1 out of 5 eggsCurrently RMAing

Pros: Price

Cons: BIOS was completely locked up when I got it. I called the MSI tech support and he told me to RMA it because it is defective. Hope the next one works.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this MoBo!

Pros: Has enough ports to fit what you need.

Cons: So I've only used this motherboard for about a month. Things were fine at first, but within 2 weeks, the motherboard starting failing on me. First off, the BIOS would not listen to my boot priority which caused boot times to be extremely long (up to 10 minutes at one point). I have also had issues of it not reading anything in the USB ports and causing my mouse and keyboard to malfunction. I have updated all the drivers to my peripherals, as well as did a clean install of my OS, and formatted my hard drives to make sure nothing is wrong but this all still occurred because of my motherboard. Some of you may also be thinking this is because of a BIOS issue and yes I have cleared the CMOS and done a BIOS update. Sure the price is nice for what you get, but this is disappointing.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: Well built, nice spacing on the PCI slots fan connectors, etc. running this with an i7 that was part of the combo deal. Magnificent black and blue color scheme. All printed PCB labels easy to read. Excellent bundled driver and utility software. BiOS is so modern one would think they were on a website or a program running on the OS.

Cons: None yet. I have nothing bad to say about this board.

Other Thoughts: I am not an overclocker, but I have played with this board a bit and find the GUI to be outstanding for a somewhat rusty old dude. When one installs the bundled drivers and application everything is a snap, including flashing the BiOS. This is part of a DIY bundle from Newegg that saved me money and removed any reservations I had about making such a purchase. Far superior to my venerable Universal Abit on my previous machine.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst time computer building. works good

Pros: Functions good. Bios is easy. RMA is good.

Cons: BIOS update?

Other Thoughts: This was used for my first ever computer build--
Everything went solid and I liked how easy the bios was
Overclock was almost a no-brainer
If overclock fails, the computer boots into safe configuration and it works good again.

I once updated bios (since up-to-date is got to be good right?) and found that the bios killed my motherboard. reset CMOS and what not it just plain didn't work out right. So I panicked and called MSI and told them what happened, and to my surprise they allowed a clean RMA. I was able to send and recieve the product back in about two weeks (i live in central america) and now I don't dare touch BIOS. I've also learned that you shouldn't update bios unless you're sure BIOS is causing hardware compatiability issue... so take that for what it is.

The use and setup was real easy with the board. I am pleased with the purchase and the RMA department.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Choice (For My First Build)

Pros: So far this board has been great for my first build. No start up problems or crashes, updating the bios is really easy and the start up menu is cool too look at. At first I was hesitant because of the lack of reviews, but now I'm happy I bought it. Not only does it work great, but the color scheme I really like as it fits what I was trying to go for so win win for me lol.

Cons: Zip

5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard for the price.

Pros: This motherboard is great. it has every thing you need, unless you want to run SLI. But you can run crossfire on it. It looks nice and simple, no major heatsinks in the way or anything extra like that. For this price i think this is the perfect motherboard for anyone. (except for SLI) of course.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I have no bad things to say about this motherboard. it just works, exactly how it should. Also, for some people who may be wondering, it comes with 2 SATA data cables just incase you're having trouble finding that info. Also, it has the oc genie 4, which actually works. i gave it a try on my i5 4590k which is 3.5ghz base stock, and it overclocked it to 4.1 ghz. so not a bad little utility if you wanna overclock but dont know what you're doing or you're lazy or something like that. I definitely recommend this motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: It's hard to complain about mobo that works as advertised.

Cons: See below.

Other Thoughts: I made this comment on my other parts as well:

Computer parts are freaking cheesy these days. The z97 mobo flexes when you plug things in, the GTX 760 bends downward on one side due to its own weight, the stock Intel cooler is held on my flimsy plastic clips, the case is slightly bowed inward due to a manufacturing defect, and the modular PSU came with bent pins. All of the parts came from reputable manufacturers.

9 years ago, I spent half as much on a budget build and had much higher confidence in the durability of the parts. It seems as though durability has been reduced across the board for new products. With this new build, I’d be afraid to bump the side of the case.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

Pros: Great Budget MoBo
Has everything I need for my budget gaming rig...paired with a G3258 and an EVGA GTX 750 Ti 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card, 8 Gigs ram this set up overclocked so easily with the OCGenie I can't say enuff...MoBo O'clocked the chip to 4.3Ghz on Stock HSF...can't wait to see what it will do when my 212 Evo arrives. USB 3.0, Sata 6.0GB, blah blah blah...read the specs it has it all...even Xfire support, meh.

Cons: Slightly flimsy on the board's rigidity, just be smart and support the board while shoving in your memory...Cant take an Egg off for that, if that's the worst so far, just have a Non-Ogre-Handed person install it for you.

Also, Does Not taste like Chicken.

Other Thoughts: This board/cpu/gpu combo stated above replace a well-aged Asus P5Q-E, Q9950 Quad Core and an HIS AMD 48XX Video Card all for less than the Original cost of the Q9550...for a budget mobo paired with the budget processor this is a Homerun!

All components installed/replaced in under an hour. Win 8.1 was the bottleneck on install...Once all installed, boot time is under 10 seconds on a Samsung 840 EVO SSD.

BTW the over clock is all stock voltages, even stock HSF, Of course stock grey mess(read as thermal compound) was replaced with AS-5.

3 out of 5 eggsGood but not great

Pros: I loved the board's advertised features, including the series 9 chipset, USB 3.0 header, and easy overclocking features.

The large number of extra system fan headers was a nice surprise.

Aside from the USB 3.0 header, the design was pretty spacious, allowing plenty of room for parts, even with my oversized CPU heatsink.

Cons: The board's BIOS was finicky and did not like overclocking. By this I mean the OC Genie feature was completely non-functional (did not actually OC) and eventually caused a no-POST/No-boot failure on what was supposed to be a simple restart. The BIOS update that would supposedly fix this issue killed the board. (Making two catastrophic BIOS failures within 1 week of purchase.)

Slight design flaw: the USB 3.0 header is situated so close to the 24-pin power header that a standard USB cable barely fits when jammed in next to the power cable. Though I was finally able to get both plugged in at once, it was a far lengthier and tougher process than it needed to be. Though more of a one-time annoyance than a constant issue, I do consider this a minor design flaw.

Other Thoughts: The service reps at the company were friendly and knowledgeable, so I can't fault their customer service. On the other hand, they were also completely unsurprised that the board had BIOS issues, as it is apparently a common problem with them. This, more than anything, persuaded me that the problems were less of a "bad unit" situation and more of a "bad design" situation.

I can't fault the company as a whole (they do make excellent video cards and had excellent customer service), but I opted to go with a different brand for my motherboard and have not regretted the decision. If the USB placement and BIOS issues were fixed, or if I could be assured that the BIOS problem were an isolated incident, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the board, but my experience left me both weary and wary. Your mileage may vary.
