Asus' M2A-VM brings HD video to everyone. This cost-effective board has an integrated Radeon X1250 GPU that will let you play HD-DVD or Blu-ray discs through the HDCP compliant DVI-D port. Hook up two monitors for expansive screen real estate, or add a second ATi video card and have SurroundView on four monitors.
Connectivity isn't an issue. Asus has almost every possibility covered! There are 4 USB 2.0 ports on the back and headers for up to 6 additional ports. Gigabit LAN is included for a high speed network connection.
Adjusting your BIOS is no longer a cause for trepidation. The CrashFree BIOS3 lets you restore a corrupted BIOS from a USB flash drive that contains a copy of the file. Updates are just as easy with EZ Flash2, you no longer need a DOS boot disk to do the job. Overclockers can store different profiles in CMOS or in a separate file so you can share your favorite settings. Asus continues to offer computing solutions for almost every need! Find yours!
Pros: Has the 690G chipset which is still impressive no matter what brand board it is on. Cheap, reliable, and fast.
Cons: Only one IDE channel but no biggie.
Other Thoughts: Again. If you plan to run linux on this board, make sure the kernel is atleast 2.6.20 for both the install disk and the system you are installing. Otherwise you will have hardware issues with the new chipset. Also, video out defaults to DVI. Make sure you have a DVI monitor available to you so you can change the bios settings if you plan to use VGA. Other than that... I love this board.

Best integrated DVI
Reviewed By: Joe212 on 6/15/2007
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Dual link DVI, supports 30" 2560x1600 resolution
Cons: A little more more expensive HDMI version would be preferable for people building HTPC boxes.
Other Thoughts: I think the mobo is happier with 601 BIOS. Flash from BIOS screen. No need for floppies, just copy the BIOS on a USB stick, and flash utility in BIOS will find it.

Issue with integrated video driver with Vista Ultimate install
Reviewed By: Wui on 7/5/2008
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Integrated video & audio Good instruction for installation
Cons: Used this board with an AMD X2 4800 and 2 GB RAM After installed Vista 32 bit Ultimate edition, and after installed the chipset program that came on the DVD with the systemboard, the system will boot up and then loss signal withe monitor with an "Out of sync error", booted into safe mode but was unabel to uninstall the ASUS driver, the only solution was to reinstall Vista with a format HD, downloaded the lastest chipset driver from ASUS website, did the chipset install again, and once again received the "Out of sync error" after reboot. I then went to the ATI website and downloaded only the video driver for the integrated video Radeon Express 1250 driver, did another clean install with Vista, and then loaded the ATI driver, now the new ATI driver is playing nice with the ASUS motherboard.
Other Thoughts: Took a full 8 hours to figured the problem I stated above. Hope my experience will help someone else

It died after 9 months
Reviewed By: on 1/30/2009
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Worked very well as a dual-boot system of Ubunut/Mint and Vista (32-bit), after BIOS was updated. Another removable HD had almost the similar setting for 64 bits applications, which worked well as well until its death.
Cons: It died after 9 months. Just before its death, it started acting strange. I have been forced to use my old Windows XP, and spend weekends to shop around for a new MB. (Am wondering whether the OEM-Vista can be utilized for a new MB.)
Other Thoughts: I strongly recommend to go for a multiple-year replacement plan for this one.
