1 out of 5 eggsWTH MSI !

Pros: Great Cheap Motherboard

Cons: Whatever you do, do not update the bios with MSI LIVE UPDATE. Just don't update the motherboard at all. I did and my pc cant display anything. I tried everything to jumpers, and still doesn't work. Now i have to go through a hassle to RMA it and it wasn't even my fault. MSI disappoints me. I don't even know if just changing my motherboard will fix the problem. Someone please give me ANY tips on how to solve this before i RMA this DAM motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Works fine
Looks nice
Easy to use click bios

Cons: Died in 2 months of light use. I am disappointed, but I am glad there is a 3 year warranty.

Other Thoughts: I will be replacing it, and hoping it will not die. If it does die again I will be going with a different board.

1 out of 5 eggsBSOD Motherboard

Pros: Great Price! Everything you need!

Cons: I had an MSI Z87 board that got damaged. It ran like a dream. It was awesome! Never an issue!
I bought this board to replace it. Nightmare!! It is the very definition of BSOD in Windows 7 x64. Tested all the hardware. It is definitely the Motherboard.
Fails at managing memory... Loses the SSD drive when windows installs - can't even boot to the OS. Reinstalled windows 7 three tines this week. BSOD every 30 minutes.
I removed 8 GB of my memory and left 8 GB in there for testing --- BSOD every couple of hours now.

Other Thoughts: Cutting my losses on this board. From what I read on the web, MSI is having an issue with their BIOS updating. The BIOS for this board is said to be defective at present. I always use MSI boards. But now I am looking for a new brand.
This board is a major disappointment.

4 out of 5 eggsNo firewire

Pros: Good board; runs fine with 8GB of ram. Not used for gaming --- just my "everyday" home system. Works well in my NVidia tower (now discontinued) that I bought (as usual) at Newegg years ago

Cons: I needed firewire for my Sony camera - surprise... there is no option for it - not even a header on the system board. Had to get an pci express card to adapt it to system.

Other Thoughts: No qualms about the board - I should have read the details a little closer to find there is no firewire - that's MY fault. Thanks anyway, MSI; good board.

3 out of 5 eggs2nd time a charm

Pros: Latest chipset, lots of connections, fast boot.

Cons: 1st one was DOA. My test equipment showed that power got to the motherboard on only one voltage. No fans spun, no POST codes. 2nd one was perfect, but I had to reformat the hard drive as my previous Windows 7 installation couldn't tolerate the new chipset.

Other Thoughts: Purchased as a combo with a CPU at total cost less than current price for the board alone. I didn't remove the UPC before I tdiscovered the first one dead. Consequently, Newegg could provide a free return shipping label, which took them 3 days to process, and otherwise replaced it promptly.

5 out of 5 eggsFired Right Up

Pros: BIOS is fantastic. Price/Performance is awesome.

Cons: Haven't found any.

Other Thoughts: It's a little hair raising watching this board flex when you attach cables.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Board

Pros: Easy to setup and working well so far. No problems overclocking and I like all the options available in the BIOS. OC Genie does an okay job overclocking for people with no experience.

Cons: CPU temp in BIOS seems to be off for me, but other then that nothing to complain about.

Other Thoughts: Got this with the free G3258 and they work very well together. Going to hold off flashing the BIOS because of issues I've seen on MSI's website.

4 out of 5 eggsQuality budget Z97 board

Pros: -Easy to use UEFI BIOS
-Very affordable
-Good layout of USB hubs, SATA ports, etc
-Has heatsinks on VRMs, I've noticed some budget MSI boards do not.
-Overclocking is easy peasy with the UEFI.

Cons: -Somewhat flimsy, which I've noticed in other MSI boards. When you're plugging things in to the board, make sure you support it from the underside. Wouldn't want to snap a chunk off of your brand new motherboard.
-Some questionable "utilities" bundled in with the drivers, and no descriptions of said utilities. Just something to pay attention to when you're installing drivers/utilities.

Other Thoughts: Got this and a G3528 for $100, can't really beat that when you're building a budget rig. Would definitely buy again when building another budget rig.
