5 out of 5 eggsWorth every penny.

Pros: Bought it to replace my cheap foxconn motherboard, and couldn't be happier.

Cons: Could use a few more USB ports.

Other Thoughts: 6 SATA ports makes this board ideal for anybody with multiple optical/hard drives.

5 out of 5 eggsGood stable board

Pros: I have 5 of these boards in computers at work. All drivers including the network card works great with Windows Vista and 7. Having so many feature packed on to such a small board is awesome.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
4GB Ram
Antec 350w power supply
Nvidia 9500 PCI-E
Seagate Sata HDD
Sata DVD-RW

1 out of 5 eggsBAD after a year

Pros: Worked Okay for the first year. Had some trouble but nothing too major.

Cons: Okay, this is an issue i really hate.
Bought 1/30/08.
ISSUE #1, computer hanging. It turns out this mobo is picky about PSU's. After buying a Roswell PSU, it turned out to be incompatible. Bought a Corsair PSU and it solved the problem. ASUS PLEASE LIST COMPATIBILITY ISSUES WITH PSU's. It took them 3 months to finally tell me that the PSU was causing the problem(probably made them compatible with an updated BIOS, I don't know nor do I care).
ISSUE #2: 1 and a half years of barely any use since this is my father's computer, it will not POST, no video(onboard or pci-e), no audio(onboard), fans keep spinning. CPU is fine, PCI-e videocard is fine, PSU is fine, HDD is fine. Problem is the Motherboard.
Issue #3, at the time i bought it, it costed me 115 dollars for a problematic motherboard that ASUS tech support told me it was my drivers/parts fault, which said were incompatible. HOWEVER, they never mentioned any hardware incompatibilities!

Other Thoughts: I'm sick and tired. I had an asus Mobo that lasted me 6yrs with good old P4HT through my high school and first years of college. In 2008, i bought this mobo and decided to make a nice gift for my dad's 65th birthday and what do you know?
I shouldve listened to the overwhelming bad reviews as to NOT get this mobo but i trusted ASUS. Now that it's out of warranty, i just have a $115 brick sitting in my father's computer room.
THANKS ALOT ASUS!

1 out of 5 eggsAsus China Operation

Pros: Asus is supposed to be a top of the line producer of motherboards. After this experience, there is doubt about their China operation and quality control.

Cons: I first received this motherboard late last year. It has been sent back to Asus three times for basically the same faults. Under Windows XP, the board will not shut itself down. The on-board LAN has been defective. On all instances they stated board fully tested and returned. We still have the same problems and faults.

Other Thoughts: I believe a change may be made.... soon?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for this inconvenience. Please double check the device manager and make sure all drivers are installed. 1 out of 5 eggsProblems

Pros: This item is a "Corporate Stable Model (CSM) for long-term availability" which is the reason I purchased it.

Cons: I purchased 3 of these and 1 was DOA, 1 has dead HDD controller, and the other seems to be working. I don't trust a motherboard if 2 out of 3 are defective.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We are sorry for this inconvenience. Please contact our Technical Support Department at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techserv.aspx and reference case number "NE444912" so that we may get more details about your system configuration and assist you in resolving these issues you are experiencing.

5 out of 5 eggsGood,Did What I Wanted

Pros: Prompt delivery.Installation went well, no surprises. BIOS functioning. This is a replacement for a Gateway Schroeder Town MOBO of great expecations but poor results. I don't overclock or do anything extrordinary. This seems to be a good solid board and I'm glad for the warranty and hope it lasts. These comments were a great help in deciding on a board, I recommend this board for anyone thinking about it.

Cons: There was a concern over the CPU heatsink but it was more of a Gateway issue. I had to reuse the bracket mount.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: GREAT BOARD, WITH RIGHT EQUIPMENT, FAST FOR IT'S PRICE.

Cons: FRONT USB DON'T WORK. REPLACED BOARD, SAME PROBLEM. TECH DEPT SAYS REPLACE USB CONNECTORS, WORKED BEFORE I REPLACED BOARD. BOUGHT AN EXTERNAL USB, PLUG IN BACK, OK @ THIS POINT. STILL LIKE THE BOARD.

Other Thoughts: CONSIDER THIS PROBLEM IF YOU PURCHASE THIS BOARD.

5 out of 5 eggsp5e-VM HDMI

Pros: Works like a charm. very solid feel W/R both soft & hadware. A fast and painless build!
the Intel 10/100/1000 lan seems like a valuable upgrade, even tho I don't really know what my ISP offers for speed.
It's nice to have a MOBO graphics unit where the cable just clicks in there! Did I say I hate VGA??
I got this Q35 because it would run my Cedar Mill 631 as well as having an upgrade path to 45 nM wolfdales. Also no $$ for vid cards. Hooray Asus!
Good space around Proc. for heatsinks-- think 110 by 110 mm. square footprint. You MUST have a good heatsink! You cannot have a heatpipe setup that needs go over the northbridge, tho. There is a good selection of two-bank-pipe sinks available-- I used the all copper BTF 90. S'very cool. VERY useful to have 4 memory slots. Some mem is fussier about voltage and the like if it's a 2 Gig stick-- 1 gig sticks run pretty well, as well as, in Mushkin, costing less.

Cons: 1 PCI slot? How do i use my rosewill wireless card?
There is ample Pcie howevr, and without a pcie-16 video card, you can actually get at them. Tuner cards everywhere?

Other Thoughts: Have not deciphered the OC abilities yet. The 631 single core was rather hot (89W) anyway. 631's have been overclocked to 30 gig BTW--not for me (!) I shoud be able to run the Mushkin Ram at 1000 to 1050 with ease, tho.
Most of this setup is good and silent. With a few Silen-x fans thrown around I should be able to get to around 10-15 dB, total!
That's good for a bargain basement build.

5 out of 5 eggsBest mATX mobo I've ever owned.

Pros: TPM TPM TPM! It's so hard to find a motherboard with a TPM, but this has it! Also it supports VPRO, so I should be able to remote reboot it if it freezes when I'm away and trying to remote desktop in. I just need to figure out how to set it up.

Cons: Lack of DVI-OUT, minimal volt control on RAM.

Other Thoughts: I bought some rated at 1333 but it wouldn't run at the speed, could be the ram but since I can't set the volts I blame the mobo... I own two of these, and will probably buy a few more! Bitlocker needs a TPM to run correctly and if your dealing with people who know how to operate a password reset disc then this is the only way to protect the machine, without a hired guard.

1 out of 5 eggsProblems at ASUS

Pros: This board should do everything a person would want in an "internet browsing" system... if it worked.

Cons: This board had nothing but problems: The ATA support has serious issues. Loading XP-sp 2.0 was a nightmare. I finally had to hook up a SATA CDROM just to get the operating system loaded... this just isn't right! After it was running (after a fashion) there was no end of trouble loading drivers. The CD provided was completely useless... everything had to be downloaded. And all this grief was encountered with a pretty basic system (E5200 processor and Kingston ValueRAM). And don't get me started about Mordac and the rest of the deniers at ASUS support(?). I took the board back to the retailer and got most of my money back (no, it wasn't Newegg... big mistake there).

Other Thoughts: Save yourself a rash of money and headaches... buy an Intel board from Newegg. For a faily basic board, this product should have far fewer headaches than it does. Judging by the other feedback, it seems that ASUS may be having a serious QC problem. I, for one, will never be their guinea pig again!
