Runs pfsense as is. Cons: Realtek nic! lower Mhz cores means single thread performance isn't as good as other processors only PCIe 1x so no older NIC's, no full video cards, no dual NIC cards, etc. Doesn't run ESXi or Sophos out of the box. Xenserver works great for Sophos though. Other Thoughts: I put in a PCIe 1x intel nic and used the onboard nic and was able to use this as a router/FW/UTM pushing over 100Mbps easily and in theory it should do around 300-400Mbps for just FW'ing. It however will NOT run Sophos UTM 9.3x natively. I could get it to install but hangs on booting early in the boot process. I tried to load ESXi and it won't install properly as it has issues with the onboard video card. I was able to get ESXi to run by installing it to a memory stick on another machine and moving it over to this system but the video stops showing but it does boot and I can connect to it with the ESXi vSphere Client and create a datastore. BUT the AHCI SATA controller isn't supported so you have to hack it. The realtek NIC card isn't supported so you have to hack it as well. And in the end you are left with a no console kludge that can't be upgraded without jumping through those same hoops. However Xenserver installs and runs great, supports the Realtek nic and onboard SATA controller and supports running Sophos in a Xen VM. Works perfectly! I built a complete 8GB RAM 500GB UTM security FW system around this motherboard/CPU combo for around $179 and it is silent, cool, and exceptionally fast with most UTM features turned on! Speaking of silent, the case I used has 1 case fan. The BIOS, albeit a bit limited, allows for a temp threshold (lowest of 45C) to kick on the case fan. This system runs at 38C under load so the case fan never turns on and has become a fanless silent system for me. The heat sink is barely warm to the touch and hard to tell it is even on.
