Get ready for ear-drum shattering sound, with MSI Audio Boost 2! With Audio Boost 2 we're delivering the highest audio quality with the use of Creative Sound Blaster Cinema 2 so you can enjoy crystal clear sound and music through 8-channel HD Audio.

With traditional onboard audio the signal is distorted by electromagnetic signals from the rest of the PCB. Audio Boost 2 acts like a dedicated soundcard by physically isolating the audio circuitry which is separated by a red LED path. Less interference gives you a more clear audio signal.

Thanks to Creative Sound Blaster Cinema 2, you're getting amazing surround sound with just stereo headphones or speakers. Creative Sound Blaster Cinema 2 enables you to clearly hear specific sounds in gaming environments. Hear your enemies perfectly, make your ears a decisive tool to finish on top.

To shield the audio core from EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) caused by other add-in cards the audio chip is protected by a high-grade EMI cover with backlight illumination.

Pros: Looks really nice on setup with a nice UEFI interface

Cons: - Does not last at all

Other Thoughts: Within the last 2 years the board has stopped working twice. I've had to RMA this board once and just recently the board stopped working. Both with the same issue of pcie slots/usb deciding to randomly stop working. Although the board looks nice it is not reliable in terms of how long it lasts.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valuable Customer
Sorry to hear about the issue you reported. Before considering an RMA again can you check following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected firmly,
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. Power down clear CMOS, by remove the CMOS battery from MB for 1 to 2 min, then put back and retest.
4. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

Thanks for choosing MSI

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good once you get the settings right

Pros: -Super User-Friendly BIOS! Love the mouse navigation.
-looks cool and solid
-Slow-Mo switch to allow easier access to BIOS
-Fist time with fancy padded I/O cover.
- Command Center program is a nice touch to monitor everything. For OC freshmen like me, it gives little information bubbles about what does what and recommended settings. Or just try hitting OC Genie button ;)
-Audio and "Killer" Ethernet are great! Audio Boost also has a little red LED - so it adds a nice touch if you just have a red intake fan ;) ..except my fan is green and my RAM is blue, lol.

Cons: -Bios screen doesn't always appear [Win10 booting off HDD]. Sometimes it will stay black and act like a monitors not plugged in until the Windows screen. Annoying when you actually want to get into the BIOS.
- Side-facing SATA ports are more annoying than helpful in my case...and my instance. Not sure if port or cables, but that satisfying "click" is missing. Ports also seem like they won't hold up to too much cable wiggling to see if it's actually in.
-RAM ports slightly closer to CPU than on Gigabyte D3P. My CPU fan hits my RAM if all the way seated on the heatsink on this MSI.
-4-pin power supply cable that goes between CPU and Rear panel will be very very hard to get out if need-be. You pretty much have to not care about the board and hitting the bridge/heatsink.

Other Thoughts: *UPDATE, Pros&Cons, 5/21/16*
Well, it's been about 7-8 months with this board in heavy use and one USB3 port on the back side died. I stopped seeing my external HDD listed, so I was freaked that the drive had died. Unplugged it and put it in the other USB3, and sure enough it pops right up. and I believe my original review was written when I still had a tony GT740 graphics card in there. A full length [8-12"] card does indeed barely clear the bridge, and my GTX 760 is basically resting on the Sata ports.
I also take back part of my Bios and Command Center praise and all of my OC Genie praise. The OC Genie is a joke - I finally got the nerve to try it after feeling confident about all my hardware, and it couldn't keep the system stable! I think the temp shot up and the whole thing kinda had to be panically shut down. I read another review about this board that it throttles FX processors too - which is true. My 8320E Never gets past it's base clock of 3.2ghz, even though it's natural boost is supposed to let it hit 3.6 I think. Trying that just makes the system warm and unstable. Command center settings are useless, as they don't seem to work in tandem with the BIOS. So if I adjust clock settings in the BIOS, I'm super paranoid about starting the CC to set my fan speeds - something you have to do every single boot - because I don't know if the Command setting will override the BIOS ones or reflect them. So far it seems neither. Also really wish you could set your custom profile to load by default, instead of having to go in and load them, only to have them still not be right. Fan settings and CPU settings don't connect - so you have to load 2-3 diff profiles every time you use the computer. The Command Center updates don't seem to help either. The only thing it really does is completely eff up your RamDisk settings - requiring you to reset them and do a few reboots to make sure everything is still writing to the Disk that needs to. Thinking about uninstalling it and going with 3rd party RamDisk and Hardware Monitor programs.*

5 out of 5 eggsGreat bang for the buck

Pros: Endless possibilities, comes with great software to adjust to meet anyone's needs. Plenty of PCI slots and ram. The best part is the price!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend this to anyone building or upgrading on a budget. I paired the board up with 16G of 1866 ram and a FX 8300 and she runs like a dream.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks great, convenient bios, easy to install

Cons: Worked for about 6 months. It still powers on, all the fans spin, but no display or inputs. Discovered a clear oily grease-like substance coming from the VRM heatsink (thermal grease or soldering flux perhaps?)

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Experience with MSI Support

Pros: + Board work(ed) as advertised
+ well specced for price

Cons: - poor support from MSI
- MSI tool for updating BIOS bricked board

Other Thoughts: I had a minor issue with the board that was noted as resolved with in a BIOS update. I used the MSI tool from their site to update the BIOS (this is probably where I first went wrong). The board never posted after the last step (reboot). I was subsequently unable to flash from USB or get the board to boot in any way. By chance, this happened on the first day of a vacation that my wife and I intended to do not much more than play computer games.

I called MSI, spoke with someone who did nothing more than read me the steps already listed on the website for updating BIOS. Then asked for my email address. As soon as I gave it to him he said that I needed to follow the RMA process and would be responsible for paying to ship the board back, then it could take several weeks to get a determination on if it is covered. If it wasn't, I would need to pay to ship it back as well. Then he hung up on me.

So I was going to be out 15$ or so on shipping, just to go 5 weeks without a board to find out of I MIGHT get it replaced or repaired. Naturally, that wasn't acceptable. I got a Gigabyte board to replace and haven't had issues with that.

I tried again recently to contact MSI, through their site rather than call center. I was met with an automated process and could not reach a person. I'll be happy to update this if MSI does respond and provide a satisfactory resolution. Unfortunately, until then, I can't see myself buying MSI products.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Russell,

We appreciate the feedback you have provided on your MSI experience. I'm sorry to hear about the inconvenience and please accept our apologies for any unfortunate experience. Thank you for choosing MSI!
