The Asus P5B-VM motherboard includes an integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3000 video chipset, offering a dynamic solution for today's video needs. It's based on the Intel G965 chipset and supports virtually all of Intel's (Socket T) Dual Core processors. Should the system hang up due to overclocking failure, the Asus C.P.R. overclocking protection tool lets you amend system settings from the BIOS and eliminates the need for manual clearance of CMOS data.

The Asus Quiet Thermal Solution (AI Gear, AI Nap, and ASUS Advanced Q-Fan ) improves cooling across the board(s), keeping your system cool in the hottest action. The CrashFree BIOS 3 lets you restore corrupted BIOS data from a USB flash disk and eliminates needing a replacement BIOS chip. Additionally, the EZ Flash 2 allows you to update the BIOS from a USB flash disk before entering the OS.

Thanks to 8GB of room for its DDR2 800 dual channel memory, the PCI-E X16 graphic card slot, three expansion slots (1 x PCI-E X4 + 2 x PCI), and seven ATA connectors (6 x SATA + 1 x PATA), it is an excellent option for a budget system that won't act like one!

  • newegg Intel G965 + ICH8 Chipset The Intel G965 Chipset with the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3000 engine incorporates Intel Clear Video Technology for breakthrough increases in 3D, 2D and video capabilities. Up to dual-channel DDR2 800 memory is supported to provide up to 12.8 GB/s peak memory bandwidth for greater platform performance and memory flexibility. The ICH8 also features SATA 3Gb/s, High-Speed USB 2.0 and HD Audio support.
  • newegg Intel Core 2 Processor Support This motherboard supports the next-generation LGA 775 Intel Core 2 processors including the Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Extreme. With Intel’s brand-new Core microarchitecture, the Intel Core 2 processors are considered some of the most powerful and energy-efficient CPUs in the world.
  • newegg ASUS Advanced Q-Fan Powered by Intel Quiet System Technology, the ASUS Advanced Q-Fan technology stabilizes system temperature with smoother and quieter fan control.
  • newegg Q-Connector The ASUS Q-Connector allows single-step connection and disconnection of chassis front panel cables with one complete module. This unique adapter ensures quick and accurate connections without the trouble of plugging cables in separately.
  • newegg SATA on the Go The P5B-E supports next-generation Serial ATA (SATA) 3Gb/s-based hard drives. The external SATA port located on the back I/O panel provides easy setup and hot-plug functions so you can backup photos, videos and other multimedia content on external devices with ease.
  • newegg Noise Filter The Noise Filter feature eliminates repetitive and stationary noises caused by computer fans and air conditioners as well as other background noises for crystal-clear audio quality.

3 out of 5 eggsDoesn't support 8 GB RAM under Windows 7

Pros: Performs most of it's stated features adequately.

Cons: Claims to be expandable to 8 GB RAM, but I haven't been able to get more than 4 GB running on it under Windows 7. I bought RAM of the Asus QVL and it still didn't work. Tried three different 8 GB kits, including DDR2-800 and DDR2-667.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Asus' best moment

Pros: mATX. DDR2-800, supports all C2D and C2Q CPUs. Runs quietly, good for the absolute minimum spec'd HTPC

Cons: RAID is 1 internal SATA, and 1 eSATA. The other SATA ports cannot even use intel's matrix software.
BIOS is impossible to OC well with.

If there is a USB drive plugged into a port, or a printer with a USB port, such as epsun's nx four hundred, the system will hang on boot, or the USB drive will change the order of the installed hard disks, causing the system to be unable to boot until you enter the BIOS and reset the boot disk to the first drive location.

Other Thoughts: Ive had this board since October of 06. I regret it. Whily my system is still very powerful, I find myself unnecessarily restricted in that I cannot do a real RAID, cnnot have my printer powered on during boot, and cannot tweak BIOS settings and expect my OS to load.

If you are teetering on this one, just take the low egg rating as a sign. Ive had 3 asus boards in the past, but this one was a major let down.

5 out of 5 eggsNever had one problem

Pros: Once I updated to the latest bios it ran my Q6600 perfectly. I have an 8800 gt and it fit with no problems. Also have a wirelss card and tv tuner and still have room.

Cons: The FDD connector is in a bad spot. Can barely go around an 8800 gt. Order a londer cable if you plan on using.

Other Thoughts: Ultimate 64, 2x2gb xms2 800, Q6600, EVGA 8800 GT

2 out of 5 eggsDesent

Pros: I did not find much about this motherboard that I liked. the only good things about it are the esata port in the back and the nice colors.

Cons: being a micro atx it is very small. only one PCI x16 slot. when putting in other pci devices, it was very clustered. you could not put in a gt 8800 or even 8600, if you wanted to have other pci devices.

Other Thoughts: The FSB is not compatable with most of the new dual core and quad core processors.

Pros: OK if it worked

Cons: This MB went dead after one month use. Turned the machine off and when turned back on it was dead. Period. Asus support was difficult to contact. Got disconnected twice after a long hold. Another time got dumped into a voice mail...left my name and number and stated problem...no response. Finally got through to a tech rep who emailed me some diagnotic procedures. Diagonsotics say the board is dead. Sent reply eamail. No response after two weeks.

Other Thoughts: I have built many machines with Asus boards. This is the 3rd board that has gone bad in recent times. Their quality seems to be going south and their tech support is non responsive. Have replaced the dead ASUS with an Abit. Will stick with Abit as long as they deliver.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard & Proper Bios Flashing Info

Pros: Good overclocker, Supports the latest Quad Cores and ram with a proper bios flash. Make sure to update the Bios to version 1226 to have support for the latest technology

Cons: The only problems I experienced with my Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi was that the onboard audio would make crackling sounds and the little lever that they put on the PCI-E slot broke off after 2yrs of usage but my video card still works fine in that slot.

Other Thoughts: I got an Asus P5b Deluxe Wifi/AP when they first came out and have been using it ever since with no problems whatsoever after two years. The problem that most people seem to have is that they try to flash the bios through windows instead of via the bios screen. The Proper way to flash it is to dl the .zip from Asus website, unzip it anywhere then copy the .rom that was inside the .zip in a flash drive and reboot then flash it inside the bios screen with EzFlash.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Tons of features, nice layout

Cons: Raid is setup up poorly, poor support

Other Thoughts: Could not get the board to post flashed bios, used fail safe settings, tried just cpu ram and vga, nothing. Got online to the Asus boards, and the are full of people with problems with no resolutions, I have always bought Gigabyte for no other reason then they fit my price range and feature set, and at this point before I buy another Asus product I will be doing a lot of research
