4 out of 5 eggsOverall Pleased

Pros: This board is a good solution for low to middle ranged server solutions. The placement of the 4 SATA ports is rather unique but a good idea, I found them to be easily accessible when the board was placed in a rack-mount case.

Cons: Be careful about rack-mount installations, the processor location can interfere with the case fixtures. Also be warned that the RAID that is supplied with this board is a FAKE software RAID. (A driver is supplied for Windows and RHLE 4 and below, but not compatible for anything higher. Drivers for CentOS 5 installs are nonexistent.)

Other Thoughts: I would have like to have seen documentation on NewEgg's site about the on-board raid (read Cons). But being in the field I am, I should have known that almost all on-board raid support is done that way. Also the readers comments about processor selection left me wondering if the Intel Xeon X3220 I purchased for this board would not be compatible, however it DID in fact work fine. (Server Processor & Server Board, I imagine that the other comments were from people who tried non-server hardware on this board.)

3 out of 5 eggsBe Careful about processors

Pros: The board has pretty much anything that you may want for "today's" environment in server boards. It has a little touch of legacy components and new (i.e. parallel ports, PS/2 -> PCI-E, PCI-X etc...). Good board overall. Nice for what you get.

Cons: Be careful of what processor you select for this board. When we first purchased the board, we took the LGA775 ("Pentium Core 2 Duo E4000, E6000..." series part for granted, I guess. It came out that two of the three processors that we had available were not compatible with the board (even with the latest BIOS!). Check the website first for the compatible processors list ;) Otherwise, you will spend a lot in restocking fees and time trying to match the board with the right processors....

Other Thoughts: Nice board overall. The upper-end of the board is adequate for near future applications but that is about it. Nice to meet todays needs. BIOS doesn't seem very dynamic compared to some A-bit boards that I have had.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat server board

Pros: as usual newegg has delivered time and time again - delivery was fast, just 3 days after ordered. very stable board, runs my webserver 24/7 with no problems. it posted right away and smooth sailing intalling windows 2003.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: i took a chance with an open the box item since i had limited budget ($159.00). it just came with the motherboard so i had to purchase the i/o plate from asus for $5.00. the drivers/utilities i downloaded from the asus site. i'm quite happy with this board.

3 out of 5 eggsBe careful about memory

Pros: Performs well with Windows 2003 server 64 bit.

Cons: Be careful about your memory selection! I bought what I thought was acceptable memory for this board, only to find out it was not compatible. Research carefully for compatible memory.

Other Thoughts: No Raid drivers for Windows Server 2008

5 out of 5 eggsGreat ESX board

Pros: Great stable board, running with 4x2GB of patriot ram and a PCIx raid card and 7 HD's.

Cons: NONE WHATSOEVER

Other Thoughts: I needed a new board for my ESX server due to memory limitations of my previous TYAN skt939 board. With the prices of ddr2 these days this board was a perfect fit for my needs. If you need a super stable server board this should be on your short list.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT BOARD!

Pros: Great board, worked right out of the box, Raid was easy to config.

Cons: An eSata connector would have been nice either on the back or pins on the board, but this is such a minor complaint that I wouldn't downgrade my rating because of it.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these for a customer, 2003 server and 2003 SBS ran great on these boards and I'll probably buy one for myself.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Working great with Xeon 64 bit 3070 and 4 SATA WD Raptors on FreeBSD 6.2.

Cons: I could not get RAID to work on FreeBSD.

Other Thoughts: I had errors (possibly harmless errors) regarding RAID not functioning on FreeBSD (even though I had disabled RAID) until I recompiled the kernel.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Built a new server on 8/10/07. Very easy set up right out of the box. It has been running 24/7 without one problem.

Cons: Odd location of processor, doesn't line up with side air vent on the case

Other Thoughts: Server 2003, Xeon 3050, 4GB Kingston mem, 2 Seagate ES 320 hard drives, LG DVD burner, removable hard drive case enabling hot swapping the second hard drive so I can take data files home nightly. Highly recommend this setup.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Buy for the technically savvy

Pros: Board was amazingly easy to setup. I ordered late Monday night and equipement arrived on Thursday. Woo-Hoo fast.

Cons: Did not initially work with the Seagate SATA2 320Gb drives I bought. I resolved the issue by upgrading the BIOS from 1002 to 1004.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure this is a typical rant, but you wouldn't think a company would put out a board not capable of whats advertised. I am referring to the SATA ports. It would have sucked if I had to wait on a valid BIOS.
