts: Buy it already??

2 out of 5 eggsProbably a good board if it works

Pros: Very nice point and click bios
Easy to use OC options

Very cool dragon shaped heat sinks.

Cons: Killer lan is anything but killer. Wouldn't recognize my lan cable even after installing drivers. The drivers on the included CD seemed to break more things than they fixed and with no access to the internet to get updated drivers I had to rely on putting them on a USB from my laptop.
I had read the solution to most of these problems was to update the bios to the latest version so I did that and... bricked after updating (note: I used mflash, not liveupdate).

Too much bloat in the bundled software (why did they include software to do things they obviously spent a lot of time including in the clickbios?)

Other Thoughts: Got this on combo bundle with a i7 4790k for 85$ off. In hindsight I should have listened to the other reviewers and went with one of MSi's more tried and true boards, but oh well. Live and learn.

1 out of 5 eggs10 days left of vacation and still no replacement board

Pros: Looks nice

Cons: Received a bad board and still no replacement 10 days later and only a week left of summer vacation, and it sure hasn't been a good one.

Other Thoughts: First computer build and was listening to recommendations on MSI and wish I could write a positive review. How long should it take to get a replacement board?

4 out of 5 eggsGood MB/Confusing BIOS

Pros: - Solid construction
- Built-in Sound Blaster cinema audio
- Plenty of USB and SATA ports
- Lots of goodies in the BIOS for overclocking, fan control, etc.
- Red and black color scheme is pretty cool if you aesthetics are important to you

Cons: - BIOS options can be very confusing
- "Dragon claw" heat sinks and memory slots in close proximity to CPU can make installing an after-market cooling fan difficult

Other Thoughts: Even though I've only had it a short time, I really love this motherboard. This is my third MSI motherboard and they just keep getting better and better.

I think the quality of the board is outstanding. I love having the dual-BIOS switch as a backup, am impressed with the number of SATA and USB ports and the built-in Sound Blaster audio is solid as well.

My main complaint about this board is the BIOS. When I first loaded it up it seemed to be amazingly robust, especially considering the basic BIOS my last MSI board had.

However, diving in deeper made me feel like I was diving down a rabbit hole. Some of the settings seemed redundant and others seemed to double back on themselves, which led to some initial confusion, particularly with the boot menu and overclocking.

If you are willing to put in the time you will eventually figure things out and be able to do just about anything you want as far as configuration. Just be prepared to put in that time. Or just use UEFI :)
