5 out of 5 eggsMaximus Rampage

Pros: Its x38, you can leave it on auto and this smart board does the rest. If you overclock you need to knw what you are doing to achieve max performance and speed. After I broke it in it runs fine for me. It was a bear to tame this stallion but know she gallops like triple crown.

Cons: Seemed to have many memory issues. It is the enhanced controller if you know how to set up bios should have know problem. If you run stock DDR2 then board will respond fine.

Other Thoughts: Oh what am I running 8400 wolfdale 4.25ghz, FSB 500mhz, ddr2 1066 @ 1000, nuff said.

5 out of 5 eggsSweet

Pros: -lots of options (OC) & features...

Cons: -a nit-pick, but--I spent a day between e-mailing asus tech support and searching the 'net to find-out why the included 3DMark06 software was only the 'basic' version instead of the 'advanced edition' as described in the maximus manual and on the asus web-site, only to find-out that the registration key is included to upgrade to the advanced edition, but not readily identifiable as such...not such a bad 'Con' considering that's about all I've found so far, and if that's it................

Other Thoughts: -my first build...put everything together, fired it up and it booted the first time, every light, fan, etc., worked perfectly...good parts, great company (Newegg that is)...

4 out of 5 eggsSolid board with minor quirks...

Pros: Great board with lots of features common to ROG boards. Lots of fan headers, pretty good heatsink on the NB, onboard on/off/clear CMOS on back panel. BIOS is easy and great for overclocking for both beginners and veterans. Great aesthetics.

Cons: Intel's ICH9R southbridge supposedly has many problems with using the SATA in RAID mode... Right now, I have my SATA set as IDE, and until I install the Intel's workaround intermediate driver, I'll be stuck in IDE. Pretty much the computer BSODs during XP Pro OS install if I have the system set on SaTA:RAID. [Yes, I have the correct drivers in the floppy...]

The provided software Asus AI Suite isn't all that useful... Especially the Q-Fan feature, it's not nearly as good as uGuru by Abit. Q-Fan does not let you set custom settings, and you cannot change fan speeds in real time. It;s really simplistic and underpowered for such a good motherboard. Use speedfan instead.

Other Thoughts: Over all pretty good. But is it really worth the $240-260 price tag...? Personally I've used the Asus P5E, and the Abit IX38, all part of the Intel X38 family, and I can't notice any performance gap between these 3 boards in real world apps. Only difference is the Maximus looks cooler than the other and has some more minor features that the others don't. But actually, the Abit IX38 is also jammed full of features (but one batch of the IX38s has a MAJOR BIOS problem, where it gets stuck in post unless you reset a few dozen times, literally. So be careful, and be RMA happy...)

5 out of 5 eggsNow I understand :D

Pros: Solid, you can't ask for more than a great foundation to your computer. BIOS has so many options that you can get lost in the menus, lol. Okay well probably not but seriously, I've never seen so many options. My favorite part about this board is how it proved me wrong (see other thoughts).

Cons: Heatsinks almost were too big so I couldn't fit my Zalman heatsink on the proc... However, I did get it to fit :D.

Other Thoughts: I never quite understood the diff between higher end motherboard and just ones that had what you needed. Well there is a noticeable difference and it's worth the extra $$$ to get the higher end motherboards.

5 out of 5 eggsNot a reveiw, a comment

Pros: N/A

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: For the person underneath me, this is s X38 chipset. Currently all Intel Chipsets DO NOT SUPPORT SLI. You will waste your money if you have 2 9800GTX's and won't be able to use it as this board is a CrossFire only board.
