5 out of 5 eggsSimply amazing performance

Pros: This board is amazing. I'm currently using it (watercooled everything, VR, CPU, NB) and running an E63100 1.86GHz chip at 3.01 GHz, 7x multiplier - which means a FSB of 1720MHz. I'm also running my memory at 4-4-4-12, which is 1:1 with the base bus speed. Raid 5 provided via PCI-X slot with a 3ware 9550SX-4LP. CrossfireX works as well on this board, and it's as stable as foundation of my house.

They say you get what you pay for, and, well, they're right. it's worth every penny. I've had it for over a year, and I have been running it at near 100% CPU load the entire time with F@H. I doubt a cheap board would stand up to this level of exceeding listed specs for this length of time.

Cons: the only con I can think of is that the on board Raid 5 controller isn't anything to shout about. hence the choice to go with a full hardware cached raid 5 solution.

Other Thoughts: Included heatsinks on board for the northbridge and voltage regulators are not sufficient without a CPU fan. Not that I had expected them to be.

Also, getting everything to work perfectly with my far from stock setup took considerable work. but it is now working flawlessly, so I didn't place this in the con section, as it really doesn't fit there. it did work out of box with stock settings flawlessly as well.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Great layout. High quality build. 2 each PCI-E,PCI-X and PCI slots. Have been using this board for over a year and a half. Not one problem.

Cons: Marvel onboard RAID controller is a joke.

Other Thoughts: Built a dedicated Digital Audio Workstation with this board in early 2007. Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 overclocked to 3.3GHz, 1200MHz fsb. PNY VCQ285NVS-PCIEX16-PB Quadro4 NVS285 video card in PCI-E slot one. Areca ARC-1220 PCI-Express x8 SATA II Controller Card in PCI-E slot two. 2 Lynx AES-16 audio cards in PCI slots 1&2. 4 gig Corsair ram. Windows XP-Pro. Turned off EVERY non essential function in BIOS. 100% reliable system.

4 out of 5 eggsStable Mother Board

Pros: I have built the last 5 systems I have had...
I do a lot of research before making any type of purchases. This was no different.
It isn't uncommon for reviews and comments on the internet to be all over the board (no pun untended!).
But this board had a very consistent rating just about everywhere I looked... So I bought it!
I do a lot of high resolution, large format graphics for the printing & sign industries and I need a system that is consistently reliable. Other systems have failed me in the past when I needed then to work!
This board provides a very stable foundation to build upon and I am glad I chose to buy it!! ...and it's still going STRONG!

Cons: The only issues I have had with this board were with the physical building of the system itself.
I had to remove the board from the case in order to get the DVD drive cable in place, as a case bracket with in the way and didn't leave enough room to attach the cable while mounted in the case. (This could easily be the fault of the case!)
Furthermore, when I upgraded the memory, I had to remove the video card in order to get ample clearance for the lock down clips to move far enough to change out the memory sticks.

Other Thoughts: This board has, and still is serving me well!
I have not had any issues with upgrades (other than the physical ones I mentioned earlier)
I would recommend this board to any one that needs a very stable platform to build a great reliable workstation!

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Board

Pros: Solid Board for a workstation, great features. lots of connections supported, runs cool

Cons: onboard raid is not reliable, but shouldn't be the reason for buying this board. purchase a pci-x controller card and get the full potential of this board

Other Thoughts: i have had this board for over 6 months, it used in a true workstation environment ranging from uses as a data recovery rig, to a video editing/3d animation workstation and makes one heck of a gaming rig.

5 out of 5 eggsnice workstation

Pros: Great workstation 1333 FSB yes 1333 45nm able 8gb ram limit 256, 512, 1gb, 2gb, unbuffered ECC and non-ECC DDR2 Dimms. DDR800 DDR667 DDR533

Cons: could have made breakfast 4 me..lol

Other Thoughts: If you want a great workstation try this unit Due to chipset limitation DDR2-667 w/CL=4 will be downgraded to run @ DDR2-533 Due to chipset limitation DDR2-533 w/CL=3 will be downgraded to run @ DDR2-400
must change for lower latency manually. will not support 128mb chips or double sided X16's
some old-verson DR-667 Dimms may not match intels on-die termination (ODT) requirement and will downgrade to run @ DDR-533 contact your vendor check ODT value. visit ASUS web for OVL ram. PCI and PCI-X cards can generally be intermixed on a PCI-X bus, but the speed will be limited to the speed of the slowest card. For example, a PCI 2.3 device running at 32 bits and 66 MHz on a PCI-X 133-MHz bus will limit the total throughput of the bus to 266 MB/s. To get around this limitation and the voltage compatibility issue, many motherboards have separate PCI-X channels that can be dedicated to different PCI hardware families if needed, allowing for better backward compatibility while maintaining highe

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome workstation / server MB!

Pros: I now have two of these MBs running - one as a workstation and the other as a server. PCI-X was the selling point for me as I didn't want to spend all that money on a XEON and the RAM it requires. In addition it has loads of USB and FireWire ports to boot. Very stable although I use this for work and have not (will not) attempt to overclock it.

Cons: It's still a little pricey.

Other Thoughts: The chipset may be getting a little dated but it is still plenty fast and supports all of the latest CPUs. If you need PCI-X and do not want to or need to spend money on a XEON setup then this is it.
