3 out of 5 eggsmSATA is only SATAII

Pros: Actually, a pretty decent board - runs surprisingly cool (at least with an i3) - Because I used a mSATA hard drive other than the fans there were no moving parts, and almost no internal cabling.

Cons: Loses two eggs for the following reasons:

mSATA is SATAII = What?

This small a system begs for mSATA, and yes, the h81 chipset only has 2 SATAIII ports... why not use one for the mSATA?

The included software utilities are rough and balky - not quite ready for prime time.

That being said, its an intel chipset - how badly can you really foul that up?

3 out of 5 eggsThinking about getting one

Pros: Have not own this MB yet. Plan to get 3 for custom build.

Cons: User manual: BIOS setting section is minimal to the max. Two pages for how to enter the BIOS screen. Five pages for OC and RAM setting. That's it. Where is the rest?

3 out of 5 eggsThinking About It

Pros: It has all the features I'm looking for as an HTPC replacement board.

Cons: I have read the complete manual as well as everything on the website and I see no indication of what voltage/wattage DC adapter is needed. I suppose I can go old school and call them, but how hard is it to add this info. Like a sentence maybe? Come on MSI!!

4 out of 5 eggsIgnore the bad review from Aplus S.

Pros: I rarely bash anyone for ignorance, but the bad review from A Plus is 'FAKE.' Any real tech knows a Thin Mini ITX board requires an external 19w brick power source. Furthermore, even a novice could see the notebook-like power connector on the rear I/O... or called MSI Support.. or even worse, opened the manual!

Cons: None

2 out of 5 eggsConfused

Pros: None, can't use it.

Cons: I can't use it because I have no idea how to power this thing, instructions are lame. I bought this for a rackmount 1U Athena server case, but the case comes with a power supply useless for this motherboard, it has a laptop power connector on the back but no power supply came with it or no mention on what type of power supply it even takes.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2).
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

Best Regards,
