1 out of 5 eggsBe weary before purchasing

Pros: The overall design of the board is great and the pricing is fair. What interested me about this motherboard is its amount of USB 3.0 slots, with a wide array of them it was easy to hook up USB cables, Flash Drives, and other trinkets. Also its large amounts of SATA ports and speed.

Cons: I've ordered two of these motherboards one after another. The first motherboard was defective. It did not work when installed. I called Newegg, sent it back and then received a replacement (as I chose to). Later as soon as I get the next one, once installed it worked for a week then died just like the first one. Same exact symptoms and everything. I am extremely disappointed with this build and would greatly recommend anyone to give deep though before buying this specific motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Overall MSI is a great company with a wide array of professional grade equipment. I wish to not give a bad name to the company because of one product type. Nobody is perfect.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2).
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

Best Regards,

5 out of 5 eggsSo far it's great!

Pros: -Blue color scheme is perfect for my build
-Loads of USB ports
-Overclocked my i5 to 4.8ghz pretty easily with board
-Came bundled with 4690k for me. (Great deal)
-The bios was intuitive and overclocking was easy with Intel XTU

Cons: None yet really,

Other Thoughts: I was nervous buying with few reviews but I'm glad I did. MSI actually has decent support as well. Pretty satisfied with product and price point was totally acceptable.

4 out of 5 eggsCaught my eye

Pros: Headed in the right direction MSI.
Love the steel usb power feature; garenteed power delivery on all usbs
Love that each port is protected against ESD.

Cons: However, to make your product more competitive you should at least throw in ALC887 with ELNA audio caps. Pennies for a much more competitive product.

Other Thoughts: Also, just my opinion but your boards have a greater DOA tendency then your competitors (Asus, Gigabyte), so on a board of this price some server grade testing would re-assure the buyer

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Board

Pros: 12x USB 3.0 supported, all with solid 5V delivery, attractive design, so far very stable, UEIF Bios, what's not to like. Passed all the stress tests I threw at it without a hiccup.

Cons: Had to RMA firsts board as it had loose heat sinks that could have created a short. Beware with MSI software. I suggest installing the minimum. MSI is well known in forums not to test their software and if you install all their utilities, get used to programs not working, freezes, you name it. I found out the hard way and was dumbfounded until I googled and found many threads. I ended up doing a clean install of win-7 again to get things going and took everyone's advice to install the minimum supplied utilities.

Other Thoughts: I have to admit, even though my first board was a dud and I made the mistake first time around installing all the utilities on the second board and then having to reinstall windows, MSI tech support have been great. They always seem to answer quickly and do their best to get things going. For this reason alone, I will continue to purchase their brand as they do their absolute best to stand behind their product.

5 out of 5 eggsNice little Mobo on Combo

Pros: Price, power, expansion

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I got this for 50 bucks using a combo deal with the Pentium G3258. Amazing deal. I can keep this motherboard and upgrade CPU's if I feel the Pentium ever slows me down. This motherboard is really nice. Nothing bad to say about it. Plenty of PWM fan headers, tons of USB 3.0.

I don't know how it compares to the other Z97's out there, but I'm happy.

5 out of 5 eggsRam Compatabilty List

Pros: Cost, looks good,UEIF Bios easy to work with, I would read up on your bios settings first to make things easier for you if not use to UEIF.

Cons: Ram Compatibility List

Other Thoughts: Ram compatibility list states 8GB kit of Corsair XMS3 4x2gb kit CMX8GX3M4A1333C9 is compatible. Doesn't seem to be. Is causing freezes with computer. Ram tested good "mem86test" so not the chips. "Maybe motherboard doesn't like 4 chips installed??" Doesn't freeze with one 4gb stick installed. Research on your ram first to be installed into mobo. CPU is a Intel Pentium Processor G3258 <<--- OC's great: I don't know if problem is in CPU but most likely not as runs fine with just the -- one ram stick in it. <-- " Different Brand " Bios is flashed to latest release.
MSI please recheck your Ram Compatibilty List
Not Neweggs doing so cant knock off egg for that

4 out of 5 eggsGood board

Pros: BIOS control is via keyboard and mouse and is very easy to navigate. All fan headers are friendly to 3 pin fans but control range is limited to 50-100%. The board seems to be of good build quality with the exception of some spotting on the finish. Lots of spots for near non-existent USB 3.0 devices. Tiny-ish VRM heat sinks look good and seem mounted well.

Cons: CrossFire users should know that the secondary PCIe x16 slot is version 2.0 @ 4x. Until updating to latest BIOS this board clocked the processor to top speed at all times which isn't good for power saving reasons.

Other Thoughts: Reviewing the replacement board sent out by NewEgg after the RMA'ing the first board due to a bad PCIe slot which should have been caught before packaging. -1 egg for that week of no fun.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Issues

Pros: Snazzy looking board. Dark brown circuit board with blue and black colored placements. I built this for a family member as a mid-high quality build minus GFX card... the BIOS is neat. It is a keyboard AND mouse enabled BIOS. I've never seen a computer BIOS like that... "Wave of the future, Dude". Also, it has a nice OC'ing section should you desire it. I had no problems getting this board working to spec on the first try.

It is blazing with a 4th Gen i5 and a SATA III SSD. As far as ports go, notably, this board has VGA, DVI-D, and HDMI inputs, 8 USB 3.0s + 2 USB 2.0 ports will make your eyes bulge, and it has full analog audio. Modern Intel CPUs can hold their own for run-of-the-mill non-gaming video needs so I went without that for now unless needs change.

Cons: I only wish it had 8 SATA ports on the board. With the trend towards SATA CD/DVD drives you will run out of SATA ports if you fill up the HDD spaces. I would have liked to see support for S/PDIF coaxial and digital support, but its not a dealbreaker.

Other Thoughts: I hope I gave this board some credit as it lacks any reviews.
