4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: + Easy install
+ Well thought out manual (even if YouTube links don't work as given in the manual)
+ Plenty of SATA ports
+ Supports up to something like 3 or 4 systems fans, meaning I only needed to plug 1 or 2 into my actual power supply
+ No trouble picking up any of the peripherals
+ Awesome aesthetic design

Cons: - Horrible SATA port placement (they were right near my harddrive bays and I had to jam the wires into the spot)
- USB 3.0 port is essentially broken. I tried plugging in the USB 3.0 adapter from the Rosewill Blackhawk and the pins bent with minimal pressure applied, so now I can't use them

Other Thoughts: Overall, a decent Mobo, this was my first PC built and I can honestly say I'm pretty happy with the purchase. Just be careful with the USB 3.0 port and you should be fine.

1 out of 5 eggsDone with MSI

Pros: Nice looking board. Plenty of features for gaming.

Cons: I recently built two HTPCs using the MSI H97 Guard-Pro and they worked very well. Then I decided to build a gaming rig and decided the G45 looked like a pretty good value. Well, It seems the number 2 memory slot was defective and caused the board to continuously cycle. Needless to say it took me hours to troubleshoot in order to isolate the problem and then more time to get it disassembled and packaged. I then ordered a GD-65 as a replacement and it came with bad front panel connector pins. I could run the machine with the switches on the motherboard, but I'd have to open the case every time I wanted to power it on. More time troubleshooting and getting it ready to ship back.

Other Thoughts: Paul from Newegg TV talks about the failure rate of PC components like motherboards being very low...and, honestly, that has been my experience for many years; then I get two defective motherboards in succession - both from MSI - what would you do?? Me personally, I'll be looking at ASUS, ASRock, and Gigabyte from this point forward.

1 out of 5 eggsWont Post

Pros: - Looks Amazing
- Well Built
- Black and Red Design

Cons: Unable to Post using Intel Core i5-4690K

Other Thoughts: Turned on my new build for the first time. It boots up and makes all the right sounds. Fans spin, MSI GTX 970 Dragon logo and Mobo light up however no matter which input or monitor I use, I cant get it to post. I have ensured that all cables are properly secured along with the graphics card being seated correctly. I am assuming at this point the bios version came outdated or simply DOA.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Assembly Quality

Pros: Looks cool. Materials used are top notch.

Cons: Out of box: 3 bent pins on CPU socket, got out the magnifying glass and a needle, managed to straighten them out.
One of the heatsinks had a cross-threaded screw that was stripped out. Managed to remove it and thread it in properly so the heatsink wouldn't be flopping around.
Upon finishing the build, discovered through diagnostics that DIMM 3 slot didn't work; PC would power cycle on its own. Refund time.
I knew I properly fixed the bent pins because I could get the PC to POST into BIOS and it functioned properly - as long as DIMM slot 3 wasn't filled.

Other Thoughts: Poor assembly quality. Great materials and components.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Fine

Pros: Works fine. Easy to OC as the overclock genie is installed into the bios. BIOS is easy to maneuver around. The board itself is really sturdy and is capable to hold a good amount of stuff on it. Ex. RAM, cards, etc.

Cons: Nothing so far. Except some fails on my point, but none really.

Other Thoughts: To people who rate 1/5 stars for a DOA. Your review means nothing. Just because it died when you got it does not show how good or bad the motherboard performs. There is always going to be DOAs. I myself has had DOAs in the past. Please write reviews on things that do work. Have fun building :D

5 out of 5 eggsDon't Update BIOS

Pros: This board is solid, has a good performance and looks very good.

Cons: I tried to update the BIOS using MSI Live Update and while it was at 10% flashing the BIOS it crashed and gave me blue screen, the board became bricked, I sent it back to RMA

Other Thoughts: I kinda of blame myself for the BIOS brick because I searched and found a lot of people had issues while updating BIOS but I took the risk, the board was good and I had no reason to update.
If it ain't broken, dont fix it!

5 out of 5 eggsBest MB I've owned

Pros: Turning on my new build for the first time, I was amazed by the BIOS that was very easy to navigate.

Cons: Not really a con, but if you have a full length video card in the bottom PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot, it goes right over the SATA slots, so make sure you plug in your SATA devices before inserting your video card.

Other Thoughts: I was scared to death that I might have broken my i7-4790k due to the amount of force needed to close the socket clamp in place. As I was closing it, it sounded like light crunching, like velcro ripping. But it closed, and I'm typing this, so it worked. But man was I sweating while I was closing it.
